I went into the querry where the mother and the farther deathclaw where + 8 regular death claw and a horde of baby deathclaw, and I killed all of them (this is lvl 20 I think, or below), All I used was a modified hunting rifle with a scope and boone, plus a hell load of stimpaks. A very bloody place.

While all of the other suggestions are good, I say use bean bags. I was using a melee character at level 1 or 2 and took out a death claw with a critical hit using boxing tape, then finished it off by punching it passed out on the ground for the next 20 minutes. Beanbags do a lot more damage than that to fatigue as far as I can tell.

A perfect build is one with high DT, rad child and either explosives or unarmed with purifier. My melee character one hit kills deathclaws and my explosive character takes out 3-4 deathclaws in one shot when they group up, I am on normal though.

If you don't care about that, and there is only one of them... Get on a tall rock and smack it in the face while it tries to run up the side of the rock. Or jump/walk on it's head off the rock and punch it do death while you ride it. Be Careful, if the rocks not high enough or you get too close to it's "attack zone" whatever it's actually called (usually in front of the chest) they will just smack you off, before you get a chance to do either.

Since we're on the topic of New Vegas, can I ask how you guys put up with companions? They drive me crazy, as they did in FO3 and Oblivion. Always getting stuck due to pathing issues, and constantly bugging out. I used Boone for about 5 minutes before he got stuck in a sulfur mine(Not sure of the name) and the game had to be reloaded. Furthermore, they always get in the way during indoor firefights, randomly get stuck in combat or perma-die after 1 encounter with a cazador because they can't use antivenom. Gah. Game is easy enough solo. (Though if someone knows of a mod to make them less prone to getting stuck, I might use them as pack mules)

delusions of grandeur ... Okay captcha

I stood by Melissa Lewis and looked out over the abanddoned quarry. I took out my anti-material rifle and moved south, silently sniping every DC along the way including the alpha male and matriarch. I dont userly try the sneaky approach but this called for it and it was fun timez.

I had trouble with EDE constantly after I accidentally installed two mods to fix him and they broke each other (why the fuck does he have legs?) but with the others the only problem I had was the ones who were fucking irritating being the most useful and the semi-interesting ones being stupid and having useless qualities.
I gave up with the companions.

They provide interesting commentary on the situation of Vegas and some of them have very interesting personal quests.

Always getting stuck due to pathing issues, and constantly bugging out. I used Boone for about 5 minutes before he got stuck in a sulfur mine(Not sure of the name) and the game had to be reloaded.
Why reload? Just fire them and re-hire, or try telling them to back away, or tell them to stay in one spot, or try telling them to keep their distance.

Furthermore, they always get in the way during indoor firefights, randomly get stuck in combat
Tell them t keep their distance, or tell them to wait...I don't know this never really happens to me.

or perma-die after 1 encounter with a cazador because they can't use antivenom. Gah. Game is easy enough solo.
Either play on casual or just go up to them while they're poisoned and give them a stimpak.

That's how I do it... on lvl 3.
On my first playhtrough, I just hoarded a fuckload of mines and upped my demo skill, and blew them all to kingdom come.

LOL!!! Best response ever...

*cough* I left and came back a few levels later since I was a pugilist. I did Legion's Strike and then swung like a retard kid in a fist fight until, crying and scared, I had achieved victory.

you need Annabelle (weapon)....and missiles.....5 of them....or more....if you want to kill just one.
I went to sloan once and there is a particular part of the mine where there are an Alpha male and a mother or alpha female of the pack. I think they are invincible because the Alpha male after 7 missiles to the face didnt even budge

So I was tearing up the Mojave, killing Legion and Nightkin and generally being a badass for this opening portion of the game. I'm about level 11 right now with a lot of points in Guns, Science, and Speech. The rest of my skills are around 25 points each. I'm currently carrying Lucky (a very decently powerful Revolver), That Gun (an even more powerful pistol that shoots rifle rounds), a Caravan Shotgun loaded with Solid Slug ammunition, and a grenade rifle. I'm also packing 3 frag grenades and mines each. Finally, I have Boone with me.

Anyway, I've been getting through the game pretty well so far this time. This is probably my first runthrough using Guns and explosives rather than Energy weapons. Of course, as I'm leaving Camp Forlorn Hope, I seem to have run into one very angry Deathclaw. I've been killing the young Deathclaws by the dozen but this Adult is the first creature to kill me in this run.

So, who has ideas as to how to kill this thing? I tried crippling its legs with the slug rounds from my shotgun in VATS, but that ended with me as a pile of disconnected limbs.

UPDATE: Alright, folks. I got a lot of good ideas here. So here's the thrilling conclusion to my random run in with that Deathclaw.

I took some of the tactical advice a lot of you gave out concerning the mines. I put down the three mines in a triangular pattern in this valley and told Boone to wait a little ways away. That minefield would act as the killzone.

I ran forward with my Caravan shotgun and took some shots at the big beastie with the slug ammo. Didn't really pierce the Deathclaw hide but I definitely got its attention. Naturally, I panicked and started running towards Boone. Thankfully, he figured out what was happening and started firing. I didn't turn around to watch but I did hear an explosion. The Deathclaw sweeped me once with its claws but Boone must have hit something vital on it, staggering it. I turned around and started unloading slugs into the Deathclaw's face until its head finally exploded. That's right. Level 11 and I killed a Deathclaw with a starter shotgun.

Feeling proud, I continued my run towards Boulder city and was immediately blindsided by another Deathclaw that had been a little farther away.

I just want you all to know that I didn't cry.
How'd you get Lucky? It's in the Bison Steve casino but you have to have 75 points in lockpick to get it?

Trying to kill a Deathclaw at Lv11...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Go back once you are at least LV 20-25.
The don't even try to get close to it.
Snipe it and use Grenades, let your companions do most of the close quarters work.
And Crippling the legs and arms will help.
They aren't dangerous unless they get right up close to you. I cleared the Quarry out at level 12 with a modded cowboy repeater (fire rate and condition mods + hand load rounds) with Boone and ED-E. I sneak attacked em then drew them into range of my companions. Only the Alpha male got close enough to swing at us, but it died a few seconds later to VATS head shots and Boone's crits.

Distance is your best friend when fighting strong foes. Doubly so if you have Boone with you.

1. Be glad its not a Fallout 3 deathclaw.

2. Run backwards while shooting, stopping only to use stimpacks etc. or switch weapons

3. If you die, try a different route to Boulder city. The road from Novac is usually clear, if long.

Nah, I just use sneak attack crits with the anti-material rifle.

Go to the Great Khan camp that over looks the quarry. Slowly make your way down the hill, and climb on top of the big bulldozer/digging machine. Then start picking off the death claws. Head shots should bring down even the really scary alpha Deathclaw, but maybe only if you have Better Criticals [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Better_Criticals].

I would advise against using shotguns at all. They have a pretty high DT, and shotguns are particularly ineffective against them.

Oh and if you're playing on hardcore, leave your companions somewhere safe since the Death Claws will certainly kill them.

Anti-Material rifle + sneak critical. Boom, headshot. That is all.

Don' make he mistake of using AP ammo, regular rounds are better for sneak attacks.

Do what the man says. You have to be a pretty dumb motherf*cker to even go near a Deathclaw. Especially, an Alpha.

And a shotgun? Really, Shotguns work on humans, kid. You need something that can pack an extra punch. I suggest using the ratslayer rife.

Sniper rifle with AP rounds to the head and then follow up with a shot or two from the brush gun as they run closer.

or

Use the Hunting Shotgun along with the And Stay Back perk, as the knockback effect will give you a chance to escape if you get cornered.
