Here's one for all you Escapians out there: what is your foreign film?

Tell us what film in spite of poor dubbing or subtitles had you tearing up like a little girl, laughing your ass off, or made you shout "HELLZ YEAH" at your tv screen.

Well, being British I would say, Apocalypse Now or 2001: A Space Odyssey. Both a must see for fans of American cinema.

Also, as far as I'm aware the English dub is superb for each edition of these two films

I can't remember the name of it, but it was about two surveyors that went to a town that had a hill that was 20 feet away from officially being a mountain, so they started stacking stuff to make it one. I think it was a British film, if that helps.

'Run Lola Run' was pretty good, but I'm going to say 'Brotherhood of the Wolf'.

"La Vie Est Belle"
Well, it's an Italian movie, but I watched the french version - a heartbreaking story of a Jewish father and his teenage son in a concentration camp during WW2.

Cidade De Deus - "City of God"

Actually has nothing really to do with god, it's a brilliant crime/drama, set in the slums of Rio De Janeiro, one of my top 3 favorite movies period, not just favorite foreign films.

Der Untergangen, its a German movie about the last few days of Hitler in his bunker under Berlin, its based on accounts of his secretary, it shows things that happen all over berlin, with all sorts of important members of the German Military and the Nazi party, too bad Mengele had already fled to South America, becuase he could have been in the movie

I think you are referring to "La vita è bella" by Roberto Benigni, an excellent movie.

Absolutely awesome film. I prefer this to the likes of Saving Private Ryan

EDIT: Versus is awesome aswell, although total mindfuck of an ending

Battle Royale - not to say that i don't enjoy the more sophisticated foreign films, but Hollywood would never go for a plot as over-the-top as highschool students battling to the death.

Man Bites Dog, a belgian Black Comedy about a documentary film crew following a serial killer who goes about his trade in a very conversational and jovial manner. It's both hilarious and very very disturbing at the same time.... And of course Black and White.

A little known German film, "Run Lola Run"

The hour and a half movie takes place over the course of 20 minutes.
