The one that comes to mind is from Vanity Fair:

It comes after a chapter which follows many of the main characters as they are caught up in a number of crazy situations in Brussels as the Battle of Waterloo rages miles away, and is followed by an account of the victory of the British and allied victory, then this:

'No more firing was heard at Brussels - the pursuit rolled miles away. Darkness came down on the field and the city; and Amelia was praying for George, who was lying on his face, dead, with a bullet through his heart.'

It's really terse and brutal after so many pages of colourful description, and it hits you like, well like a Frenchman's bullet.

Oh, and the Sopranos:
Tony's death in the final episode. It's just so incredibly shot, with lots of subconscious clues in it. In particular, the way that every time that someone walks in to the diner, we hear the ringer on the door go off, followed by a shot taken from Tony's point of view, seeing what he sees as he looks towards the door. Then the final time, the we hear the ringer, and are expecting Tony's point of view, but instead we get a black, soundless screen, since Tony's point of view no longer exists, since he's been shot dead. It's actually more scary and harrowing than any bloodbath scene could've been, in my opinion, because someday, it'll happen to us too. That's if I've understood it right.

I would have to go with The Queen of the Damned...the book, not the movie. What better way to kill the person who made you a vampire then eating her heart and/or brain?

Can somebody tell me how to do that "Spoiler; click here" thing and how to attach youtube videos?
Spoilers are [ spoiler] *your spoiler* [ /spoiler] (minus the spaces)

And youtube is [ youtube= (url after the =)]

Example:
Take a youtube url:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IGS9qY7xko

Take part after the equal:
8IGS9qY7xko

Attack it to the code:
[ youtube=8IGS9qY7xko]

And it becomes

Roy Batty's death in Blade Runner is pretty iconic. As far as imaginative deaths go, Billy from Tom Clancy's Without Remorse ranks pretty high.
Death by The Bends, induced by repeated shock with a diving depressurization chamber
In Terry Pratchett's Thief of Time several people (sort of people) die from sensory overload. Things like chocolate.

The story of how the Soviets killed nearly all of Poland's officer class in 1940, in a wood called Katyn. I watched it with my dad, and both of us being of Polish descent and having a residual love of the land of our forefathers, we were choking back tears in the last ten minutes at what is possibly the coldest display of mass murder you've ever seen on film. There was no standard Hollywood music to make it all seem noble; Poles were just pulled one by one out of a truck, stood at the edge of a mass grave, and a bullet was pumped into the back of each one's head. The final shot was of dirt being pushed over the dead. Bloody Soviet bastards.

You know what's crazy? I've had...

Nearly every damn characters death scene spoiled for me through the bastard that is google search and some damn idiot thinking it was acceptable to WRITE THEM ALL NEXT TO EACH OTHER...but oh well, they are still good. Before the Battle of Algul Siento right now..
That just sucks, I was lucky in that nothing was spoiled for me so everything was fresh and amazing. Please tell me what you think of the ending as well. It's... well you'll see.
This just happened -

Eddie was shot. It didn't take away the "awwww....shit" factor from what I previously knew. I have to wonder if King really is spoilable?

I don't remember which book it was in, but in The Wheel of Time,
when Rand is learning to use his powers and is set upon by brigands at his campfire. He says "Kneel or be knealt" and then he beheads them all, uses his powers to line them all up, facing him, kneeling.
It's been a few years since I've read it the series, but I'm fairly certain that's how it goes down.

After Húrin is released from Morgoth's prison, he returns to find his children dead, and his wife, Morwen, dying. She lay in his arms as she died before the sunset.

Also, his son Túrin committing suicide by throwing himself upon his sword was great. Actually, there were a lot of good death scenes in that book...

At the very end, when William is hung. Made me so flipping happy.

I don't know why, but I tend to like the romantic suicides best; I have two of them in a video game I'm writing.

Ah yes I remember that bit... that was a shock to be perfectly honest. I didn't expect the series to go in that direction.

Whenever a character dies in Fire Emblem, I always enjoy the little quips.

And then I reset...

Here's the thing though:
You can guess they all die because of the picture on the Seventh Novel.

I had this hunch as well, otherwise they all would have been there.

The statues on the ground look like...
graves...
