I didn't like Fallout 1 because I didn't care for the style of game, but I loved Fallout 3. Seeing as I will get the atmosphere of Fallout 3 with the writers of Fallout 1, so it should work really well.

I'm getting the special edition because I got the special edition of Fallout 3 and watching gameplay videos and previews for it reminds me of the hype I felt for Fallout 3 when it was coming out. It seems like they're really going to make this project work.

I will wait and hope something decent comes from this uncertainty.

It's based on Bethesda's disgracefully bad programming; so naturally it's going to crash every 20 minutes.
Nevermind Fallout 3; the game that finally ruined gaming for me.

I'm interested in New Vegas insofar as to seeing how a different team handles story, plot and gameplay than Bethesda.

Eh. It might be good, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

After how buggy and unfinished KOTOR II was, along with the fact that F3 was already pretty buggy doesn't ring well with me.

Well I think it's being developed in a partnership between Bethesda and Obsidian so I don't think there's cause for concern in that respect. And from what I've seen it looks like they're going take the mechanics of Fallout 3 to a new setting that should be more colourful and unlike what we've seen before, add various other mechanics such as gambling, the group wheel, ironsight aiming, weapon upgrades, enormous weapons (Things like the solar sky laser), armour variation in enemies requiring different kinds of weaponry, faction reputations and potentially vehicles and ensure it has more ties to the mythos of the first two. Personally I think this will work out great as I felt that while the first two fallouts were pretty awesome in terms of theme, plot devices and universal elements the gameplay and role-playing balance was fairly mediocre, but while Fallout 3 had excellent mechanics as well as gameplay and role-playing elements its story and ties to the original games were fairly mediocre.

So on paper it looks like it should be a cracker of a game, but as Yahtzee said paper is a fickle thing that goes see-through when you rub grease on it.

To be perfectly honest I loved Fallout 3, I'm even still playing it and I hope to pre-order New Vegas as I jizz myself every time I watch the gameplay trailer.

Granted, it's Obsidian and it may be filled with more bugs than in a forest, but that doesn't really to me. Bugs and glitches can be fixed.
...Though they rarely are.
It's a pretty well-established fact: The bigger the game world, the more the bugs.
And the bigger the game world, the less likely the dev's will ever get around to finding each and every one of them and patching them over.

And it's a huge disappointment that for a sequel returning to its origins, they decided to go along with the ugly, barely functional FO3 Engine...

What I've seen so far is Fallout aims to deliver a great post-apocalyptic RPG experience, and it manages that. But it always lacks POLISH...that extra little layer of icing that makes everything seamless and unforgettable. Character animations are stiff and jerky, voice actors are heavily overused over 100+ characters, textures are often bland and ugly, and the overall environment looks like something generated from a last-generation game.

I wish they'd put just some effort into working on the little, superficial things that make the game so much more believable.
Improved follower interaction, ironsights, and the fame/karma system are all great additions to the base, but some prettying up wouldn't hurt either.

I'd say get it on PC (if all you have is console, I'm sorry!), and expect the mods to fix everything.

Again!

-_-

Although this time they got their work cut out for them since it's an Obsidian game we're talking about here...=0

We've seen what, about 3 minutes of gameplay? I think it's safe to say NONE of us know what the game is going to be like AT ALL besides that it's styled after FO3.

To say one way or the other how I think this game will turn out would mean I am pulling a hypothesis out of my ass.

Now, can we stop making the same threads about game we know very little about? Pretty please?

For all those saying that it looks like Fallout 3, yes, it does, but what you don't see in gameplay trailers is the improved writing, dialogue, setting and feel from F03 that will hopefully be included.
This, and having just replayed Fallout 1 & 2, I had forgotten how Fallout 2 was pretty much exactly Fallout 1, only with a new story. And I enjoyed both. So looking the same isn't an issue for me. :)

OT: I think it will be a fine game. Vegas is a great setting for the Fallout universe, and from everything I've seen so far, it looks great to me.

As far as the comments regarding Obsidian being at the helm and Bethesda not caring about their product so it will be lousy, I think that's reading a bit much into the agreement between the two companies. I could just as easily say Bethesda was trying to woo over fans of the original (which wasn't necessary because Fallout 3 was a success without all the naysayers) and had their hand very much in the creation of Fallout New Vegas.

There really isn't an evidence to support these kinds of statements. Saying them over and over again won't make your point any more valid.

Oh god, this is going to be one of those "FO3 sux" threads. Fantastic. As if we don't already have enough of those.

On topic: I don't trust Obsidian, but I love Bethesda. Hard call.

Now, I never said Fo3 sucks, it doesn't. I loved the game, and would say so otherwise. But it's a different Animal than the first two, and I felt the writing could have done better. I didn't think about the outrageous glitches, because, in all honesty, I'm pretty happy with my time with FO3 Glitch-Wise. It was a ambitious game that paid off. I am hopeful for at minimum more of the same, and crossing my fingers for brilliance.

I'm cautiously optimisic. Besides the fact that I tend to be optimistic in general, I've only played one Obsidian game before... KOTOR 2. As far as I'm concerned, though, the only reason that game did poorly was because Lucasarts rushed it out and we got an incomplete game.
