Fanbase your ashamed to be a part of

Right now, I'm feel ashamed to be a Mass Effect fan. I hate that fans are still petitioning and complaining to get a new ending. I believe that an artist should have right to whatever he or she wants with their art. I'm not saying that avoids them of criticism, but fans seem to have lost sight of line between criticism and just be an a-hole, and that the last 5 minutes of game shouldn't ruin the experience of playing a game, regardless of how many hours you put in. What Fan base do you feel ashamed to be a part of? and Please don't come here about the ending of ME3. I was just using that as an example.

Why on earth would I be ASHAMED because of a completely coincidental association with people whom I share nothing else in common with besides the appreciation of a particular piece of media? Could there be a less cohesive unit than a fanbase?

I haven't played ME3, but I disagree. The end of a story is extremely important. My personal example would be the end of Neverwinter Nights 2's original campaign. God was it ever terrible. Fortunately the Mask of the Betrayer expansion saved the day.

I'm happy to be a Mass Effect fan. It's a good series, despite its flaws, and if fans want to have an input in the game, more glory to them (films have test-screenings, after all. Plus a lot of them are cut and re-cut over time). It would be absurd of me to say "I'm ashamed of liking a series because other people who like a series want to make changes to the last 5 minutes." I think I can respectfully disagree with my fellow fans about the ending without being ashamed of being associated with them. The ones I have issue with are the ones who cannot respectfully disagree with Bioware's ending, but they are the minority.

Oh, and your thread is quite clearly a rant about the ME3 ending controversy, not a question about fanbases.

Case in point: Halo 3. A pretty damn good game, but just ended up coming with such a stigma.

I'm pretty sure rational people can distinguish between the behavior of an individual and the quality of a product that individual enjoys. If I see a man eating a steak dinner and acting like a boor, I don't assume steak dinners would only appeal to boors and run around badmouthing steak.

There are moments when I feel ashamed to be a fan of gaming in general. Given all of the whining, tantrum throwing, business hating that goes on amongst gamers these days, there are definitely times I`d rather just bury my head in the sand. Of course, it doesn`t stop me from playing games that I enjoy but I do feel a near permanent facepalm some days.
