I absolutely love animals. I can't stand to see one abused. I've had many pets die on me. 1 cat,Tinkerbell , 2 dogs, Duke and Rex, 2 hamsters, can't remember their names because I was young, though I know one died because of cancer, and a bird, Jake. I loved all of my pets.

Shasta is still around :D Still taking care of you no doubt

because I'd like to think my own dog is looking out for me.

I got my dog Shadu when I was a year old, he was a couple of months. At the time I thought all dogs where named Shadow but I could only say Shadu. He was a boxer pit bull mix so he was huge from the start and had to sleep outside when he got older. We never really payed attention to him, something I really regret. He was a great dog, he would go on walks by himself and come back the next day sitting on the porch until we opened the door. When he was around ten he grew a tumor on his neck. We weren't well off and it didn't hinder him in anyway so we never took him to the vet.

He was fine until he turned 16. His tumor started to act up, he had arthritis and was completely senile. (We have an empty in ground pool thats 10 feet across and he tried to jump across it, he fell in but was perfectly fine since I caught him). A year passed and his tumor got even worse, it popped and we had to clean it out every five minutes if not the flies would infest it. We decided we needed to put him down but the vet scheduled us for the next day.

It was probably the worst day of my life, we had cleaned out his wound and bandaged it but the flies still got to it. I spent the whole day cleaning maggots out of his wound. I cried the whole day and begged him to forgive me. Then we took him in. I still remember him closing his eyes, his breath getting shallow how warm he still was when we took him home and how cute he looked in the shirt we dressed him up in as we put him into his grave.

He was the best dog ever and I took him for granted, I still cry when I see his pictures.

No, we did have a cat that we had for 8 years, got it when I was.. 9. Sadly, she went missing early last year, a months after she went missing we found her body, all curled up like she was sleeping. Only she was really thin, as if she hadn't been eating for the whole time she was missing, there were chunks of her fur missing.. she was in a really bad way. And she was on our door step. She had been starved to death and her corpse delivered back to us.

I've already vowed to seriously hurt the sick bastards how did it.

Never had to put any pets down, thankfully.

We do have a few more cats, we keep a close eye on them now and don't let them out at night.

I do remember that my grandparents had to put their dog down a few years ago. It was a sad affair, but they should have done it much sooner, the poor dog was suffering. He had cancer, arthritis, bad lungs, a few things wrong with his heart. Poor dog.

I had a Cat, his name was Oz. He was a big, mean, son of a *****, but he was our son of a *****. I don't think any of my brothers made it without getting at least one scar from him. That's not to say that he wasn't a really sweet cat, he just liked to try and hurt us. We used to live in a fairly sparsely populated area, next to a forest, in the foothills where cougars and coyotes are known to live in fairly large numbers, and yet every time when Oz would go outside and stay out all night, he would be standing next to the door, waiting to be let in sometimes with a fully grown rabbit (not a cute little bunny, but a big wild rabbit) laying headless beside him (like a said, a mean son of a *****). For six or seven years this went on, until we moved into town and he became an indoor cat, which he was more than happy to do. However, about a year after we moved, I woke up and let him out of my room I noticed that he was walking funny, like his leg was asleep or something like that. I alerted my mom and the rest of the day was spent nervously waiting for her to get home from the vet. It turned out that he had a clot in his leg, which eventually made its way to his lungs and was causing him a lot of trouble breathing, mostly due to his lungs filling with fluids. We had him put down later that night. I didn't cry, but I still feel sad thinking about my asshole of a cat.

We have a Golden Retriever who is nearing the end, he's more of my brother's dog so I don't think it will hit me really hard when he goes.

I don't think I'll ever get a pet once I'm out on my own, I don't think I want to deal with the loss.

Your dog sounds pretty amazing, Redlin. I'm sorry for you loss.

We recently had to put my dog of 12 years down as well. He had started throwing up a lot and it got progressively worse, to the point he would puke even with no food in his somach and he couldn't keep anything down.

Putting him down was probably the hardest thing my family ever had to do.

For us, the rational and compassionate side of us forced us onwards but there were no smiles or laughing the rest of that day. It was horrible for all of us and I haven't seen my Mom cry like that in ages.

Had a dream where he was alive last night. I know there's a Shasta out there somewhere and I hope that whenever I end up... beyond, I can play with him again :')

The initial pain for me has passed. I still get bummed out about it but it was the first four days that were the hardest for me.
