Stalker for its Bullet pyshics and general awesomeness which are second to none, counter strike for its uber realism and half life for the clever map design and puzzles..

Call of Duty UO with the BdG realism mod (run speed reduced, crouch only movement except to sprint, bunny hoppers auto booted, no crosshair, no run and gun, one hit kills and bleed-outs, bandaids but no med kits, no kill cams or tracers, large maps)

Still the best online FPS.

Counter Strike.

Honestly folks, you can't pick a console FPS for best FPS of all time. If I had to pick a favorite console FPS it would be Halo (Original) then Resistance: FoM but games like Quake, UT, ET:QW and just about anything that ever let you use a mouse and keyboard wins.

There are so many older games that rock CoD 4 which should've been mentioned already. To rectify this disgrace . . .

They may be FPSRPG's, but they're still FPS: Deus Ex and System Shock 2, arguably two of the greatest games ever made. You're never getting another like SS2 anyway.

Pure FPS: Serious Sam, the first and second encounters. I've never had so much fun Co-op'ing a game like that. Painkiller was somewhat similar, but much easier by comparison.

Of course someone has to mention Doom for the impact it had on the genre itself. That game was one hell of an accomplishment back in the day.
