I prfer fallout 3 only slightly to oblivion cos of it's better voice acting and, while it doesn't quite play as easily in combat as say half life 2, really nice gun play.

Its a toughie really...I traditionally love the fantasy genre much more than sci-fi, but FO3 made me actually start gaming on a regular basis again, and since I played Oblivion afterwards it seemed like FO3 without VATS. The games differ massively in scale too..oblivion s main story ends with you saving an entire world from a gigantic demon, whereas fallout ends with you making a clean water supply. i guess I prefer FO3, since it brought me back into the fold i'd wanted to rejoin for years but couldn't since all I owned was a wii.
I guess you were an archer in Oblivion? Sucks that you had a Wii btw, especially with Project Natal and everything. I own a Wii and it was a waste of money (I bought mine for $500 cuz it was sold out everywhere, then I bought my Xbox360 Elite for $400 and it was A LOT better (holiday discounts))

I really hope you mean you made your own class, the only class worth picking from the pre-mades is Mage. Heres a couple hints on making a good Spellsword:

Use On-touch spells, once you get enough level mix in effects like "Paralyze on touch"
Pick Luck and Endurance as your specials.
Use claymores and other two-handed weapons, shields restrict magicka.
Use these skills:
-Blade
-Block
-Light Armor
-Destruction
--Restoration
--Conjuration
--Illusion

You can change the last 3, those are only recomendations from me...

Fallout 3 and Oblivion are identical. F3 just has the added use of "fuck" and "shit", half-assed FPS elements with broken weapons and a seizure-inducing inventory screen.

Oh, both Oblivion and Fallout are absolutely fantastic, each in its own way. I would often stop next to a lake in Oblivion and just watch the sunrise or the sunset sitting on a horse, because it was so incredibly beautiful, and so well framed by the brilliant, brilliant soundtrack.

Fallout's soundtrack isn't as absolutely awesome as Oblivion's, except for the very adequade licensed music, but it also has this kind of beauty that only Bethesda seems to know how to accomplish. I found myself often waiting for the sunrise or for the sunset in the wasteland, just so that I could walk away or in the direction of the sun, like in a movie. It's just so COOL.

They are both beautiful games, with different kinds of beauty, but what really matters in the end is how ridiculously well Bethesda handles immersion.

Well, both games were very good in their own ways, but I never really felt immersedö, it was as if I almost saw the strings holding up the characters. They were both more good than bad for me though

I prefered Oblivion, I could never get into FO3. What I really want though is this:
Morrowind, with the combat of Oblivion ('cause let's face it, the combat in Morrowind was crap), an experience leveling system (I hate the skill training system with a vengeance) and modern graphics. That would be awesome.

Well, I vote Morrowind.
This.
You can't just say that! Add something relevant, quick!
Right. Um... Err... Okay.

Both Oblivion and Fallout 3 have the "wannabe epic" syndrome. They both present big things that go boom, Akatosh and Liberty prime, for example, but the whole "epicness" is let down by the engine making goofy mistakes and jerky animations throughout the game. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both games tremedously and spent hundreds of hours palying. I still do.

But Morrowind is altogether more atmospheric, immersive, a whole lotta less generic and by far the most interesting. The designers didn't even try giants or dragons and the highlights of the brilliant story are not let down by the game engine. Instead of explosions and epic battles you were lured in with the chance to explore a whole new kind of unusual fantasy world.

All 3 have the excellent ace: modders and super easy modifyability. Bethesda knew this and with Oblivion I somehow got the feeling that they left some bugs and flaws to be fixed by the modders. Perhaps Bethesda was lazy that day? Some could, however, state this as customer service: play the vanilla game if you are boring, but more active gamers can shape the game to fit their prefrences exactly. In any case, I enjoyed Morrowind the most. Whereas Oblivion and Fallout 3, at times, were ludicrously easy, Morrowind was always more challenging and in the end, much more rewarding.

I hope that's relevant enough.

120 hours in fallout so far.
20 hours oblivion forever(thats only because i did'nt have anything else to play).

combat in fallout was pretty fun(vats was cool too).
oblivion combat felt like watching 5 year olds play fight with sticks.

fallout is a possible future(not likely but possible).
oblivion is about about some odd species like a fish with magical powers.

the weapon's in fallout are (for the most part) realistic.
the weapon's in oblivion are real (from what i've saw).

fallout is imersive and interest to explore.
oblivion is unimersive and a god-send they gave you horses even if they are controlled like a piggyback ride from a cripple

I like both games. Either one will give a great gaming experience. Since they are both made by the same gaming company, you don't really need to say which is really better (Remember, Oblivion was made a few years before Fallout 3). At least Bethesda Softworks learned from the slight mistakes it made in Oblivion and corrected them in Fallout 3.

I say you should try both and try to be careful about playing them because youll eventually come out and find yourself in a different part of the day and in all admittance Fallout 3 possibly has more people flocking to it due to the setting and content which btw keeps growing when you add on the DLC. With all that said dont just play Fallout 3 play Oblivion too and have fun killing people with something other than blunt to sharp objects and/or bullets.

okay, there is a thread exacly like this that my friend made, but I dont want to go throught the trouble finding. But no, i thought Fallout 3 sucked, the fact that the raiders had X-Ray vision from a mile away didnt help, it looked like one big shit stain, and it just didnt have as much creativivty as Oblivion.

Now while Oblivion did suffer from the X-Ray vision, the enemies had to get close to you to hurt you, so I would just snipe them off with my Bow. It was also pretty to look at, I really dont understand why dog shit brown is fun to look at, i just see it as... well... dog shit brown. Also I ran out of ammo so damn fast in fallout and I couldnt pick it back up like arrows. Over all I thought Oblivion was far better.

Fallout reminds me of a mixture between Oblivion and Bioshock.
That's a really good way of putting that.

As for me, I do love Fallout 3, I also love Oblivion. It seems that they both fill each other's weaknesses though. For example, In fallout your enemies do not level up with you. Relevant? Yes, having enemies that become super bad the moment you do makes becoming the invinvincible hero of the land an empty victory as you find that you, despite having hit the level cap and having the best of everything, can still only knick the enemy that stands before you, and there are 4 more on there way, together. Fallout 3 lets you reap the rewards of your leveling in the form of your enemy's fingers/ears, as in an entire legion of Raiders and slavers falls to your Tesla armoured plasma rain. Oblivion may lack the same level of random encounters in the wilderness, but there are more dungeons which allows for you to do more in the end, and you can keep going instead of being killed because you were hemmed into the main quest. At least you can keep going afterwards without having to pay for it. Also, the repair system is a pain in the ass because if you are using say, Tesla Armour it's almost impossible outside of random encounters or the main quest to repair your shit.

I'd say Oblivion is just SLIGHTLY better.
