Okay. I think this is a good opportunity to ask a question.

These so-called "family associations" are always crying foul about LGBT rights and their presence in the media, saying such things "harm traditional family values".

Fine. How?

Someone explain to me how we get from a starting point of tolerating and giving equal rights and fair treatment to LGBT people, to the end point of traditional family values being harmed in any way.

I certainly can't think of any credible course of events that connects those two scenarios.

..Yes, a game that doesn't even have same-sex romance options available yet (key word) is somehow directly endorsing the "homosexual agenda" by not having homosexuality in the game as of yet. And as far as I am aware, homosexual's do not possess Jedi Mind powers that can alter reality perceptions for people playing a game by making their Straight and Pure (tm) virtual romance scenes appear homosexual instead in some insidious fashion.

..Or do they?
Well after scott pilgrim showed me what vegans can do, who knows what powers other groups of people have.
That aside, how do you think that these movies are exactly family friendly? They have some pretty dark stuff in there.
Good thing these people never saw the Lord of the Rings interviews, or else they'd really be up in arms.

*Shrug* What else is new. Look at it this way; in 30-40 years gays will still be around and society will be more welcoming of them. And these people will be dead.

Suuure, a kid that somehow can afford $60 plus $15 monthly will be disturbed by a T rated game about a series that has plenty of violence.

Oh my god, simply don't buy them the game then! UGH!

Slightly related story - Everyone found out a guy at work (who is was friends with, and respected by, pretty much everyone) is gay, now none of the guys want to have a beer with him or hang out or even swap shifts! I recently chose to step back and decide who I really want to be friends with now.

INCEST.

Luke is at first attracted to Leia. That is all that needs to be said to these people! Hah!
Heck, if you look at Phantom Menace the right way, Padme was flirting with Anakin when he was ten.

The Skywalker Family is clearly screwed up.

Ah, Star Wars, wholesome family entertainment. Luke getting his hand chopped off, Leia being forced into sexual slavery, Anakin getting an arm chopped off, Anakin chopping off Dooku's arms and then straight up murdering him, Qui-Gon getting impaled, Darth Maul getting chopped in half, Jango Fett getting an arm lopped off followed by decapitation, Mace Windu joining the disarmed before being blasted out a window, Anakin murdering a bunch of children in the Jedi Temple, a T'wilek dancer gets fed to a Rankor... I can see how adding homosexuality would taint Star Wars lily white image

Is it just me, or does Star Wars have more dismemberment then Kill Bill?

well nobody cares what those idiots think, but ill indulge.
How is this propaganda? Propaganda is media created with the sole blatant purpose of advocating a certain viewpoint, SWTOR isnt that. I dont even think Bioware are actively trying to promote gay rights with this, they just think its okay and are acting within that belief.

I loved how non-sexual Star Wars was!

Oh... right... the whole tongue thing...

At least it wasn't violent or anything!

I invite everyone to forward this form letter to the Florida Family Association and their ilk.
----------------------------------------------------
Dear Florida Family Association (et. all),

While I understand that you do not approve of homosexual relationships I fear you are in the wrong in your demands of Bioware. Bioware is merely offerring players the choice to engage in same sex relationships in their Star Wars MMO; they are not pushing or advocating these relationships they are merely allowing it for those who desire, just like in real life. If Bioware is taking any kind of stance with this action it is only that freedom of choice, to love according to your own desires and values, is a good thing.

You attempt to rob our children of that freedom, to teach them that love and passion are only acceptable within rigid guidelines. You cling to family values that fail to acknowledge that the family dynamic has changed. We have your idea of the typical family; with Ma, Pa, Bobby, and Sue; we have single parent families, we have childless families, we have adopting families, and in many countries we even have families with same-sex parents. Times have changed and I fear they've caught you sleeping.

Again I understand your preference and by all means it is your right to hold that preference, but you have no right to demand that your preference be forced upon anyone, nor to insinuate that the inclusion of other preferences somehow intrudes on yours. If you find exposure to homosexual relationships harmful to your children than you are free not to buy them the game.

Furthermore I invite you to remove the stick lodged firmly up your a** and cram it down your throat so that you might choke on it.
--------------------------------------------------------
Feel free not to forward that last part.

As a practicing Jew, I can tell you that leviticus is so outdated as to the point of being laughable. The fact that Christians take any stock in it at all is downright hilarious, especially since they ignore entire chapters about the ritual sacrifice of animals, which are equally legitimate commandments.

It was written in ancient times when the Israelites were meant to be a community of priests, who would separate themselves from other cultures in Canaan (now Israel) by disallowing acts such as homosexuality, only to distinguish the Israeli community, mind you. 'Chosen People' and all that.

Granted, my ancestors failed miserably in being a community of priests at nearly every turn after that, and the temple necessary for sacrifice was destroyed, the ancient Jews kind of shrugged it off and prayed instead, kind of forgetting about leviticus.

Meanwhile all the Gentiles swept up to Christianity clung to the thing like bees to honey, probably because it condemned anything they found threatening, no matter harmless it actually was.

heehee. If G-d really was looking over people's shoulders while they penciled the other testaments, G-d must've had a little bit too much "no longer traversing the desert for 40 years" wine by the time they got to leviticus.

The Escapist is covering this very unprofessionally, lashing out at Christian groups constantly with passive-aggressive tones. "If your eight-year-old kid is playing it, you're the one screwing things up" is as underhanded and unintelligent as most posts. 13-17 is still children, still under parental care. I'm not surprised in such a bias though, with the journalists tag having "Offender of the Faith" under it. They're also putting family values in quotes, as if they didn't exist anymore.
I would disagree wholeheartedly, although I certainly never claimed to be a professional. Christians and everyone else are free to believe what they want, and play or not play videogames as they see fit. What I find intolerable is pissing in someone's soup because their values don't happen to match yours.

If you don't want your kids playing it because you're afraid it's somehow going to indoctrinate them into the gay lifestyle, then don't let them play it. But don't presume that you have the right to make that decision for the rest of the world.

To review;

these people are letting their children play a T rated M M O game... you know, online... with other people... who can (and WILL) say whatever they want... and they're worried that the off-hand option for fictional same-sex relationships will somehow scar their kids.

I mean, have any of these complaining individuals even spent a minute on a public online chat room or forum?

Your children discovering that homosexuality might EXIST should be the least of their worries.

Bioware should, in response, add even more violence and sexual content to their game, if only to spite these idiots.
