So, Very simple. What is your favorite game series, and what is your favorite game from said series.

One of the best dogfighting games out there, and it has some of the best story of any game I have ever played. They are very well designed, and I hope they keep getting made for years to come. As for favorites:

#1- Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War.
Best story by far out of all of them, and it has the most planes out of all of them. The opening shows just how badass this game is:

#2- Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
May get me labelled a heretic by some of the more die-hard fans of the original games, but you know what, STFU. Its a great game and not EVERY game in the series has to be in Strangereal. Even then, its like a Tom Clancy novel turned into a game. Thats just awsome. If they put even HALF of the stuff from this game in the new ones, and go back to Strangereal with new story and breath in it, it will make an already kickass series even more kickass. Proof:

It kind of goes without saying. This game is a classic, and some of the most fun I have in anything. For me, it is a tie between:
Fallout 3-for story and location

Fallout New Vegas-For gameplay, characters, and factions present

And I believe I have just commited an ultimate sin, if internet backdraft is anything to go by. I will agree, most of the newer call of dutys after the original Modern Warfare are getting pretty bland.....except one.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
It is the only Call of Duty that has really held my attention, including the older ones, and I cant wait for Black Ops 2 to come out.

I said the whole company because it is rare that they release a game I dont like. They are well worth the money as they make LONG,cinematic campains that can take up to 80 hours on even the fastest playthroughs. Of course, I wont put EVERY game series I like on here, but the ones that stand out to me are:

Warship Gunner 2
For completely ludicrous boss designs and even more ludicrous player ship designs(<--- limited by deck space. Other than that, you can have 40 20" cannons on your ship if you want.)

Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle
Dont let the aged graphics (this game came out in 2011, btw) and other ammenties fool you. This game is for people who like political and military simulaters, and can at times be even harder than the fabledly hard XCOM.

PTO IV
Exaclty like Nobunaga's Ambition, but swapping Sengoku Japan for World War 2, and swapping playing as the Daiymo of a Japanese clan for the head of one of the 4 major navies (US, Britian, Germany (with some Italian ships), and Japan.

My favorite "series" is most likely Final Fantasy, but I haven't played all of the games in the series YET, so I can't say my favorite....SO INSTEAD.

I'll say the Bioshock series, cause thats a series to most people right? There was a second one, I just never played it, and infinite is going to be a third one.

My favorite game from that series is Bioshock ONE *and only*, the only game I have played in that series....har har.

*I know I said I didn't play the whole Final Fantasy series and refused to pick a favorite until I do play the whole series, then when on to pick Bioshock even though I haven't played Bioshock 2. It works in my mind, so would you kindly except it?

The skyline looks pretty from here.

Favourite game is certainly Persona 4... as for series, I dunno, I feel like I should play more SMT games before I call it my favourite.
There's lots of really fantastic series, but I can't think of which one wins out over any others.

Hands down, my favourite video game, ever. That's right every time I get asked for a favourite game, I'm really tempted to just say LoK, but that's not really one game. And the whole is actually more than the sum of its parts, so it's really hard to choose one game to represent the series as a whole.

If I was forced to pick, though, I'd say either Soul Reaver 2 or Defiance. I feel SR2 has one of the best single plots from the games - yes, if you play just that, you're missing out on SR1 (also, BO1, but that's less relevant), however it's still self-contained enough and has enough references and throwbacks to properly establish general motivations and characterisation. The rest of the story does work well on it's own and is quite engrossing, in fact. Defiance, on the other hand, has more polished and engaging gameplay, however, playing just that, really leaves out some relevant plot information from both SR1 and SR2.

I'd probably go with SR2 here, though.

???
If so, Bloodlines is my favourite game there. Yeah, it's my favourite single game. So, while I do like LoK more, it's the whole package rather than a single game.

However, if you don't consider VtM as series (I'm not quite sure how to classify it myself, to be honest) then don't mind this.
???

OK, I'm torn here. I definitely like HoMM5 more. I'm pretty sure it has the greatest gameplay. However, I'm still playing HoMM3 more. The random map generation in 5 is just so slow (I can comfortably start few games with random maps in H3 in the mean time). Also, another thing that's a minus for HoMM5 is the complexity of the skills - I find I have to pretty frequently refer to the Skillwheel, otherwise I won't get a build I want (also, assuming the RNG allows me).

I'm gonna go with Episode 2, I believe.

I'll go with M&M 7 - it's the one which introduced me to the series and the one I still play the most.

Well, Worms World Party is my fav here. Yeah, it's pretty much Armageddon but the extra few bells and whistles I do prefer.

Persona FUCKING 4. GG Noobs /thread.

Seriously that game is just perfect. Persona 3 was good as well despite my absolute hatred of the main character (what a ****!) but 4 is much better in every single way.

Oh and don't make me explain myself over the P3 MC yet again. I'll go for the Mike Thorton Effect and say "no matter how you play him, he is the ponciest ponce to ever ponce past a poncing parlour"

As for full series i'll go with Ace Attorney. Specifically the third one. The first trilogy dealing with Phoenix's character development and rise to badassery was epic. It spanned over three games and that last case is so brilliant and well handled.

I would go with the Mass Effect games but as we all know, ME3's ending ruined all of our collective lives and left us dazed and confused as to wtf just happened and what should we make of all this?

The ending to ME3 was so... Wrong. It felt physically incorrect even. It was so out of tone with the rest of the game it was just bizzare.

Favorite game series?

Uncharted, with Among Thieves being my favorite

Fallout, with a tie between Fallout 3 for environment and story (shut up, purists, I've played the original games too) and New Vegas for characters, factions, and game mechanics.

Edit: shouldn't this be in gaming discussion?

Favorite game? Well, if we're going by how many times I've beaten it or sheer time invested, Final Fantasy VII, which I'm okay with. Granted, I haven't played it in a loooooong time, but that's only because I've already played it so much. Fantastic game that succeeds on all levels; Gameplay, story, characters, music... even the outdated graphics aren't jarring.

Favorite series? No, it's not Final Fantasy. There are several entries I despise, like VIII and X (and it's sequ[ERROR: SUBJECT DEFINITELY DOES NOT EXIST]). Favorite series would probably be either Halo or Pokémon. Halo is pretty great, and easily my favorite multiplayer game, but Pokémon hasn't ever had a moment where I was like "Eh." Halo has a few of those, but it's still a fantastic series overall. Also, without Halo we'd never have Red Vs Blue, and that's just awful to think about.

You have the Fallout series as number two on your list. For me it is the greatest series of all time. However, on your list you excluded Fo1 and Fo2, presumably because you have never played them. However, as a rabid fan of the Fallout series, one who has played all four major titles in the series, I would list them in this order...

1. Fallout: New Vegas

2. Fallout 2

3. Fallout 1

4. Fallout 3

They were all awesome, but that's the order I feel best reflects their overall quality.
Here's hoping Fallout 4 doesn't suck - am I right?

You are right. Now we just need an official announcement (please be soon, Bethesda. Skyrim is already almost a year old!)

I enjoyed the original fallout games, however, the reason I didn't put them on my list is because I'm not that big of a turn based fan. However, they are great games.

I'd say the classic Sonic the Hedgehog series.

My favorite game of said series is definitely Sonic & Knuckles.

Why? Well aside from it being the first game I ever owned, it lets you play as two different characters with unique abilities and areas from familiar zones. There are also tons of secrets, multiple paths, special stages, Chaos Emeralds to collect, going Super, and two kick-ass final boss fights (though Doomsday Zone is obviously the better of the two).

On top of that, you can connect with the previous Sonic titles to unlock secret features: Blue Spheres with Sonic 1, which is an infinite special zone, Knuckles the Echinda in Sonic 2 with Sonic 2, allowing you to play the game as Knuckles, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles with Sonic 3, not only allowing you to play through one game to the next, but also save your progress, play four different character styles, getting additional story and secrets, and going Hyper.

It was literally DLC before DLC was invented.

Hmm... This is actually a tough question. The first answer that comes to mind would be The Legend of Zelda, with Twilight Princess being my favourite. But that doesn't feel like the 'right' answer. I think it's because, of all genres, RPGs would have to be my uncontested favourite, and the Zelda games don't really encapsulate that well enough. But I've played and loved just about every game in the Zelda series, so I guess, by virtue of that alone, it's good enough to be my answer. At least for now.

Yeah, if you don't dig the old-school-turn-based-isometric RPG thing, than Fo1 and Fo2 are pretty hard to get into. You can certainly still appreciate the atmosphere and writing, though.

Also, I don't think Fallout 4 will be announced for a while yet. It'll probably be released late 2014 on next-gen systems and announced in mid-to-late 2013. Just a guess, though.

Favourite game:persona 4.
Series: Shin Megami Tensie even though I have not played enough of them beside Persona 3/4,Nocturne, Strange Journey and a little bit of both Devil Survivor 2 and Digital Devil Saga.
But it is a close call with the likes of Ace Attorney, Portal and the Souls series when it comes to franchises.

I'd put Fallout 3 at the top, new vegas below that, then Fallout 1 and 2.

Why? Because I prefer the Bethesda approach to the franchise. Also it feels more natural to mix real time action with turn based elements.

A lot of love for Fallout here. I hate it with a passion, simply because I spent my hard-earned (ahem) money on a copy of Fallout 3 and it doesn't work (stupid integrated graphics card...).

I feel a bit embarrassed about my choice, but it's going to be Mass Effect. I've never been more excited about a new game than I was in the build-up to the release of Mass Effect 3. My favourite? It's got to be number 1, if only for Sovereign's speech.

I respect that, I suppose, seeing as all four games are ridiculously good. But still, I've never felt as deep a connection to Fallout 3 as any of the other ones. Probably because it was the first Bethesda role-playing game I ever played, so I was still yet to get the hang of things. Also, it didn't run as well on my PC as I would have liked.

Still a great game, though, and I'd love to go back and play it again now that I have Oblivion and F:NV, and Skyrim under my belt!

Half Life

Mass Effect

Dawn of War (arguably is two separate series)

The first two more than the latter. Though DoW 2 was very good IMO.
