The problem with Far Cry 2, is that it was called Far Cry 2.

Many who have played the original were let down by the fact that FC2 has nothing to do with FC.

I enjoyed the first half of the game. Then after realising that the next half was exactly the same as the first, it went down hill. Add in an ending that is truley a kick in the nuts and you start seeing why people hate FC2.
I could go into the whole thing that there are a lot of hints to point towards the Jackel secrectly being Jack Carter and explain the theories, but I won't.

Anyway, it's fun but just wait till the second half of the game. You do everything, only to have it taken off you and you have to do it all again. Admittedly, some of the locations and characters are more interesting, but it annoyed me enough to go play something else for a while. Icome back and finish it, mind.

I think that it did the whole 'you're a mercenary with know idea what is going on and which side is the good guys or bad guys' /Sarcasm

No, I didn't hate it but I think I need to start it again because it got really confusing about which side was who and when they moved the player from one map to another, I didn't realise and got really, really freaked out: "WHERE HAVE ALL THESE PLACES COME FROM?! WHY DOES THIS ALL LOOK NEW?!"

The game itself sorta sucks, but then I found the golden gun, and then the game was all about breaking that ************.

It would've been cool, but only if:
1: The world wouldn't revolve around you. Seriously, you're supposed to be in a war-torn African country, but everyone is out there hunting you!!!
2: The stealth mechanics wouldn't be broken.
3: The missions wouldn't be so horribly repetitive.

The actual gunplay though is rather ace, very well executed and I found it very exhilarating on a high difficulty level. But thanks to the insane repetitiveness I could only play it for like half an hour.

I personally loved it, my only quarrel is the long-ass travel times. I couldn't tell which was more painful, those or cracking your leg back into place.

EDIT: And was it just me or were there a lot of similarities between The Jackal and Jack Carver?

the only thing i felt was, they didn't take the chances with the source material i thought they would. like child soldiers. or using the backdrop of the diamonds to make a bigger sense of army and conflict. i mean for a war torn nation the "no shoot zones" never seemed to be 2 factions on the edge of pulling triggers that i was hoping they would. yeah i finished it, but never felt the baddies were that "bad" and by the end i thought i was the baddest thing that this place had ever seen, jackal aside. i was hoping for more, flight ability, more chaos. instead i got robotic jeep patrols, and a sense that if i ran far enough away they would choose to "let you go" .. by the time my rep got to level 4 I was thinking they should start HUNTING Me. instead of "OMG its HIM" and then letting me wander away "he's someone else's problem now"

i wanted to be caught in more conflicts like the opening scene. "during this huge chaos battle, get diamonds or assassinate the leaders" and that never really happened even on hardcore.

the Multi was a letdown. if you can even find a server. one can hope they would add more content. oh yeah the flame thrower, was as powerful as a hairspray can and a lighter. i remember scenes of WW2 in the pacific, where the flamethrowers had a range of 40 - 50 feet. not 6 feet if i was lucky.

I like it. Gameplay is solid, health system is awesome, enormous world, extremely pretty and it got great animations.

Though it's extremely annoying that the entire game world are hostile to you, the AI are idiotic and the save system got some real issues.

I didn't mind that so much actually. It was just that you had to do really shitty missions to get new pills.
It needed to show you how many you had left, the animation was ambiguous so you could have had a full bottle or just two left

Positives:

- It's really pretty
- Surgical animations
- Buddies

Negatives:

- The narrative tries to be deep and meaningful, but it appears 3 times (for about 5 minutes each) at the start, middle and end.
- Enemy camps respawn once your back is turned, so all the ammo you've just bought is spent on them instead of your mission
- Fast travel is a pain in the arse
- Enemies know your exact position, even when you're sniping from a considerable distance
- Stealth system isn't very good
- The machete requires 2 hits for a kill, even though:

a) You're stabbing them right in the back
b) Everyone in the world knows that knives > guns in games!

- Malaria is just annoying
- The map is too big and boring
- There's nothing to do other than the main missions (bar find diamonds - whoop)
- The factions are near indistinguishable
- Characters are flat and dull including the Jackal who (like the story) tries to be all interesting and deep but only has a screen time of 10 minutes max.

That's all I can think of right now.
Oh, and the diamond as currency thing was annoying too. It was troublesome for me to go hunting for diamonds.

Someone calling FarCry 2 a good game?

________________________________________________________________________________________________________
-No reason to call it FarCry due to no mutants, no mention of mutants or even human research. More like GTA in Africa and first person.

-Repetitive mission objectives meaning you always know what's coming

-Stealth is failure, due to the in-effectiveness of Machete, and apparently everyone is wearing Hawaiian shirts now, or at least, with the amount of times enemies see you, you'd think that.

-Wasn't I meant to be killing the Jackal? Everytime I went for a mission, there was no evidence that I was getting any closer to getting the Jackal. No-one gave me info, and no-one even gave me a second glance.

-After your buddy has rescued you, find somehow to put him somewhere safe, otherwise, they will die when your about 2 miles away. I am not joking.

-The ending. The god-damn ending... Why the hell?

-What's the point in having two different factions if they never fight ever? Why are they the same people, with the same accents but just want a different thing blown up? Why?

Okay, I'm done ranting.

Calumon: He did like FarCry 1 though.

While I agree with all of your points, I still loved Far Cry 2 as much as the OP does. If they had just put a little more thought into the story, get rid of the 'Jungle corridors', and switched up the mission repetition a bit that game could've been a masterpiece IMHO.

I'm not sure exactly what people dislike about it so much, but I'm sure they have their reasons.
Here's what I disliked about it:

The save system
The respawning enemies
The repetitive nature
The respawning enemies
The fast travel system
The respawning enemies
The not-very effective stealth
The resp---- you get my point

I did get into it more towards the end when I unlocked all the cool explosive weapons though. It was gloriously gratifying to be able to just mangle the jeeps with one shot from the grenade launcher.

The free-form approach to the missions was cool too, it was always fun and just the right level of challenging (I played on normal and thought it was well balanced)

The AK47 in that game was really fun to use too.

I would have adored it, except:

1. Too many enemies.

2. Too many respawns for enemies.

3. Enemies have too many bullets.

4. The enemies are too relentless in chasing you down.

If I can't explore for five minutes without being shot at, set on fire, or stabbed, I don't enjoy myself.

I personally enjoy FC2, going to play it again when I get some free time. The convoy missions in particular are really fun, setting up mass IED's or using an RPG on them. The malaria was very annoying though and definitely the worst part of the game. FC2 wasn't an amazing game, but it was still good fun to play.

It looks like my kinda game to be honest... Especially with the level editor thing. But the fact that you can only play online with those levels is a bit of a turn of because I can't go online with my PS3. Maybe I'll wait til Far Cry 3 comes out.

I found it was really fun to try to test as many different strategies as I could. Due to the open environment, the huge number of weapons and the enemy AI, I never got bored facing enemies, even at the outposts.
