I'd say Alien (seeing as I was born in '96) because I love to watch that, and realize how many movies we wouldn't have gotten if Alien didn't come around.
Also the Indiana Jones movies. Star Wars comes to mind as well. I know there is more I just can't think of them :p

As someone born at the tail end of '92, I have a ton to choose from, but the ones that come to mind right now are Alien(s), A Clockwork Orange, Back to the Future trilogy, Silence of the Lambs and maybe Wayne's World as a wild card entry (depending on when that was released)

The Clint Eastwood westerns, i.e., A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good The Bad and The Ugly.
There we go, this is precisely the movies I was intending to write.

Nevertheless, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly still is my favorite movie of all time.

All of Charlie Chaplin's movies and all of the Marx Brothers movies. I am a sucker for Vaudeville. Never liked the Three Stooges though.

Alien

It is such a depressing universe where humanity is completely alone..... apart from the xenomorphs (and now according to Prometheus there are also big white humans, but i like to ignore that bit).

I have others but I cant be bothered naming all of them, Silence of the lambs, Star Wars and Day of the Dead are good examples though.

Have you ever considered watching a silent movie? No, not Silent Movie by Mel Brooks (though you should definitely watch that one as well) - a motion picture made before the introduction of talkies!

Here, have a sample - a complete Harold Lloyd 2-reeler (approx. 20 minutes), courtesy of YouTube!

(The final chase sequence, pitting Lloyd against a legion of KKK-wannabes, is a particular highlight. It starts at 19:15.)

If you enjoyed this, Lloyd made plenty of full-lenght features as well! (Yeah, I know I usually recommend Buster Keaton in this sort of thread, but Lloyd was awesome too - and I don't want to sound like a broken record!)

I'll go older and say one of my favorite movies of all time is Fritz Lang's Metropolis [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0017136/], made in 1927. I was born April 12th, 1990, making this movie at least 73 years older than me and still cooler than most modern movies that I watch today, for real.
Oh yeah, this is a perfect time to acquaint yourself with Metropolis if you haven't done so already - most of the lost footage was recently found, so the latest edition of the movie is very nearly complete!

Seven Samurai is the best fucking movie of all time.
They just don't have acting chops like that anymore.

Bonus points to The Thing, but I think it came out in the mid 80's, while I was born in 83.

~also a fan of King Rat and Moby Dick. Good stuff.

I'd probably go with 'Star Wars' and 'Superman'.

Classics like 'The Birds' have to be mentioned as well.
I get a funny list, because While I loved all three original Star Wars, and they were all made before I was born, my NEXT favorite trilogy was made ALMOST before I can REMEMBER but AFTER I was born. That would be "Back to the Future" which I don't remember seeing the first two, but I DO remember seeing 3 IN THEATERS! I also remember seeing Terminator 2 in a drive through, (No clue which was my first movie, technically) Then, there are all of the greats that SORT OF came out before I was born, because one of the movies was made before I was born, then the rest of the series came afterwards but I didn't see them until way later (Alien Quadrilogy, which I NEVER saw in Theaters, but I did see Resurrection on DVD shortly after it was released).

OP: Good call on the Godfather. I concur.

OT: Plenty of fine films listed thus far, but I haven't seen JAWS on the list yet. I think we're going to need a bigger thread.

Pretty much everything I like, other than video games, are from before my time (born 1996, became aware of world around me by 2004). That means most all of my favourite films are older than me.

So much to choose from... hmmm...

How's about I mention if... ?

So fucked up, so awesome. Not for the faint of heart or easily offended. I decided against posting any trailers of clips considering the content. Just follow the linky, see if your interested.

Hmmm, most of my favorite movies were made before I was born.

Though, my favorite movie of all time has been made somewhat recently(Fantastic Mr. Fox), and there has been some incredibly great movies coming out pretty recently, I also really like the older movies as well.

My most recent exposure is a movie called Time After Time. If anybody is reading this post, go watch that movie. It's pretty awesome!

Anyways, I really like the standards of course like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Gremlins, Who Framed Roger Rabit, Clockwork Orange, Jaws, Young Frankenstein....well, my dad likes to show me a lot of movies. And they've all been pretty awesome.

I guess if there was a movie I felt was the best of all time, I kind of keep wanting to fall back on Back to the Future. I just love that movie so much. Fantastic Mr. Fox is probably my favorite, but Back to the Future is a movie I feel like everybody should see!

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert hands down for me. Its such a great feel good movie and plus seeing Hugo Weaving in a frock never gets old.
