Even at level 30 they are a serious threat your best bet its to level up and avoid deathclaw areas for the time being.

Armor Piercing rounds, You don't have a problem. Just make sure you got a solid position and it's a piece of cake.

I made my way through the quarry with quite a few deathclaws coming after me. Since then I've decided to rename my Ratslayer to the Alphaslayer. I killed an Alpha Deathclaw with it.
Didn't hurt to have Veronica's powerfist either. Just be patient and cripple it. And NEVER take on more than one at a time.

Though it has freaked me out at times. Stealthing, when suddenly DYNAMIC KILLCAM appears and your screen is filled with a scorpion or whatever.

I was walking around asskicking with awesome weapons, murdering little Deathclaw babies and blowing scorpions to bits..
Then I met one deathclaw.
One hit, one hit was enough for it to kill me!
Preposterous.
I ran like hell away from them since then, and it is exactly what I offer you!

Try the E-Culid Finder (I think that's how it's spelt). Buy - or steal - it from the child Max in Freeside, he's running around near Mick and Ralph's, you can buy the gun for 1000 caps or 20 if you have a barter of 40 or more. Then start the Lucky Old Sun quest to get the ammo. It's an orbital laser so it should do the job or hurt enough so you can survive easier.

If you have guns skill, go get yourself a sniper rifle, or a hunting rifle and scope it if the sniper rifle isn't unlocked. Then take them out at range. You could get repeated headshots to take them out like me, or you could not be an idiot and intelligently snipe their legs.

Playing very hard / hardcore, I headed all the way north from Goodsprings (though I did some sneaking around to get the Gauss Rifle) at about level 4. Deathclaws are easy compared to cazadors. How to win vs Deathclaw, scoped gun + Sneak + Psyco + Slasher + Stealth Boy. Cleared out whole quarry in about 3 minutes, at level erm, 6-8.

I dont understand any of this. There isnt a single creature in FNV that I cant kill with a single shot to the head, only changing the weapon as necessary. Then again, I dont play RPGs as if they were FPSs no matter how much they might look like one, and dont go around running and gunning. I crouch, I sneak, and I headshot with VATS.

But I only play games on normal, so maybe thats the difference.

Deathclaws are the strogrest enimes in the game there tough to kil even at high levels but not not impossible. My adivice get dead money and get yourself a holorifel then youll find yourself having a much easier time takeing them on. However if you must kill a deathclaw right noe wih current weapons level and equiment.

Edit: You have 3 mines AND Boone? Then it's not even a challenge. Drop the mines to cripple his legs, then just let Boone do the rest.[/quote}

I recomend this

Be a man..like me!

I'm punching deathclaws to death with the ballistic fist :D

OT: As mentioned above..You have Boone, what can possibly go wrong?
His sniper dmg is beast, especially if he crits aswell. And since there's only 1 deathclaw there, atleast that's what I'm guessing, just let Boone be aggressive and finish the bastard in sneak.

So I was tearing up the Mojave, killing Legion and Nightkin and generally being a badass for this opening portion of the game. I'm about level 11 right now with a lot of points in Guns, Science, and Speech. The rest of my skills are around 25 points each. I'm currently carrying Lucky (a very decently powerful Revolver), That Gun (an even more powerful pistol that shoots rifle rounds), a Caravan Shotgun loaded with Solid Slug ammunition, and a grenade rifle. I'm also packing 3 frag grenades and mines each. Finally, I have Boone with me.

Anyway, I've been getting through the game pretty well so far this time. This is probably my first runthrough using Guns and explosives rather than Energy weapons. Of course, as I'm leaving Camp Forlorn Hope, I seem to have run into one very angry Deathclaw. I've been killing the young Deathclaws by the dozen but this Adult is the first creature to kill me in this run.

So, who has ideas as to how to kill this thing? I tried crippling its legs with the slug rounds from my shotgun in VATS, but that ended with me as a pile of disconnected limbs.

I'd say, tell Boone to wait on top of a rock (can you do that, IDK, it's been a while since I've used a Companion). Place the mines between him and the deathclaw in a cluster. Make sure the DC doesn't know you are there. Run towards it and when you think you can fire a grenade launcher shot off at it. Start running back towards boone and fire continually with the GL. Hopefully once you reach Boone you should aim at the cluster of mines, blow them up and swap to the shotgun allowing you to assisst Boone in finishing it off. That's what I'd do, but it is by no means water-tight.

Fuck it, never mind. I went onto the thread before you updated the OP then posted after. I'd do the same again, but then save and run back into Forlorn Hope - there's a fuckload of five-fifty-six just waiting to introduce itself to a creature in there. That should get the second one, and if you're lucky then you'll get lots of 5.56 and service rifles you can sell off.

Profit!

Get a Hunting Rifle, put a scope on it, sneak, spot a Deathclaw in the distance, aim, shoot, and keep shooting until it's dead. And only fight one of them at a time. You can also lay mines in front of you before you start shooting, so that when it comes towards you, it runs over the mines.
This is exactly what I was going to say. That combination of equipment is not challenging to get. Only problem is burning through ammo reserves but that is only a real problem in the deathclaw sanctuary. Make it easier with Boone and if you can manage it use the enemy's pathfinding to your advantage. For example find a highish rock on a hill, stand on it and keep shooting til the deathclaw is on you, jump off rock so pathfinding makes it run around the rock and during that time keep taking shots as around the rock while using the curve to protect from the deathclaw jump. It won't save you forever but with luck you can whittle it down.

I'd reccomend an Cowboy repeater,LMG,AMR,This Machine, minigun And I highly Reccomend the Big Boomer(old lady gibson has it)

but the Euclid's C-Finder will get the job done.

If nothing works then use an silenced famas with Ninja pro, ghost pro and warlord pro,and flashbangs or frags,by now he'll already ragequit....

Ditto this. Even with full skill points (console commands how I love thee) and a full condition Anti-Material Rifle Deathclaws can sometimes survive a sneak attack critical bullet to the head. In F3 they were pretty easy to kill after level 10ish depending on what gun you had but New Vegas beasties are hard!

The easiest way to kill deathclaws at that level is to get a sniper rifle. There is a "free one" that needs repair at the bloody NCR camp outside of new vegas, and a couple of other ones around (you can always repair cheaply with repair kits). Then either pop a stealth boy or crouch sneak at a long, long range. (Deathclaws have AMAZING perception).

Then, don't use VATS, and just aim for the head...BLAM BLAM BLAM. You can snipe a hell of a lot more accurately and from a longer distance away if you just free aim it. Try it out.

Congratulations Vern. That was good planning, and works better than my "panic and quicksave/quickload" strategy I usually use.
