I've always preferred the big breeds of dog...

Especially this one, the Irish Wolfhound:

Now, I wish I had something in that picture to put in perspective how massive this dog is, but suffice it to say that it is the tallest breed of dog in the entire world.... I was sitting in a car one day when one of those giant hounds ambled over to my rolled-down window and was at my eye level! It didn't even have to stand on its hind legs and it was massive. This was disconcerting for a few seconds, until the great beast put his head into the car and started licking my eyebrows off.... I love Irish Wolfhounds....... They're absolutely fucking huge, but they're so wonderfully gentle and friendly......

EDIT: Did you know that the Irish Wolfhound single-handedly made the entire wolf population of Ireland extinct?

That Wolfhound looks awesome!
I don't mind admitting that I want to hug it.

Edit:
And Damnit Ultrajoe!
How do you sleep at night knowing not everyone else in the world has the joy of having such a cute dog?
Quite frankly it's unfair.
I spit at you
*spits*

Yeah, they're some of the best breeds to hug; you just get so much dog surface area per hug that it's like hugging 50 little dogs at one time.

EDIT: And border collies are awesome, as well. We have some neighbors back at my home who own a produce store and their two border collies like to lie about on store floor waiting for someone to scratch them behind the ears....Talk about clever marketing, eh?

I have 3 english springer spaniels. They're fun but they're annoying. I really like black flat coated retreivers, and I really want a basset hound.

I'll name him hank.

He has the mailman tree'd

They're nice and mellow

Dammit...hold on

Siberian huskies, they're just fun to play with, but like the other guy said they are way smart, the ones we used to have always liked to devise different was of getting out of their (extremely spacious)cage, and they'll run you to death.

One of my dogs is part husky- she's very well-known around our house for running family members to death.... She's also part coon hound, so her nose is often skimming the ground while she's running....

Huskies. I love them so.They're big, solemn, quiet, loyal, energetic, and so much fun to hug.
Seconded! I also am partial to Malamutes, those and huskies are my two favorite types of dogs. Too bad I am allergic to them (any and all dogs). So I guess Im doomed to being a cat person.

They found like 3 of those running around in the hills south of my hometown last year. They are amazing dogs, too bad they were snapped up from the shelter so fast. oh well, like I can have a dog anyway.(see previous statement)

I have a half lab, half golden retriever, and it is the best dog ever. Loyal, smart, cute, and really energetic, despite being really old, and really fat.

I also have a soft stop for basset hounds,

*sniff* I think I'm starting to tear up.

Irish Wolfhounds are 7' tall on their hind legs. This is tallest recorded of course. And you can't count out Irish guys with guns that thought wolves were satan spawn, and really didn't appreciate them occasionally eating livestock.

Yes, I suppose so... Then again, the boars and wolves (did I mention that the Irish Wolfhounds also wiped out the boars in Ireland?) would've had a much easier time surviving if said wolfhounds were never bred in the first place...

All of this talk of dogs is making me miss mine back at home.....2,000 miles away.....

Rottweiler, Grand danois, berner sennen, German shepherd, Leonberger... rather big dogs.

I also prefer them rather dumb. My dream dog is gigantic, perhaps lazy and not very clever, and I can't wait to move to an apartement where I can keep one.

Mutts, as a rule they are genetically superior, most pure-breeds get bad congenital defects, Golden Retrievers get hip dysplasia, Great Danes have heart problems(most don't live more than 8 years). But I do love Corgi's, they are cute and awesome. I had one named Nellie, she died recently, but she was the best most loyal dog I have ever had, just wish I had taught her to fetch... oh and English Springer Spaniels, they are great family dogs, good with kids and really energetic, good fetching dogs

Oh and I hate any dog small enough to fit in a purse... i call them rat-dogs

Yes, I'm a gigantic dog nerd and have committed several breed standards to memory but I love animals and particularly dogs, wolves and cats. Since I put a whole lot of free time into researching my next dog (I'd like the next 10 years to be pleasant) I think about this stuff a lot so with out further ado. My two favorite breeds are German Shepherds and Dobermans(not going to bore you with why they shouldn't be called Doberman Pinschers) with the Collie a close second.

I love scary dogs the the dobie and the shepherd are right up there for shear intimidation factor but I love their devotion and their fearlessness. I don't want my dogs to bite anyone by the way but I don't like dogs that have had all the animal, that is to say, aggressive and predatory instincts taken out of them. I also dislike a dog that makes friends with every one it meets without exception. I have size requirements as well, nothing under 40lbs (for me).
Rottys and Pit Bulls work to that end too, just get one as a puppy though, no telling how their psyches may be when you get them full grown. but Pit Bulls have earned a lot of ire for really stupid reasons. also i don't find shepherds to be intimidating at all.

I like Brittanies (formerly brittany spaniels) 'cause I have one. Just so you know (because most haven't heard if them) they're about the size of a lab and white with liver spots.
