Lasers. Plasma. Gauss. These weapons,although more expensive to maintain than others,pack a very decent wallop compared to other weapons of their "tier",and a good chunk of them have little to no recoil. On top of that...Energy weapons crit more often than any other weapon type.
Furthermore...It's simply more awesome. Why use a service rifle wearing T-51b when you could use a Gattling Laser or the YCS?
