Yes, I'm a gigantic dog nerd and have committed several breed standards to memory but I love animals and particularly dogs, wolves and cats. Since I put a whole lot of free time into researching my next dog (I'd like the next 10 years to be pleasant) I think about this stuff a lot so with out further ado. My two favorite breeds are German Shepherds and Dobermans(not going to bore you with why they shouldn't be called Doberman Pinschers) with the Collie a close second.

I love scary dogs the the dobie and the shepherd are right up there for shear intimidation factor but I love their devotion and their fearlessness. I don't want my dogs to bite anyone by the way but I don't like dogs that have had all the animal, that is to say, aggressive and predatory instincts taken out of them. I also dislike a dog that makes friends with every one it meets without exception. I have size requirements as well, nothing under 40lbs (for me).

I thought you said that you're a gigantic dog. I failed to read the nerd part.

Anyway, I love Labradors, just because... Well, look at the damn thing. You just wanna hug them.
And Pugs. They're cute, with they're wrinkled up faces, and their silly looks.

I love my Australian Shephard. Too bad he has to hump the leg of every single guest that walks in through our front door.

I love Staffs. Violent little things, but so loving. Most of my family have them, but mine died a few months back. :'(

I love mutts. I have two great dogs that are complete mutts. They have funny and quirky behaviors that are completely different from any other dog i've ever seen. Mutts tend to be much smarter, what with the hundreds of years of in-breeding affecting pure-breds.

Though I do love Saint Bernards.

Huskies. I love them so.

They're big, solemn, quiet, loyal, energetic, and so much fun to hug.

Yes huskies...

I'd have to go with a Swiss Shepherd, we just got one and she's 3 months old now. She's all white and fluffy and playful and just looks so cute :p

They are huggable, if dopey and I have a soft spot for pugs.

I like pretty much all dogs breeds, except the breeds like Pit bulls that the owner just bought to feel tough.
Oh and Chihuahuas.
I hate them.

But my absolute favourite breed is the Border Collie.
My reason?

Look at this and tell me you don't love it.

Mutts and jack russel terrorists terriers purely for quirkiness and character of course I disagree with all the in-breeding pure breeds have done to them (look it up its shocking; spaniels suffer from a condition where their head is too small for their brain and bulldogs and completely genetically compramised-pugs are shocking too). Did you know that a JRT trait is that they are neurotic? Funny as hell and it's cute; an example would be the fairly common "rock-hunting" they treat a rock like its a live creature and throw it up in the air and chase it around. They also mostly suffer from a huge napoleon complex and don't realise they are a small dog.

I don't think you understand huskies if you think they're solemn and quiet. They are barkers, howlers, diggers and impish in every way possible. But they are smart, smart smart! There's a saying that if you strap a Golden Retriever to a sled and say, "GEE" he'll turn right. The husky will wait for the break in the trees.

I'm much more of a cat person, but I do like dogs too. I prefer the smaller ones like jack russel terriers and pugs and dachsunds, although my sister has a pit bull/boxer mix who I love.

Cairn Terrier.

Toto? Thats right bitches, right over the rainbow.

Such fun little dogs, great for families and not heavy on food. Loyal, adorable and ever so furry. My own little torpedo of filth is blonde when washed, and you'd be pressed to find a more attractive dog. Easy to train, full of personality and with that brand of doggy idiocy that makes them so lovable. Dear god i love those dogs.

Dont need much space, but flourish in big yards and are easily entertained. So they can be owned by everyone from the dog-show fanatic to the family or even the single bachelor looking for some companionship.

Long story short? Best. Dog. Evar.

Also, they prance. Thats right. Prance.

Well, now it's back to pretending i have a scrap of shame.

Not as an actual point of confict as to which is better, but because I wanted an excuse to show that picture to someone.

But still... No one can defeat the might of the ladder climbing Border Collies!
They climb onto your roof and let gravity (specifically the gravity caused by a falling dog) do the killing for them.
True Ninja dogs if I ever I saw one (which I did)

I suppose it can vary from dog to dog, breed to breed. Every husky/husky type dog I've ever met was as I described.
