Indeed, I am another fan of Muay Thai. Tony Jaa demonstrates several unique and diverse aspects of what can be done. Otherwise, Tae Kwon Do is nice because I like kicking.

For weapons combat, I like most forms of two-sword/dagger styles, and bo staff combat.

For fictional, I like this one martial arts-style from Yu Yu Hakusho that one villain uses called Roshuyoken(spl). You hardly move, you block with arms and hands, and counter with kicks.

Fictional weapon combat, I too like Hitten Mitsurugi Ryu from Ruroni Kenshin, because I'd like to take on multiple opponents like that.

haha. I used to like Muay Thai. THen I learned that an aikido grandmaster can cause serious pain to the source of an opponent's strike (shoulder for punch, hip for kick, etc) by just channeling their energy to the place they are hit. It seems like magic.

I like Krav Maga ( which translate loosely to contact fighting in Hebrew ). Its just so no nonsense and brutally efficient.

Muay Thai, anybody that knows this will break your goddamn face. Krav Maga is a close second though.

But my fictional vote has to go to Gun-Kata.

BJJ is great (I've practiced it myself), but it takes forever to win a fight against somebody who knows anything about Judo, wrestling or JJ. And even if you manage to get your opponent into submission, he's likely to want to fight you again once you let him go, escpecially if he's drunk. Also it can only be used in 1 on 1 fights and makes you much less mobile than standing combat and is pretty damn important in case the the cops show up.
That makes BJJ much less effective as a street-fighting style than kick boxing or Muay Thai in my opinion, but I can count my street fights on my fingers, so I'm not an expert.
My stand up is actually my first and strongest discipline, Ive done free style karate then kick boxing since god had a dog. Ive only got 3 years grappling experience.

The only reason I choked the guy out was because he was a big gorilla of a rugby player and he tried to tackle me to the floor, it would be rude not to at that point. Im glad Ive learned BJJ as he would have seriously hurt me with the size difference. At that point I wasnt letting him go whist he was awake. In the end the bouncers turned up and escorted us both out, they had to carry him. It ruined my night and he got snot/spit all over my shirt.

In the UK we dont do wrestling in high school, BJJ schools are rare and people tend to take boxing over judo. If it comes to grappling Im confident, though stand and bang is my first choice.

This is my only real fight since high school, Im 28 so Ive done well. Normally you can talk your way out or walk away, always the right thing to do. Fighting is normally avoidable.

Krav Maga is clearly the most effective and easy to learn fighting style for the modern world.

Other forms might be more elegant, but this is about defense, not art.

Depends on whether we're talking self defense, one-on-one duel (competition or otherwise), or just doing cool moves. For self defense, it also depends on how much damage one wants to inflict. I have a 2nd degree black belt in a self defense oriented style of JJ, and while I (obviously) like that style, I'll admit that it may not be as effective as for example krav maga or sambo, as in these styles, one doesn't give a rats ass about whether the other guy can walk away or not. The downside to that is, in many countries you can get into trouble if you do more damage than absolutely necessary.

If we're talking duel/competition, I'm going with muay thai + BJJ, and for cool moves its wushu, no question about it.

Shoto style and charge style. Surely you've played Street Fighter.

Sophitia's Athenian style is pretty awesome, but only if we're talking about Soul Calibur II.

Dude, Akido is what Steven Segal uses. It's for laughs only.

It's pretty fantastic.

Aiki-jujitsu. The fact that I can take down my 6' 2'' 20 stone husband must count for something. Niten-ryu if you want to talk weapons- I love the defensive attitude of it.

Make-believe fighting?
Nina Williams' hilarious bastardisation of sambo and aiki-jujitsu.
Yuffie Kisaragi with the dependable oversized shuriken and loose understanding of ninjitsu.

Muay-Thai rope fist and freestyle. If u dunno wat i mean watch film Ong Bak.
Uhh. Shao Lin style is pretty cool too :). Favourite fictional is definately Gun-kata : ) - Equilibrium is a legend. The art of avoiding every likely enemy fire position while simultaneously crackin skulls. Or; even better, slicing faces off.
Id like to learn more bout Krav Maga; sounds good : /

Real: Well, I've studied Tang Soo Do and I'm also practicing aikido, and I must admit that there's something about aikido that I really enjoy.
