Let's see...
Well, I'll start by saying I'm not ashamed of anything. I like what I like and screw the idiots who make the groups I'm a part of seem like assholes. THEY have nothing to do with who I am and how I act. I'm not responsible in any way for their actions.

But I am a:

-Gamer. The fanboys all suck. People act like game consoles are countries at war and they have to prove that the others aren't as good as their chosen baby in order to fulfill themselves or something. It honestly seems like the gamers who are actually open to all systems and good games regardless of platform are the minority. VAST minority perhaps, judging by sales numbers on the Wii's best games versus the sales of the console itself.

-Furry. Do I even need to say why? If there's anything other furries suck at it's being level-headed when the fandom comes into question, and explaining realistically what it's about. @ the furfags: No, furry is NOT a fetish. Maybe it is to you and your circle, but that is not true for the fandom, so stop telling people it is. For such a diverse group, so many of us seem to see the entire fandom as the one specific part that we enjoy...

-Bronies. Look, MLP is a good show. Great, even. I get that it stings when people say they hate it, especially when they haven't watched an episode. But you're falling into the same trap as the gamers, thinking every conversation about MLP with "outsiders" is a heated debate where one side must win and the other loses. Accept that not everyone likes what you do, accept that what you do is a bit strange to many people, and try to understand that forcing something down a person's throat is the quickest way to get them to hate it.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I'm starting to get sick of everything being ponyified...there's so much unsettling erotic fanart on tumblr...it's insane.

Right now, I'm feel ashamed to be a Mass Effect fan. I hate that fans are still petitioning and complaining to get a new ending. I believe that an artist should have right to whatever he or she wants with their art. I'm not saying that avoids them of criticism, but fans seem to have lost sight of line between criticism and just be an a-hole, and that the last 5 minutes of game shouldn't ruin the experience of playing a game, regardless of how many hours you put in. What Fan base do you feel ashamed to be a part of? and Please don't come here about the ending of ME3. I was just using that as an example.
...Right. Of course. Absolutely.

OT: None. If I was ashamed to like something, then I wouldn't be a "fan".

I'm somewhat ashamed to be part of the Brony community (MLP:FiM community in case someone didn't know but I doubt that). It's not because of the fact the series is based on ponies nor the fact I am a 20 year old guy.. it's the fact most of the members (not all, but most) are really questionable with their behavior.

I used to be really engaged with the community and an all out Brony. However, as time passed up until Season 2, Bronies started to show their true colors (har har). They would bash people for giving the show criticism, or as far as not liking the show which is their personal opinion if not taste in things. Also, they'd get on each other for pairing ponies with whoever, even if it's their own OC pony. I find that silly, but the worst part is the fact they shun people for liking or draw R34 based on MLP:FiM.

I don't agree with it ether, but if people or artists themselves are into R34 for reasons rendered, who are we to judge? You don't judge and shun them saying "Oh, they're not real Bronies. They're just a disgrace and troll". .. Not as I see it, they're as much of a fan as you probably are I'm assuming. Ether way, the Brony community is alright but most of them do make me ashamed of being part of the community.

Besides, you don't treat people nicely because a show tells you to. You treat people nicely and fairly because it's the right thing to do. I mean, if you started disliking the show or if it was off the air for good.. would you keep it's morals to heart? Just saying, but yeah I am not much of a Brony anymore because of stuff like that.
Yes the creed of "Love and Tolerance" never had the same sway after S1. It still does to me, but I'm just one man among a crowd. We've still bastions left of the old guard ways. So not all is lost.

MLP FIM and a furry. Not ashamed of anything, we sure do have some real weird ones. But thats like every fanbase/fandom. *Shrugs*.

Completely agreed with you. I ended up leaving the fandom a few months ago for these very reasons, as well as my diminishing interest in the show itself. I would often get labeled a troll and treated as such for ridiculous things (liking pre-G4, liking generally unliked characters, not following fanon closely, supporting rule34 artists, among others). I just couldn't bear to be associated with them anymore. I'm aware that not all bronies act this way, but with how quickly the fandom is expanding it's certainly becoming a large number.
In all honesty, I think the Brony community is getting worse from what I gather.

Usually every community, fanbase, group, ect. has people that stand out whom make a bad name for everyone else in that setting, however.. the Brony community has way to many stands out to simply ignore the issue at hand. As in, it's not a few or dozen of fans who are over the top with the franchise and get to people- it's mainly a colony of fans making a scene with everyone that doesn't believe or agree to their opinion on MLP:FiM.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been driven out too, and know you're not alone (cause obviously me and a load of people can relate lol). I remember the event that made me quit being a full time Brony. A bunch of Bronies ganged up on a female artist for drawing a shipping of her OC pony with Big Mac. It made me dumbfounded, that Bronies would feel that sensitive toward fan art especially that the fan art alone didn't involve the main cast or anything suggestive. Turns out a lot of them claimed Big Mac belonged to Fluttershy, and she was being a "wanna-be" Brony for doing such a thing. Tried standing up for her, but I was shunned too people thinking I was trolling them or something. That's when I left the community, and now I simply just enjoy the series and nothing more.
I can definitely understand your point about the anti-shippers and anti-R34 people. A bunch of hypocrites who behave in exactly the same way as the haters they rail against; whiny, insecure people who ball their fists and screech "Stop liking what I don't like!" every time something that offends their precious sensibilities comes up.

Maybe it's because I have a more vindictive mind than some, but I tend to get around that problem by simply belittling the ones who behave like that. In truth, hanging around the DA comments is like hanging around the YouTube comments; it's filled with stubborn fools, and even attempting to post there is likely to give you an aneurism. I still think the ones who get that aggressive about the show and/or fanon are firmly in the minority.

It is a shame you've been driven out of the community (I do remember when you were one of the more pro-active members of the brony community here), but honestly, I don't want to let a few thin-skinned morons who can't handle other people's alternative interpretations of fanon get in the way of me enjoying both the show and the amazing content put out by the community. So really, I could say I'm almost aggressively not ashamed to be part of the MLP community, because I know if I did leave due to the actions of the fanatics, I'd be missing out on so much more; the stuff produced by the people who truly appreciate the show and its surrounding community.

So, I do hope one day you can feel comfortable identifying with the community again, as there is so much more to it than the 'vocal minority'.

Bioware fans. Their actions recently have made me ashamed to be associated with them. Dragon Age 2 had them screaming bloody murder and meta-critic bombing a game that wasn't actually that bad (not that great either though). ME3 had a crappy ending, but the people on BSN are acting so desperate and obsessive its sad.

Come to think of it, this has been going on for a while. I remember people bitching like there was no tomorrow when the ME2 cover was revealed. Something about it being too cheesy, or something like that.

I'm not really ashamed to be known as a fan of anything I like. I actually like fanbases, and I think getting involved in a community can be pretty awesome
Going by your user name, are you sure about that? Millen years? :p

There's nothing I'm ashamed of being a fan of. However, the brony fanbase certainly has some embarrassing people in it. The majority of the fanbase are pretty good, but the bad apples......are really bad.

Am I ashamed of being an MLP fan? No, not at all. Am I embarrassed to be associated with certain members of the fanbase? I would be lying if i said no.

I've got a few actually.

Some bronies make me reluctant to call myself a brony. The kinds who shove the show down people's throats and think it's their duty to "convert" other people. And walk down the street singing "Winter Wrap-Up" at the top of their lungs and making general asses of themselves (e.g going to Pizza Hut and demanding that ponies be drawn on the pizza box or their order, using "everypony","somepony" and "Thank Celestia" in real life etc.). Also, cloppers.

I like Halo, I consider its online component to be a lot more fun than CoD and to have a lot of variation to it which makes it more engaging, I also enjoy the campaign and find the storyline interesting. But Halo fans in general drive me insane. On one end we have the general fanboys who think its the "Best g4m3 3v3r111!!!" and dismiss things that aren't it as "gay". Then we have the MP tryhards who have a subjective definition of "skill" and define almost every tactic in the game except for a few as "nooby" (though this is a problem with a lot of MP shooters not just Halo).

I don't know if I can put this in here since I don't play WoW but I really like Warcraft III and everytime I see a WoW player commenting on a WC3 replay video with something like "Is this like a WoW mod of AoE hurr durr!" I just want to strangle them through the internet, basically WoW players who don't know that the previous Warcraft games existed triggers major nerd rage for me. If the RTS games had never existed then WoW would just be called Warcraft.

I hate it when the MMA community gets set back by some person dying in the ring in a third world country because the ref was an idiot and didn't see the fighter clearly knocked out.

I don't feel shame per se, I just blush a little when I see the particularly crazy members of any fanbase I'm a part of. Mostly in the way you might blush when one of your friends says something incredibly dumb.

I came to the realization a night or three ago that I am, without a doubt, a Final Fantasy fan. Things like the Final Fantasy MMOs being numerical, Final Fantasy 10-2 and, Final Fantasy 13-2 make me somewhat ashamed though...mainly my reluctance to play those when I'm so psyched about Theatrythem. Also a bit ashamed of myself for purchasing Dirge of Cerberus when I could have, at the same exact time, purchased Chocobo's Dungeon 2.

Be right back I'm going to grab a ladder, and it's not to join you. Hope you can dodge point blank >:D

OT: I'm not ashamed to be a part of any fanbase, because if I like something that makes people act crazy I deny any association with them. I can like something and not be a fan.

I was trying to think of what to say, but this describes it perfectly.

I consider myself a fan of the show, but not a brony. I don't go around posting pictures of ponies on threads or joining pony-related forums (only pony-related discussion here), but I do have a couple of my display pictures as a pony (iPhone and iPad home screen for example) as well as 2 figurines.
