Easily Demetri Martin, who is not only my greatest comedic inspiration, but is also one of my personal heros for reasons outside his comedy. Watch his special: "If I..." for more.
Oh yes Add Demetri to my list. Ha ha

I like a few, but my favorite? Hands down, George Carlin. May you rest in peace sir. The world could use another like you right now.

Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard and Richard Pryor. Bill Hicks too I guess, and it`s hard to not put Robin Williams on the list as well, along with Rhod Gilbert. For pure hillarious tastelessness, Frankie Boyle always delivers.

Edit: Noooooooooooooooo...I forgot the musical giggleworthyness and general groove of the mighty Bill Bailey.

Edit 2(written along with edit 1): Whatever happened to Ed Byrne? Remember seeing him on Conan years and years ago, then later finding him again on youtube...but it`s been rather quiet from him lately.

Russell Howard is my favourite all time comedian, there's nothing I truly dislike about him. Even his lazy eye is quite humorous now that he makes jokes about it.

However, Micky Flanagan is someone that I wouldn't pass up watching on TV right now too. I just wish he had more jokes.

Stephanie Meyer. Those parodies on actual human relationships are hilarious. I don't think that people in the theater were getting the joke though. I didn't understand how so many people keep coming to these movies and didn't find them funny.

Nthing George Carlin. Guy is not afraid to tell it like it is...and he's also a prophet! He actually talked about people disinfecting this and that and cooking the shit out of stuff to avoid all kinds of germs...and weakening our immune system as a result. What happened later? Medical science actually PROVED that all the disinfecting and stuff could result in a weakened immune system. Not bad Mr. Carlin...not bad at all.
As much as I like George Carlin, what he said was simply common sense that a lot of people already knew.

OT: George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Dylan Moran, Al Murray, Steve Hughes, Bill Bailey (before Dandelion mind where all he did was whine and whine), Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Ed Byrne, Eddie Izzard, Jim Jefferies, Lewis Black, Dara O'Briain, John Bishop, Jimmy Carr, Robin Williams.

I've got a load more stand up DVDs but these are the only ones i've got near me that are being put on to my PC at the moment

Dead: Carlin and Pryor were both ridiculous, Carlin I probably identified with more and is a bigger cultural icon, at least to the Escapist community, but Pryor was incredible, too.

Alive: Dave Chappelle.

George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Billy Connolly, my absolute favorite top 3. Can watch their shows a hundred times, and still find them funny.

I personally like the prop humor of Carrot top and Jeff Dunham (yes, really), the cynical humor of Dennis Miller, Lewis Black, and the boys of the Blue Coller Comedy tour.

...Okay so I have some weird tastes...

I would like to get into the works of comedians like Richard Pryce, George Carlin and Daniel Tosh... and maybe some oldschool Robin Williams.

EDIT Oh, and if actors count, then I add Ellen Degeneres, The Marx Brothers, The Three Stooges, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert.

Groucho goddamn Marx!

"She gets her good looks from her father; I hear he was a plastic surgeon."

"You have the brain of a four year old child, and I bet he was glad to be rid of it."

"I can just see the two of us living together, you bending over a hot stove...but I can't see the stove."

How could I forget :p? Indeed, I loved the movies from the Marx Brothers, still funny as hell.

Love me some George Carlin, Dara O'Briain, Lee Evans, Ricky Gervais (though he's at his best when with Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchant), Chris Rock, Ed Byrne, Adam Hills, Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey, and more.

Honourable mention goes to the South Park boys, Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Didn't include them on the main list 'cuz they don't do stand-up, but I find their work brilliant.
