You know, sometimes, I feel like actively looking up these people (not online, but IRL) and see what kind of argument they have for homosexuality being wrong. I love picking apart faulty constructed logic <3

(And my Captcha is "Exercise more", what the hell?)

"Luke, I am your mother."

I'm fed up with this. I'm sick and tired of all these prejudiced groups complaining about gay relationships... especially within a franchise known as Star WARS. Not worried about exposing your children to war then, hmm?

Besides, do they think sexual orientation is catching? Can you turn gay by being exposed to gay people? How bloody ridiculous. Even if that were true, would it really matter?

It's sad to see that their biggest problem of all is people loving each other. Who cares what gender they are? When we're all getting along that's fine, right? Or shall we forget about that and just all murder our Jedi sons instead?

That intro paragraph was wonderful. Star Wars is very dark a fair amount of the time. Murder, planet wide massacres, stealing, slavery, torture, not a pretty universe. Who's doing who is the least of the galaxy's problems.

Whenever you here the word "family" in a group name, switch it out with "I cant get any so those gay guys shouldnt either". It works so well!

If you say so [http://www.beertripper.com/OffTopic/star_wars/ot_Princess_Leia_Organa_Carrie_Fisher_Bikini.html].

I'd love to hear a comeback from them regarding the above.
Conceivably, Jabba doesn't actually want to have sex with Leia. I mean, it raises some interesting biological questions. He's just keeping her around in skimpy clothing because...uh...he's a fashion buff?

I'd be more inclined to listen to an argument against family values if this writer, and most of the comments didn't smear this group for caring about their own chosen values. Sadly, today the only values that don't get mocked are the values that value nothing.

Why do I so often see people using the "if (x) amount of violence is okay, (y) amount of sex should be, too" argument?

Sex and violence are not the same thing, and being subjected to imagery of one versus the other has a very different effect on the brain. By the logic that dictates a planet blowing up means anything tamer should exist in the Star Wars universe, why isn't it all uber-decadent torture porn? (sarlac pit, aww yeah)

Grouping sex and violence together engourages a negative view of sex, and also gives power to these activist groups by turning two separate issues into a single one. Violent sex can be fun, if you're into that kinda thing.... but it doesn't apply to most of it.

By no means do I agree with these "Family Values", but if you want to disagree with them, you'll have to do better than that.

All that matters is that who you have sex with doesn't affect anybody... accept the person you're sleepnig with... and also maybe you're spouse. Quack.

[edit] For movie geeks out there, this is the exact topic of Full Metal Jacket, to those paying attention. Watch it again, even if you already knew that, just cuz it's good.

And this is, in part, anyway, why I love Bioware. They're trolling for tolerance, instead of rage. Hi-larity ensues.

A form letter asking BioWare to stop "impacting our children" is up now on the Florida Family Association website [http://florida-family.org/take_action_form.php?message=64]. "American families grew up with the Star Wars film series that was family fare. The films contained no profanity, no nudity and no sexual situations," it says. "It makes no sense that BioWare and Electronic Arts would shatter that family quality in Star Wars videogames just to pacify 35 LGBT polling participants and appease extremists."

the films that have the leia in a slave outfit and hinted insets dont have any sexual situations

and star wars has never had a entire race devoted to sexual exploration or anything

If they wanted no sex in general, it would at least make sense. Of course the game is already released, so good luck with that. Also creatives don't take too kindly to misdirected moral outrage.

Why would Bioware even care? It's not like these people's kids are going to be playing this game (with their parents' knowledge). Why would anyone piss on their devoted fans to get a 'meh' from their violent detractors?

The internet is as wrong, ignorant, and stupid as ever it seems. EVERYONE has it wrong here, including both parties.

Violence is a part of life this is a war, Leia being FORCED to dress as she was shows the villainous behavior of Jabba the Hutt, The Luke/Leia kiss was before they found out they were twins, but homosexual relations will send people to Hell.

Hey, that's how it is in the Bible, and if that bugs you, then can you really say you don't believe in it? A lot of the LGBT organizations say they don't believe in the Bible, but get mad when the people who do believe say that according to a book that THEY DO NOT BELIEVE IN! They will suffer a fate THEY DO NOT BELIEVE IN! Besides, Christian's say they will suffer a fate nobody believes in, but the Koran? It says to kill homosexuals, plain and simple. So stop bashing Christianity, they're only using their voice.

Now, Lucas never had any inkling of homosexual relations in the Star Wars universe, however, with all the other weirdness involved in Star lore, I can't see why it WOULDN'T be there. What these christian organizations fail to realize is that Star Wars takes place in a fantasy world, where instead of God, there is The Force. The rules are totally different, and that's why it should be okay to have people play what they want.

What is NOT okay, is how stupid and ignorant both the internet, LGBT, and Christian groups seem to be on this issue. Honestly? Seeing the amount of unintelligent replies to this topic is enough to make me wish SOPA had passed.

Many of the LGBT organizations want to turn Christianity into hate speech.
Many Christian groups want to restrict the earthly rights of homosexuals.
The internet wants to just bully people and act stupid.

Everyone is wrong, deal with it.

BioWare should have done the smart thing and kept quiet on the whole topic. There was no reason to make an announcement that they're going to implement homosexual marriage into a T rated game.

Also, The Escapist is covering this very unprofessionally, lashing out at Christian groups constantly with passive-aggressive tones. "If your eight-year-old kid is playing it, you're the one screwing things up" is as underhanded and unintelligent as most posts. 13-17 is still children, still under parental care. I'm not surprised in such a bias though, with the journalists tag having "Offender of the Faith" under it. They're also putting family values in quotes, as if they didn't exist anymore.

I'll end with this: I'm a Christian, and I believe homosexual relations should be allowed in SWTOR. It's a fantasy world, with plenty of weird things in is as is. I believe that everyone has the same rights while they're on this Earth. In reality, according to the Bible, homosexuals are going to Hell, it's a fact. It's not a matter of personal judgement, it's just plain fact. If that bothers someone, then they need to rethink their supposed stance on not believing the Bible. If God doesn't exist, then nothing happens and I'm wrong and everyone can feel free to laugh at me later, but if I'm right...

Also, according to reincarnation theorists, I'm going to be reborn as a bug because I'm not following what I'm "supposed" to do, but that never bothers me, so why would I get uptight about it?

And no T rating. The original Star Wars films were rated U, the Star Wars MMO is rated T. Maybe they should start paying attention to age ratings instead of taking offence.

Of course, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. The Times ran a story earlier today about how apparently the Catholic Church is going to be calling for Britain to ban Gay Marriage. The lead cardinal type person they spoke too saw nothing wrong with this statement:

'[Gay Marriage is a] grotesque subversion of a universally accepted human right.'

A universally accepted human right.

A universally accepted human right

Am I missing something here? Did a man in the 21st century just say that gay people aren't human? That don't have universally accepted rights like other people? Or did he just manage to confuse what 'universal' and 'human' mean.

I guess my point, if I have one, which is questionable, is that religious people, overly concerned 'pro-family' people, the hyper-sensitive moral majority et al will always overreact to to anything that doesn't fit into their narrow litle worldview.

I'm not asking that they be forced to try and understand everything new, I'm not asking them to give up their own traditions. But when I don't understand something (be it lifestyle, religion, political viewpoints) then I choose one of two options:

EITHER

I accept that some people will always do things I can't understand. I do things my parents can't understand, my sister does things I don't understand, I'm friends with Satanists, people who scarfiy themselves, people who do copious amounts of drugs and people who abstain from absolutely everything other than quiet study and philosophical debate. I don't understand any of them, but they're not hurting me or anyone else so whatever.

OR

I realise that they are hurting other people through their actions, and decide to take a stand against them in whatever way I can, whether that's by actively taking to the streets as I did against the BNP, sending messages to my local MP and the group I oppose, as I did against Rush Limbaugh simply in protest, or just spreading the message that what they are doing is wrong.

Sadly, looks like all these mothers groups fit into category B. Why can't we all just live and let live?

So they're complaining about the possibility of this same-sex relationship stuff being put into the game post launch? As in it's not even out yet?

Yeah 'Mericuh!

Y'know I could have so much fun just picking apart all these crappy, kneejerk, poorly thought out arguments just by quoting what little I know of that constitution thing that's always brought up whenever anyone says anything ever. You know what i'm talking about.

But there isn't even anything sexual about the romances in ToR. It's just romance and handful of fade to black kisses (as in you don't see the kiss just the lean in and then fade to black).

Well after a little modification i sent the message. It's people like these that make me want to stop being a christian.

Anyway for the curious here's the modified email I sent to the American Dickency place.

"American families grew up with the Star Wars film series that was family fare. The films contained little profanity, moderate nudity and no onscreen sexual situations.

It makes sense that BioWare and Electronic Arts would continue that family quality in Star Wars video games just to give the option to LGBT participants and give bicurious players options.

Star Wars video games are for everyone. An overwhelming percentage of the 1.7 million games sold are being used by children who do need to be exposed to this, and taught tolerance at an early age. Please stick to your policy to continue such advocacy representations in your games.

Please tell us that it is not too late to stop our children from becoming bigots.

I look forward to sharing your response with family and friends.

Thank you."

Now I didn't touch the "1.7 million games being used mostly be kids" cause I have no idea and I just wanted to troll this place.
