Oblivion's opening is long and tedious.
Fallout 3's opening is new and inventive!
Oblivion let's you explore the world after the end of the main quest.
Fallout 3 kills you.
Oblivion has quite a few awesome weapons and cool spells.
Fallout 3 has guns, which I think everyone has seen just about enough of in recent times.
Oblivion has factions.
Fallout 3 has factions, but you're not allowed to join.
Oblivion was original.
Fallout 3 was a new paint job.

I say Oblivion was better.

Is it just me that prefered Fallout 3 MUCH more then Oblivion? I mean Yahtzee got it right when he said Fallout is basically Oblivion with a new wallpaper, but Fallout's world is just more captivating and entrancing (although it's certainly not as pretty to look at as Oblivion).

So anyway I guess Im just asking if Im not alone when I say that I didn't like Oblivion, but loved Fallout 3.
Fallout 3 was great, if you don't play the DLC Add-ons.
Oblivion was just so disappointing and i really don't know how it acquired such rave reviews....

Hmmm. That's a tough choice for me. Fallout had the badass setting and VATS.. but Oblivion had the guilds and magic. I'm gonna say Oblivion, just cause I felt you had more options.

Whats up with all the Fallout 3 and Oblivion threads recently?

Oh, and OT, I enjoyed Oblivion much more than FO3.

i was just asking myself that. guess this forum works in cycles.

anyway, oblivion is fantastic. i havent even finished the main story because i've been too busy completing all the other stories. it's inventive and bethesda's magnum opus, i think. (i'm happy to be proved wrong, something even better than oblivion would be awesome!)

that said, fallout 3 is fantastic also. though not as long lasting or as immersive as TES:IV, it was a great game, albeit not as long as i'd like.

so i think they almost tie, with oblivion just a fraction in front of fallout3..

Similar but not the same. I actually did enjoy Fallout 3 more than Oblivion, if only because I could dick around as much as I wanted and no one could really put a stop to me (and no one had damn healing spells). Oblivion just felt emptier.

I wish people would stop saying that Fallout was Oblivion with guns/a new paint job. They are similar in some respects but there are also a lot of other differences. I enjoyed both games but I liked Fallout more because I felt that both conversations and combat were far better in Fallout.

Yes, Fallout 3 was way better than Oblivion. Especially the setting, the fantasy forests of Cyrodiil got boring really fast, while the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Fallout 3 is still keeping me interested.

Morrowind FTW.

I need to install it again. That's still probably my favorite game.

i found obolvion to be better, in many ways more than others, i would say fallout, but then id be lying, the subway ruined it, and i hate how you guys say fallout is more emersive, all the characters in oblivion have names (unlike how in fallot some might just be called megaton settlers or roving trader, this excludes enemies of course, we dont need to know their names as much.) theres more weapons, you dont have to level to better yourself in your skills (which is amazing.) and the whole experience just seemed better than fallout to me. (i also hate post apocolyptic wastelands, we have too many.)

Its a toughie really...I traditionally love the fantasy genre much more than sci-fi, but FO3 made me actually start gaming on a regular basis again, and since I played Oblivion afterwards it seemed like FO3 without VATS. The games differ massively in scale too..oblivion s main story ends with you saving an entire world from a gigantic demon, whereas fallout ends with you making a clean water supply. i guess I prefer FO3, since it brought me back into the fold i'd wanted to rejoin for years but couldn't since all I owned was a wii.

It is tough, but I went with Fallout 3. And for one main reason, well three...voices were a lot better in Fallout 3. I thought the world had more variety in it than Oblivion's dungeons that were clones of each other.

And the biggest reason which is the deal breaker for me, and this is important for me in any game...Oblivion's character models SUCKED. When I first played Oblivion, I was fine with them...but after playing Fallout 3, I can't make a single Oblivion character that I like. Tried both males and females (which females looked pretty much like males in Oblivion, in the face features anyway). Maybe someone will have a different opinion on this, but this is just how I feel about it. I hope the next elder scrolls game uses the same character model(s) as Fallout 3.

Fallout sucked really bad. First 3-4 times I played it I got stuck on the Satelite Dish mission without any ammo. Oblivion is fun to pass multiple times (unless you fast travel everywhere and play on the easiest difficulty or cheat/mod if youre playing on the PC) and you can fully customize your character AND make his/her class which changes the way you play the game almost completely.

BTW, WHO THE HELL IS THE GUY INSIDE THE PURIFIER AT THE END OF THE GAME?
