This might make up for the disappointment I felt with Fallout 3. Don't get me wrong,
I thought it was amazing, but it wasn't the Fallout I knew and loved. (/End Nostalgia).
If this is more based off the originals, then I might just fall in radioactive love all over again.

I hope that just for nostalgia's sake...

Harold's not dead... :(
Whether he's canonically dead or alive, he's kind of, umm...put down some roots in the Capital Wasteland. Not gonna see him out West!
Well...
He could be transplanted, couldn't he? I could see some swanky casino boss buying him and having him brought over on a lark.

I think they'll find a way to put him in there. And I hope it's an amusing way!

Man I can't wait for F:NV. Sadly, I never played the first 2 games since they came out before I was really into that sort of thing. I might get F2 but I find it strenuous to play old games in this day and age. However, it does look worthy. Anyway, I'm really excited for a new Fallout game. A new setting is great, the Capitol Wasteland was fun but man after a couple playthroughs it's hard to enjoy the desolation anymore.

It's too bad they're using the same engine. I don't think it's all that bad, I suppose, but it could be way better. I just really, really hope they push it to it's limits. Higher resolution textures, maybe some improved physics, larger draw distances, and a LOT more "scenery elements" to make it come to life. If they can crank it up to give high end machines a good time trying to run it, I'll be happy.

You obviously have no interest or knowledge in the history of the series
I never actually finished 1, and can barely remember 2.
Clever.

nd if you pay the slightest bit of attention to the story, the factions in the west are different from the ones in the east, so while it may look similar, the enemies, allies, and locations will be different.
Of course locations will be different. It's a new area. You saw any giant alien motherships in vanilla Fallout 3?
I have no idea how New Vegas Raiders, Deathclaws and Orcs - sorry, Super Mutants - will be different from Fallout 3 Raiders, Deathclaws and Orcs. Maybe they'll be slightly taller?

Plus Fallout 3 is still my most frequently played single-player game
Sorry to hear that.
If you have no interest in what is quite clearly a fantastic game then fuck off you pathetic little turd.
Just because he has a different opinion than you on what is a good game doesn't mean you should insult him. Yes, it seems like he is trying to incite flame-wars but there is no need for you to risk a suspension or ban just because you don't like what he is saying.

Wow, nice flame war guys. Kewl.

Anyway, on the topic...

I want this game to be good.
I really do.

But I find it hard to be optimistic when...

Here's Walter for comparison reasons:

So yeah kinda hard to stay optimistic, when one of the very first screens they showed turns out to be a blatant recycling of one of Megaton's denizens.

I hope they bring the Hubologists back. They could be at war with a mask wearing faction that calls itself "The Strangers".

I know. Only Nintendo is allowed to blatantly reuse old character models in sequels.

Well, if the game does well, I'd like to think it'd revive interest in the first two.
Actually, I think it'd be fair to say that FO3 already managed to do that, considering the Fallout Trilogy pack (FO1, 2, and Tactics) got onto the best-seller list for a month or two about a year back.
I did not know this. Interesting, do you think it could happen again then? Or probably not?

meh, if they'd let you become a porn star, or get married (to escape lynching by the farmer's family and then have the option to sell the wife to slavers :)) or shoot people in the balls...

doesn't anybody miss the "old" humor?

Fallout 2 on the Gamebryo engine would be so far beyond awesome as to boggle the mind. I could never get into old-style dice-roll-based 2D PC RPGs, but once games like Morrowind started to revolutionize the form...

Yeah dude, I completely agree about the ancient technology of gamebryo or infinity, but don't you think they used to create much better games with it?

What's stopping them to create the same feeling with tes construction set or geck or whatever current gen engine they're using?

What's the engine gotta do with the removal of the "groin" and "eyes" targets from vats? I think it's the devs trying to avoid sensitives subjects....

They'll likely try to avoid mentioning Vault City at all. The NCR will be mentioned, but who is part of it will probably be skimmed over.

However, I think that this is ridiculous and limiting on future games. Sure, it'll upset old fans, but newcomers will enjoy it more.

I want feral ghouls removed. The point of the ghouls in 1 and 2 was that they just looked different and everyone discriminated against them purely out of racism. The feral ghouls were the one think I couldn't forgive in Fallout 3. Saying that, I still liked the game a huge amount and will probably pre-order New Vegas (I never pre-order).

It'd be interesting if they asked people to vote the outcome they want to make official...

I mean there were 6 endings to FO2, if memory serves, and they were basically a mix of decisions like "VC joins the NCR", "Gecko rebuilds VC", etc etc. Some endings sound like "X city disappeared because of drought/raiders/ghouls/radiation", each situation being triggered by a quest outcome usually.

Or they could go cheap & easy and avoid the subject or have them all destroyed years ago in freak accidents :)

Feral ghouls might as well be racist ghouls going berserk... or something like that :D

And here was me thinking we were discussing a new game, New Vegas, set somewhere else with no connection to Fallout 3 beyond the same setting. Shows how much I know.
Setting, engine and system. Indeed, it shows.
And a completely different developer. After seeing how Obsidian took the reins of KotOR2 and brought out one of the most memorable villains in gaming I've ever seen, I'm fairly certain they can do something great with New Vegas.
I don't wan't to de-rail the topic at hand (woo new fallout game) but did I play a different version of KotOR2 then everyone eles? I'm always hearing praise for the plot and Kreia in particular (assuming thats who you ment by villain, not one of the other sith lords), when I found the plot mediocore and underwhelming, and Kreia to be one of the most unlikeable, annoying bi**hes with a huge and unwarrented senes of self-importance that I ever had the misfortune of having to interact with. seriously, all she ever did was complain about anything and everything you did. I have to say, when you get to kill her at the end I didn't hesitate for a second.
/rant (again, sorry for detour in topic, had to get that off my chest).
