I've always loved the Fallout series for the sense of vastness it gives you... and exploring dangerous ruins. From the Glow (1) to the Sierra Army Depot (2) to the National Guard Depot (3) and on to Vault 34 (New Vegas)... that tense exploration is my favorite part.
You know, the Sierra Army Depot has always disappointed me. Every single time I arrived their I had far better equipment that what was inside and found none of the loot useful(aside from Skynet obviosly) and ended up selling everything, which is kind of sad.

So I was replaying Fallout 3 for the umpteenth time last night, and I got to GNR, as I was doing the main story first. The Super Mutant Behemoth showed up and proceeded to rape the Brotherhood in the ass, but fortunately, I remembered I had a missile launcher on hand. The Behemoth charged at me, intent on making me its *****, when I pulled out the launcher. I fired at point-blank range...

But that god damn Behemoth didn't even take 1 tick of damage, didn't even FLINCH.

I died about 5 seconds after exiting V.A.T.S.

I didn't know that I was placing all the blame on Obsidian. In fact, as far as I know, Bethesda was doing all the patching which took them 6 months apparently: that is assuming the game actually works now. And I agree, as the publisher, Bethesda should've held it back from launch until it worked properly. They're more than likely the ones saying "just get it onto shelves and we'll fix it later."
As a consumer, I shouldn't have the onus of placing the blame (that's for the two companies to figure out; I didn't work on the project), all I know is that I paid $60 for a game that didn't work.
That said, Obsidian doesn't have a great track record on their own either. Their games are notoriously buggy too. So if they're working on a game using someone else's engine, it would be best for that company to do all the technical stuff.
Oh ok, it just sounded like you were placing the blame on Obsidian.

Yes Obsidian have a record for buggy games but so do Bethesda.

However, the way I look at it is that Obsidian have a better track record when it comes to storytelling, writing and characters compared to Bethesda. It really is a shame that Obsidian games are always plagued by bugs, they have such great stories and characters and that is what makes me forgive them, however, they should focus a bit more on bug stomping.
That's why I'm suggesting that Obsidian and Bethesda integrate their strongest resources for the next one: have Obsidian writers do the main story & characters and design some functionality but have Bethesda create the world & side missions; and seeing as how it's their engine, have them to the technical stuff too.
That and have it be neither East or West coast like Chicago, Detroit, or New Orleans. Depending on the tone they want to go for it could be very gangster, industrial, or swampy. Do want a game that more resembles Gomorra, The Pitt, or Point Lookout.
I'd play any of them but I would rent it first, just to make sure it works. Doing the same with Skyrim.

I was just about to ask you all which you preferred, Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I played New Vegas first, and I'm currently playing 3. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on this subject, but I think I still like New Vegas better.

Also anybody play the latest DLC yet?
I think the hate on New Vegas is because it feels more like an add-on than a new game at least that's why I didn't like the game as much as I liked Fallout 3. Then again I like fallout 2 more than 1 so I guess I'm a hypocrite.

It is a good game though and I look forwad to playing it propperly once I get all the add-ons are out.

So who else thought Joshua Graham was totally wasted in Honest Hearts? Because I totally think he was.

Also, how about that whole "Irrelevant stupid plot thread in FO3" becomes "Nifty little easter egg in Old World Blues" thing? Pretty nice, I think.

Okay, so... Lately when I was at something called The Sangawa Project, a guy there had cobbled together his idea of a totally random Fallout tabletop game. We're talking grid map, minis, random-roll characters with Fallout stuff in the place of what would normally be there. There were so many weird things you could end up being, like a super mutant with dwarfism or a guy who's mutated into being part tree (like Harold) or a radioactive man with psychic powers who may as will be a Fallout Sith Lord!

This randomosity in character type and origins and all the fun that was had in making it up would - at least to me - lend credence to the idea that a Fallout game should let you choose your past and origins, or at least try to. Maybe you get the same missions, but you still have different origins, attributes, motivations, etc. and not everything happens or can happen in the same order. As an idea, it could lead to a more entertaining game or at least allow for a bold new attempt into the field to pioneer it for others.

What do you say, fellow Escapists?

Pleas elaborate, yeh he wasn't as signifiacnt as I thought he would be but he was still an interesting character tha presents a good story of redemption through religion and test for existence.

EDIT: Not sure what Fallout: Tactics is, but I might give that a go as well.
Fallout Tactics is a mission driven game that has a similar conceit to Icewind Dale. You create a player character and then you recruit (from a list) 5 additional characters. You then go on missions for the Brotherhood of Steel. Non-combat interactions are largely minimized and combat situations themselves have been dramatically ramped up to compensate for the larger character count. The game also included a new semi-real time system. You still spent and generated Action Points but combat happened simultaneously on both sides. The action points themselves simply determine how quickly one fires their weapon.

It had the weakest narrative out of the old games by a fair margin but it was the one I most preferred to play.

Fallout 3 had some great music. I downloaded more songs from the 40's and 50's than I ever expected I would. Also, V.A.T.S. really never got old. And that super mutant with the chain gun? Here's a fun story: I was actually able to get rid of all my guns except a pistol, because I knew he would kill anything before it got even close to me. Fun times.

I didn't find Dogmeat in my fast-travel-filled first playthrough of Fallout 3. I found him within about 2 hours this time without looking.

But he kept dying and annoying me so I sent him to Vault 101 for being a bad dog.
.... What? Do you have the brotherhood of Steel DLC? If so, then you're making a mistake. He levels up with you, and by the time you hit level fifteen, he can practically solo multiple deathclaws. By the time you're level twenty, you can fire mini-nukes at him and he won't die.
I don't have any DLC.

Will he have leveled up with me even though I've left him at the Vault for about 10 levels? Or is he just going to be crap forever now? I found him at level 3 or 4 and I think I'm at 13 or 14 now.

Fallout 3 is the best title in the series. So many people complain about it but I seriously think it was the best game in the entire series... Damn "ruining the lore" or the story, etc. etc.
You better be trolling...
