I've just got FC2 and am impressed with it so far, but I can see it getting frustrating. I love the fact that you don't get all the hints and highlights telling you were every bugger is but I can see that wearing thin. I'm playing on normal but I have turned the reticule on for a sneaky assist.
It does wear thin, and then you change your play style to suit each situation, then it gets good again.

The buddies too are brilliant, I had to euphanise Warren Clyde and Josip died from his injuries, I went mental when that happened.

Its odd, you start off disliking the buddies but after a few assists they become your best asset in game.

Its a good game it just takes a wild to get your feet wet. The game holds your hand, but you can eventually just jump off the main quest and do what you want

Like everyone says, stop the main quest, and just go exploring. Get your main gun skill up to 100 (not that hard to do) and it is a fun shooter. But if you are a pure FPS run and gun player, fallout 3 is not for you. A side not, I dispised FC2, and Fo3 was a much better game IMO. Just go out, explore, do some side quests, that is where Fo3 shines.

you have to play it at your own pace, the game starts when you realise you dont need to follow the story and you go out exploring. then it shows how amazing a free roam game can be. also i hate far cry 2 aswell >.>
oh right, good, it just feels like im getting funneled here there and everywhere still, not liking it one bit.

I like gunplay, so Far Cry 2 is one of the greatest games i've come across, the gunplay is outstanding. Fallout 3 on the other hand, the gun play is piss poor.
I like Far Cry's gun play, but the enemies can see to damn far. Like I'll be getting pistoled by a guy whos down from 3 miles away.

But once I figured out that I could do that to I guess I was pretty happy.

Actually, I had a nice time playing Far Cry 2, apart from the part where all my guns keep falling apart in my hands. Goddamnit, I'm not the Incredible Hulk!
And yes, Fallout 3 isn't that good. You should play Age of Empires 2 instead.
you tell tell if they are about to fall apart by the amount of rust on them.

i do have a major issue with that in Far Cry 2, why is it that the guns never jam on my enemies, and the malaria strop outs happen at the worst moments, like when your being a sneaky bastard about to rip someone a new one and bang! MALARIA BOUT!
Yes, that's why AoE is better. You never get malaria ther, now do you?

Ok, maybe I should stop fanboyism.

Hmmm Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3... imagine one with the other's shooting mechanics... that would be fun.

Far Cry 2 lost my interest after around 3 hours of shooting guys at roadblocks. Tedium.

I think you might be having the same problem I was...expecting awesome loot everywhere.
That really killed Fallout for me, until I started to enjoy actually playing it.

Oh, and what do you have it for?

I felt the same way, just keep playing. If you want to get wraped up in the game, do some quests and try to be good for the first play through: it makes it more fun at first, n then when you get to be evil next time, the experience is all the sweeter...*Laughs Maniacally*

Get it on PC and use cheats to enhance your experience. Don't use too many, though.
I never use cheats, and i'm kinda stuck with my console copy.
tcl is a godsend when your character inevitably gets stuck on something.

I have it because I was told it was good, Deus Ex like, but it isn't, too much reliance on VATS and without it your fucking useless.

Yeah the road blocks are a major stumbling block, I just drive around them, cos i'm clever and shit.

What I meant was, what platform do you have it for?

No the gun play is not amazing in Fallout 3, its sub standard, I'm not gonna let it slide just because its Bethesda's first shooty game. Its very very bad.
I think you're expecting a bit much from the combat mechanic for a Role-Playing Game. I'll be the first to say that it's not a great FPS, but then again it's not an FPS. It's kinda like complaining that Starcraft is a bad RPG...

Watch for how skill levels affect the combat; in VATS it affects your accuracy, in free-fire it affects damage. Higher is better... so if you want to do a lot of shooting, focus your skill advancement on the weapon skills you're using most. Keep an eye out for shooting-related perks, too.

Can I launch the fatman inside? i'm stuck on some raiders, stupid pricks.
Yes, you can... I nuked me some Raiders in the Capitol Building. Good times... just make certain you're at minimum safe distance, though, and be careful not to hit any obstacles nearby such as the door frame. (Yes, I nuked myself by clipping an archway just in front of me once.)

I was into the game the moment I started, I think it does a brilliant job at immersion. But my friend says he can't get into it. I think it's just different for different people.

So people, I've got myself Fallout 3 and so far i'm not having a good time with it....

DC feels like a tutorial in become accustomed to getting bored alot and throwing away all your stuff because your too fat and can't run.

Does it get better?.

Bother this nonsense, I'm putting Far Cry 2 on, that game is the nuts.... gun porn *starts dribbling*
You have to level up your small guns skill if you want to play it as a shooter.

I also recommend wandering away from the main quest. It's the little random crazy things that make the game.

Did you get one of the safehouses yet (Megaton or Tenpenny Tower)? You can use that place or another spot you choose to store all your extra stuff you want to keep but not carry around all the time.
