Umm...why did the player have a pipboy? Was the character a vault dweller(I dont believe so)? If not, that seems kinda lazy not to invent a new inventory/map/status screen. Little things like that break games for me.

Hopefully the story explains it.
I believe your character is from a vault, some screenshots showed him wearing a vault outfit.
Nope, he is not. You can find the suit however.
What? I thought that was the whole point behind the Fallout series, that in every iteration the player character is meant to be a Vault Dweller.
The main character of Fallout 2 isn't a Vault Dweller at all.

I warn everyone to seriously lower their expectations - at least then you can be pleasantly surprised instead of crushingly disappointed.
This is true but apparently when their games suck, it's because of the producers or so they say about Alpha Protocol.

All that sounds lovely, but I'm willing to bet all my vital organs that stuff will still fall through tables and shake everything around them when you pick stuff up

AAARRGGHHH

Sorry, that was me having a strong orgasm.

Ahem.

I'm a little excited about this game.
But have you pre-ordered it yet?
Silly person, you don't pre-order an orgasm, you just have them when you need/want(?) them. But seriously, I'll pre-order mine when I have the cash.

somewhere I read that he/she is from a vault, but you have been outside for a long time before the game starts. could be wrong, but I think I read that on some post.
According to what I've read you will have differant origin stories sort of like in "Dragon Age: Origins". One of the examples being that you can play as a ghoul as opposed to a human, the backround being that you were a Chinese spy who was in the US when the bombs hit, and got mutated, so you've lived on since the great war. This information is here:

http://www.gametrailers.com/news/fallout-new-vegas-details/1712

I believe it was verified after the fact.

As I understand it, the shared character backround is that your a courier who was ambushed, robbed of what he was supposed to be delivering, and left for dead at some point. that is where the game picks up. You have a seperate backround about who your character was before this job, all of which amount to you being some kind of mercenary who would do that kind of work.

While I can't find a link, I believe that being from a Vault is one of the options among many. However I'd imagine you still have to find the suit since what I've seen so far implies that when you recover you have only what the doctor gives you.

Apparently, the backrounds also give you character specific advantages. For example the ghoul backround allows you to fire radiation blasts apparently... though I haven't seen anything with that in action. If that's true, I imagine the other backrounds have similarly interesting perks attached to them.

...on the Bethesda engine though.
Alpha Protocol uses Unreal Engine 3.

I've been in your position, I was full of hope and amazement, the second game was coming! Sure, it wasn't by Bioware, but what did that matter? Obsidian had done RPGs before, right?

Wrong.

What was delivered to my door (actually I bought it in the shop, but whatever) was a game unfinished, broken, worse-looking than the first, sloppy, and heartbreaking to play. Why heartbreaking you ask? Because I wanted it to be good - I NEEDED it to be good, but it was merely OK. And the ending, dear God the ending...

To this day, that game has not been fixed, to this day I try and forget that game happened.

And that game?

That game was KotOR 2.
And whats even more soul-crushing is that KotOR 2 could have actually been better than what Bioware did.

Seriously, I look at all the potential that was in that game and I want to cry.
I'm with you on this one. I'm hoping it will be great, but I'm preparing for it to suck.

After all, this is Obsidian, notorious for releasing games that are bugged to hell. And this is on Bethesda's engine, which is notorious for being buggy as hell. Things do not look good. If Alpha Protocol was better I would have hope, but so far... not so much.

I was gonna say "Oh look, more brown desert landscapes" but then i realized that a nuclear war just happened and all signs of plant life is dead. So I take that back.

I thought the man-with-no-name blamed one of the lead designers on the developer team?

I hate to break it to you, but KotOR 2's failure was not Obsidian's fault. Just a small amount of research into the matter shows that the reason for KotOR 2's terrible ending and general broken and unfinished-ness lies in LucasArts asking, nay, demanding a holiday release for the game at the expense of Obsidian not releasing the awesome game they planned and gamers not playing the awesome game Obsidian had planned.

And I implore you to play KotOR 2 again with the Restoration mod. [http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/TSL_Restored_Content_Mod;111657] I know a restoration mod only restores content and not faith in Obsidian, but trust me. It's a whole new game and the one that should have been released from the start.

This unknown person blamed Chris Parker who is apparently a Producer... I thought he was a Lead Designer. Turns out he's always been a Producer, even from the days of Baldur's Gate.

No, you're all wrong. Your character is a courier who was shot in the head and left to die. A friendly robot finds you and takes you back to a Doctor who fixes you up. This is where you choose your looks and skills. He gives you a pipboy and an old vault suit since the doctor used to be a vault dweller. This is all been CONFIRMED.

Looks quite similar to Fallout 3, and I loved that game, so I'm looking forward to this.
