Are we seriously arguing about plagiarism here? Didn't all those games just rip-off their settings/characters from D&D? Which ripped them off from Tolkien, who ripped them off from previous mythologies. Who gives a flying fuck if the games are fun? And Starcraft/Warcraft (prior to WoW) are incredibly fun.
Why yes, i don't give an airborne sexual act about those settings being cliched. But the guy i was talking to apparently does.

in Starcraft:

Space Marines = Space Marines
Zerg = Tyranids
Protoss = Eldar

And in Warcraft the similarities with Warhammer are even more ridiculously similar....even going so far as the details of Orcs having Shamans and Dwarves having gyrocopters and tanks....0o
Then it may have something to do with the fact that Starcraft/Warcraft were originally intended to be a licensed works based on Warhammer Fantasy/40k. Blizzard just didn't bother to change the archetypes after Games Workshop backed out of the deal.

As long as a new IP tries to take it into a new direction I really don't mind...but the Blizzard games were just so irritatingly similar going down to the details with the stuff Games Workshop put out.

I personally at least wasn't able to enjoy the games...=/

Valve, by far. They care about their fans a lot more than any other developer, almost all of their games are great, they give almost all of their games lots of post release support and their games have very few balance issues

Valve and Bethesda with the titles (for valve): Half Life 2, Half Life Deathmatch, Counter Strike: Source, DoD: Source, Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal.

Bethesda: Oblivion and the game that was quite good but ruined the entire series... You know the one I'm talking about.

Also, if SEGA had just produced Total War games, I would love them. Sadly, the ever growing t*rd stain that is the sonic series remains a burden on their shoulder. Would their ever be a way for them to leave sonic and focus on TW? - No because they milk sonic and not enough people buy RTS's.

Valve or Bioware.

Half-Life is enough to justify Valve being one, and same with KoTOR.

But the fact that they both consisently release nigh on perfect games is awesome.

For the sheer amount of work they put into a game. Constantly producing unrivaled stories, characters and orgasmically beautiful cinematic cutscenes.

After reading Masters of Doom, my love and respect for id Software went up a lot.

And this:

The best RPG developer in my opinion.

Blizzard.
They released the Diablo series, if the other two IPs weren't such blatant rip-offs I'd like them too. Still reason enough for me.

You mean Starcraft and Warcraft? They're not ripoffs, they're just in the same format as Diablo (Rts). They're actually quite different. They both require more strategy based on armies and such.
No, I mean Starcraft. I preferred it.
