Interesting, but I'm not familiar with SCP? What is that? The only gamer/nerd context that acronym is twigging for me is Star Craft...then I don't know what the P might be short for. What fictional verse are you speaking of? Because I know nothing of it, aside from what you posted about that religion of course, which is wonderfully detailed.

SCP is an online wikipedia universe, where people submit articles on creepy/interesting stuff. Typically, in the form of 'Objects' that have been collected and are being 'contained' and kept secret. Think Warehouse 13, only creepy as hell. The more famous ones are things like statues that move and kill when their not being observed (Supposedly the article written for the site predates the Dr. Who episode with similar characters) and an animal that hates everything and is constantly evolving, so it has to be kept in a giant vat of acid, lest it regrow back all its terrifying muscle and murder everyone.

I thought we were just nerding out on Elder Scrolls/Morrowind lore... o. o
Well my personal observation is that all discussion of religion basically leads to the "I am right, and you are wrong, because I say so" -arguments. I guess I can add fictional religions to this list now too. Oh mankind, I sometimes wonder if we ever really stopped living in caves?
Its more one is right or wrong cause Bethesda says so. Its not as though we were discussing the morality of the Tribunal so much, just the facts as described by sources in Morrowind.

I'm more thrown off by your reaction to this. I was personally enjoying discussing the fiction of my favorite game series.

Mercerism from Do Androids Dream is one of the best thought-out ones. Adherents own an "empathy box", allowing them to experience Wilbur Mercer's miserable trek up a hill while stones are thrown at him, and by feeling empathy they become better for it and become part of the community by experiencing what others do too. Mercer himself is, of course, a computer program, but even when people are presented with proof of it, the faith persists.

I've always liked the Pantheon in the Guild Wars series. Dwayna, Kynareth, Grenth, Balthazar, Lyssa and now Kormir.

For every trial, the Builder provides to all, according to their need.
Tools of industry to the righteous, gifts of wrath to the iniquitous.
Exalt thou the Hammer, greatest of the Builder's wonders
For it is thy ally against all sin, both the greed of the thief and the sloth of thine own heart

~Collected Sermons of St. Edgar

Hammerites are where it's at. Love the focus on creation, public works and the style of their cathedrals. After a while, their goofy vocabulary wraps around into likable and I really like the way their scripture sounds. I've tried to replicate that weird poetic feel above.

ALL HAIL LORD SHEOGORATH! Hell, while we're at it, Sheogorath for President!

He'd probably be a far better option than our current ones too.
