Sweet Jesus, you have my condolences PC Gamers.

UPlay will screw up my game on my freaking 360 with a slow connection to the service or the fun times when it's not there and the game keeps reminding me that I should totally log in even though their service is the one down.

I can't imagine being forced to run my game through that system (I am assuming it has to be running for your game to run).

It's not too late to join the Console Master Race! :D

I have had nothing but problems with Uplay and even it was buying from Steam, I probably wouldn't have bought any of those games anyway because Uplay is a broken mess that they still haven't gotten to work properly since they first launched it. As much as I might like to have EA games on Steam, at least Origin is a platform that did not corrupt my registry.

EDIT:
Just spotted the price difference at the end of the artical. Never realised how much of a difference we have to pay sometimes. And if it is that bad for us I am guessing that Australia is going to get REALLY screwed.
As of this moment none of these games are on the Australian Steam Store, so whatever is going on must be affecting here as well. They are on Origin however for the low, low price of $79.95 AUD ($68.52 USD). The Gold editions of both are a ridiculous $119.95 AUD ($102.80 USD). So we're not getting gouged as bad as you guys this time funnily enough, although this is probably partly due to the fact the AUD has dropped over 20 cents compared to the USD in the past year or so.

I dislike Uplay due to the clunky and "social" layout it currently displays, I hate the bandwidth usage it has over Steam/Origin because at least with those two I can still watch a youtube video or browse the web in general, I can't do that with Uplay since it sends everything to the slowest of crawls (no I shouldn't have to "adjust" the speed settings when Origin/Steam do it right), I don't like having to launch Assassins Creed 2 from Steam only to have Uplay boot up and "sync" me with the games files which are already on my PC along with gobbling up a few processes (I like to have as few taken up as possible due to my current build).

Only redeeming feature from that client is Uplay points which I earn from certain achievements and then proceed to either save them up or spend them on the game I earned them on or other games, I like that feature and it seems EA's caught onto it too since I'm seeing them working it into Origin which would kill the last incentive I have from Uplay.

Not really fond of them doing this but in the end it's their game and they funded and created it so I'd knock off the "holding hostage" bullcrap (seriously it's easy to say anything is held hostage that I don't like these days), though them charging extra towards us in the UK just because they can earns a complete fuck off from me, no way am I going to accept that the US and other parts of the world can buy it for a regular asking price, the price they ask us is ridiculous, at best brand new AAA games here sometimes cost around £40 but they are asking for an extra £10 for fuck all reasoning, that's the biggest bullshit I have gripes with, they have zero reason to do this to us, giving us the "pricing issues" excuse is borderline insulting, there is no pricing issue with most games here (though we still get screwed but not as much as Aussies).

I do hate Uplay but I'm not going to hate the company like people do EA, I just hate the stupid as fuck decisions and the people behind them because all they do is earn ire and extreme contempt, after Watch Dogs and the ongoing crap about Unity Ubisoft is really fucking everything up, they even pandered to the PC crowd about the Division in saying they promised they would make it as graphical and promising to them as possible, basically the same excuse they used last time with Watch Dogs, seriously very stupid move and they should really consider firing and replacing the guys/gals behind PR because they've sucked at that for years now and it's obvious they aren't getting any better at it, also replace their crew that are supposed to be optimizing their games while they're at it.

Remember now kids, you may go pirate this game out of spite, but that just embeds Uplay deeper and deeper into UbiSoft's philosophy... so don't do it.

Just don't buy it.

Personally speaking, never had a single issue with Uplay, but doesn't make it right that it's forced on people.

Why is this reported everywhere as only effecting the UK? It's the same here in Canada, and in Australia as well, apparently. It sounds like this might be the case in some of the US as well.

EDIT: Double checked it, neither game shows up on the US Steam store site either. This seems like such a stupid thing for Ubisoft to do right before the games come out, after having already sold pre-order copies on Steam and marketed them on there for the last couple months.

Well I guess if I have to play those games, I will be getting physical copies, Uplay is fucking annoying, had to make an account just to patch gamebreaking AC4 bugs, basically holding their game hostage so you can get more people to sign up for their shitty client.
Even the physical disk copies will force you to install and launch from Uplay, unless you mean console copies of course.

so what, they're doing this just they can rip off the Brits and us Aussies (I couldn't find those games on Steam either) more?

Well if that's the case screw Ubisoft. if not then, I unscrew Ubisoft.

I mean I don't get it the amount of sales they'll lose buy forcing PC gamers to solely use Uplay would far out weigh Valve's cut if they kept using Steam.

guess its like they say big business's would rather take less money, as long as they're getting ALL the money.

I'm waiwaiting for the Ubi Rep comments in a few months that PC isn't a viable platform blah blah. I feel they intentionally shun PC.

Not that I'm a big Ubi fan anyway, too many sequels; but if Uplay had a better UI and the games priced better, this wouldn't be the worst news in the world. Ubi insist you long on to Uplay no matter where you buy their games, so I never buy them from steam. No point doubling down on the DRM

Like when they said that I Am Alive would never come to pc because the pc crowd are a bunch of dirty pirates, and then they did a 180 and ported it when it got terrible reviews and sold poorly.

I got Far Cry 3 off Steam and it had to be registered through Uplay. Problem was, when I tried to do so, it kept saying Uplay was offline. So I'd check my net. All fine. I'd go to Uplay's site. No problem. I'd try and use the Uplay client. Wouldn't work. Uninstalled and then reinstalled said client and it still wouldn't work. It just flat out couldn't connect to Uplay. I eventually found a work around on some obscure forum somewhere that involved changing some of the install files, and it finally got working. It was still a festering pile of poo though. If all the (now) excessive hate that Origin gets was transferred to Uplay, on top of all the existing hate for Uplay, it would still be less than they deserve. If I buy these games, it'll have to be on PS4 now. I'm still considering avoiding them altogether though.

The Continuing Adventures of Whitey Mcstubble in Hood? I haven't since AC: Brotherhood.
The Crew? Never heard of it. I don't play car games.
Far Cry 4? Who has money for that garbage in between Civ BE, Farming Simulator 2015, DA: Inquisition's Collectors Edition, The Witcher 3 and a Final Fantasy XIV subscription?

I wouldn't install Uplay even for something I really, really wanted. And I don't want anything Ubi has to offer.

It's not even simple-minded prejudice. I'm open to other platforms to some extent-- Origin and I get along just fine.

pretty much. Or when their old DRM only let you have 3 installs. If they hate us so much, why do they even bother introducing Uplay

Well they are not in the europe store either.

I have a question, if you buy the physical copy do you need to install Uplay or origin to play the game?

Ubisoft, promise me you'll never change, your chronic addiction to self sabotage warms my black heart, your blatant lies that your committed to the pc just make me leap for joy, knowing that you can't help yourself and that you'll only dig yourself deeper with more lies and self sabotage, reckless press statements.

OT:
I think Ubi have come to the misconception that because people have tolerated Uplay when they've bought games from steam that they'll tolerate only buying and using Uplay, and I hate the fact that they're using the Uk as a test bed for this ridiculousness and while I do enjoy Ubi games they rarely if ever give me as a consumer a good reason to buy new for the pc and now they're actively disincentivizing me from ever buying the pc version. I look forward to the claim six months after launch that they're abandoning pc because of rampant piracy.

It's totally pointless to sign into 2 DRM services anyway.
Why people are so stupid to buy Origin or Ubi games on STEAM is beyond me!

So Ubi just did the right consequential thing... for the most assholish reasons.
I agree. If Uplay is needed for the game, why would you even want to buy it from Steam...
You make yourself dependable on not one, but two internet services to access your game.
