Recently I noticed that not only that my entire music library was a sausage fest, but that I really liked Alanis Morissette so, what are your favorite female artists- Any genre/time.

My realization was while RootCatz was streaming and was playing her music, specifically "Hand In My Pocket"

Shirley Manson. Garbage (the band she sings for) is awesome, as is she. I would not mind being her.

Kate Bush - such a beautiful, sexy woman and a voice that makes me swoon... she's just a goddess

Her whispering 'mmm yes' is 100 times sexier to me than any Gaga, Rhianna or Beyonce flapping their asses around.

All my favourite bands are fronted by women:

Garbage (Shirley Manson)
Frente! (Angie Hart)
Jack Off Jill (Jessicka Fodera)
Baby Animals (Suze DeMarchi)
Siouxsie and the Banshees (Siouxsie Sioux)
The Sisters of Mercy - wait, no, this is the odd one out. Andrew Eldritch is a *****, though, does that count?

In terms of actual singing, probably Paramore. I might be able to think of another one, but really there aren't too many modern bands fronted by women and I don't really have a favorite female solo artist.

Garbage, Kittie, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, No Doubt, Joan Jett.

I think that's it, I'm sure I will think of more later, but at the moment those.

Alizée, Sarah Brightman, Linda Ronstadt, and Vanessa Hudgens come to mind immediately. For bands that are not exclusively female, but have a prominent female vocalist, I'm a big fan of ABBA, the Mamas & the Papas, Nightwish, and Blackmoore's Night.

Katzenjammer. They're Norwegian and I can't really classify their genre at all. They are absolutely wonderful. Not sure how to embed a video here, but if you are so inclined, look them up on YouTube, specifically the songs "A Bar in Amsterdam", "Tea with Cinnamon", and "Le Pop".

Also, Nightwish when Tarja was still in.

The Dresden Dolls/Amanda Palmer, Rasputina (even though Melora Creager is a terrible singer), Regina Spektor (sic?), The Cranberries, etc.
