I saw both the movie and read the book, it's easily one of my favourite films of all time, but I cant consider it one of my favourite foreign films because I'm Italian.
Considering the dialect they use it should count as a foreign film. Unless of course you're native to that area.

Battle Royale. It's so damn rare though, I can't find it anywhere and Amazon keep failing to deliver it. Plus it's like 20 squid from that site.

Cidade De Deus - "City of God"

Actually has nothing really to do with god, it's a brilliant crime/drama, set in the slums of Rio De Janeiro, one of my top 3 favorite movies period, not just favorite foreign films.
I freakin' loved that movie! I've watched it at least 10 times, though it's not really one of those you can watch over and over again.

These I also liked, though, City of God was far superior.

Also, for anyone who likes really weird stuff check out a French movie called City of the Lost Children.

There's a few foriegn movies I have seen that were okay, Lagaan (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169102/) was okay, except for the fact that it is like 4 hours long.

I know I've seen some other good ones, I just can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

I live in Sweden, so Dawn of the Dead? Lmao.

Other than that, I'll say Kung Fu Hustle.
I completely forgot about Kung Fu Hustle, that was another hysterical, yet slightly moving story.

If anyone has any recommendations of stuff similar to the movies I mentioned, please let me know!!!! (foreign film or not)

Okay, another edit to my post, the movies Hero (also know as Ying Xiong: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0299977/ ) was a great movie as was The House of Flying Daggers (also know as Shi Mian Mai Fu http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385004/ )

Battle Royale - not to say that i don't enjoy the more sophisticated foreign films, but Hollywood would never go for a plot as over-the-top as highschool students battling to the death.
I liked that one as well. Although I was at school the day after I saw it and kepts looking at all my classmates thinking "Could I kill you? Would you kill me?"

...Oh, and by the way; does it still count as murder if they never find the bodies?
That's the beauty of it: you can discuss afterwards how you would react in that situation and end up with a variety of answers.

Had it not been for the subtitles I probably wouldnt of understood half of what everyone was saying.
That is one of the most peculiar characteristics of this fine peninsula of ours, if you got someone from Palermo to speak to someone from Milan it would roughly equate to getting a nigerian to speak to a Norwegian.
Not that surprising though if one considers the history of our nation.

Ichi the Killer was a fun movie, pretty much non-stop gore and torture for two hours. However my favorite would be Audition, which is by the same director, cant remember his name, but the movie was so slow building that about and hour into it i was wondering why this was classified as a horror movie, but rest assured, the last half hour contains some of the most fucked up stuff i've ever seen.

Yeah, and right after I made that post, I decided to buy it off of Ebay, so it's on it's way! Incredibly stoked for it.

Do Del Toro movies count?
It really depends which one of his films you're talking about, cos if it's Pan's Labyrinth or The devils backbone then yes, If you're talking about Hellboy or Blade 2 then no.
Im gonna go with The Orphanage then.

Let the Right One In, just in case the avatar didn't give it away. I'm also a big fan of Pan's Labyrinth.

I doubt I could pick just one. So I won't. I'll pick a few.

Run, Lola, Run
Amelie
Hero
M

And if Love, Actually would be considered British, then that, too, although probably not.

Lilja 4-Ever, 2001 Space Odyssey, The Shining, Solaris, STALKER, The Fountain, Halloween, The Thing, Blade II(I wuv it!), Gremlins 2, Robocop, Batman, Bill and Ted Excellent Adventure.

And many, many more, but those are the ones I can name at the top of my head, and yes, hollywood counts as foreign to me.
