The final battle against Gruntillda (sp?) in Banjo-Kazooie. After years of stuggeling throughout the game, finally confronting her at last made soo pumped and feeling of "today you are finally going down!" I soon learn shortly how wrong I truely was, but man that was one hell of a boss battle. Finally defeating her gave me the must satisfying joy.

And while her boss battle in Nuts and Bolts while nothing compared to the original, it did have an amazing remake of her theme song.

I know I'm probably going to get flack for this, but I really liked the Ancient Rock Wraith from dragon age 2, what I really liked about it was two things: there were some really cool mechanics involved in fighting him, and that whole zone you go through to get to him seemed like something right out of Metroid to me (the Ancient Thaig reminded me of Bryyo from Corruption and the boss reminded me of Thardus from MP1) that's probably why I still have good memories of the game because of that awesome boss fight that had some (unintentional) allusions to a very treasured series of mine

here's a link to what he looked like if anyone interested:

and here's Thardus from MP1:

EThe Emerald Weapon from FF7 because you really had to plan your tactics to beat it and even then, a lucky blow could destroy you.

I'm trying to get a few from a few genres. I love making lists!

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Legion (don't remember what they called him there)

Conker's Live and Reloaded (haven't played the original, sue me) - Great Mighty Poo

Guitar Hero 3 - Lou

Marvel Ultimate Alliance - Galactus

Mass Effect - Saren (not actually fighting him but, talking him into shooting himself)

Star Fox 64 - ANY and EVERY level wherein you fight Star Wolf and crew

Zelda 2 - Barba

Fistfight. With the Pope.
...Well damn, when you put it like that...I never actually thought of it like that before, even when I did it.

I loved that one due to it's awesomeness but it felt way too one sided, I mean come on. A pissed off Assassin Vs an Un-armed Pope.

Assassin's make killing an art.
Pope...is pope.

It felt too easy for me. :S

OT: For me I guess it would be the final Battle in Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

I mean a one on one showdown with a bad ass in an awesome environment and also the final hit...I loved that. :D

The Lich King. There wasn't really any mechanics that we hadn't seen before, but I enjoyed the cruelty of him be able to defile and call valkyr at the same time.

To explain: defile requires the raid to spread out or it's a wipe.

The valkyr requires the raid to stack in the middle or they will pick up a player, carry them to the edge and drop them to their death.
Deathwing is pathetic compared to The Lich King.

Of course, Pre-Nerf Heroic Lich King is the only boss from Wrath that was actually better than Zero-Light Yogg-Saron.

More OT:

From more recent games, Dark Souls has two of my favorites

Just love the music from both those fights.
I always feel bad finishing off Sif. The way she limps at you is just heart wrenching. On the other hand, before I tag-teamed her with a Souls-buddy, I had no idea how to win, but holy finagling hog-monkeys! Her AI is not set up for two people, that's for sure.

But what makes it worse was when I fought her without a strong melee weapon, so I crossbow-ed her to death. On the one hand, it was a fairly safe battle-style (dodge and chip, dodge and chip), but it meant that when she started limping, it takes FOREVER to end it.

OT: Sif is pretty cool. Mt Gagazet Seymour is painful. Alduin is fun because it is 4 vs 1, and dragon rend + shield makes him stagger ALL THE TIME!

1. Reliquary of Souls (World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade: Black Temple). A brilliant fight for showcasing how to work as a team. Phase 1 requires precise positioning, and an extremely tricky aggro switch, phase 2 all player damage is reflected so the DPS needs to learn to carefully do as much DPS as possible without killing themselves, phase 3 is a really tense DPS race.

2. Illidan (same as above). I got to be one of the flame tanks, which I'd very much dreaded yet looked forward to at the same time because everyone who had done it said that it was the hardest part to tank in the whole game. I managed to pull it off perfectly, and that made me so damn proud.

I'm always fond of The End from MGS3, but then again, mostly everyone is. All of the giant robot battles from Mystic Ninja starring Goemon are hilarious and fun as well.

Does anyone remember that one boss from Chrono Trigger: It was a green monster sage-thing in Magus' Castle. It had a barrier around it that made it impervious to direct attacks so you just had to attack the chains holding up the platform it was standing on so he would fall to his death?

That whole "Defeat the boss by manipulating the environment" blew my goddamn mind back when I was a kid!
You mean Ozzie, Magus' wacky second in command. It's even better in the second time, once you hit all the switches (one of which drops your party into a pit) and start the fight again, a random cat shows up and flips the final switch. Cue Ozzie falling down the pit.

From Chrono Trigger again, the final form of Lavos was also really neat as the obvious target wasn't actually the one you needed to hit. Instead of the body you had to attack the innocuous looking blob next to it.

Ok let me think...Dark Samus from Metroid Prime 2, Ganon from Twilight Princess, Red Eye from Lost Planet 2, half of the bosses from Dark Souls. That's all I got.
