L1, R2, Triangle, are you friggin' kidding me? Shouldn't some of the buttons have a different texture, so I don't actually have to look at the thing?
Im not too sure what you mean...specify your complaint. i use the ps3 controller like an extension of my body.

Sega Megadrive:

The picture holds a thousand memories
I'd have to agree with you. If for me it wasn't this one:

I've got big hands. I'm also a fan of the Dreamcast controller, and the six-button sega controller (better to play zombies ate my neighbors with).

Look at a PS-anything controller side-by-side with a gamecube controller. The 4 main buttons on the PS controller are the same size and feel the same. Nintendo had corrected this years earlier with concave lower buttons on the SNES controller. On the Gamecube, the main action button is in the middle and the other three buttons are shaped directionally around this button, so it's obvious what button your pressing. The PS-anything controllers never addressed this and neither did the X-Box controllers.

Plus, L1 L2 R1 and R4 can take away from the immersion of a game while you're focused on remembering what the Hell button does what the Hell Splinter Cell move. On the gamecube, there's 2 main shoulder buttons and a smaller "Z" pad next to the R button that feels completely different. You're never shuffling your fingers around trying to figure out what button does what.

I've heard arguments that the Gamecube was just pandering to amateurs b/c of its pickupandplay strengths, and my response is that control should never, ever be difficult. Figuring out an enemy's strategy or a dungeon puzzle, that's supposed to be hard. Figuring out where the hell your thumb is in a sea of buttons, that's unneccessary complication.

Fits in my hand perfectly, and comes coupled with an elegant button layout and a very sturdy D-pad. All in all, one of my favorite controllers ever made.

Second place goes to:
If the D-pad was just a little sturdier, this would have beaten out the Dual Shock. As it stands, they are both marvelous in design.

The 360 takes the cake here, it fits perfectly in my massive paws (although the D-pad sucks). Second comes the Gamecube, it used to fit perfectly in my hands, before they grew to their current size. Now even the Dual Shock fits better.

I have to admit I have held many controllers in my time, but 360 reins supreme. It is one of the things that have made me reluctantly warm to the 360.

My hands.

Because using stuff like mouses and keyboards gets difficult with the use of other body parts.

My favorite controller is the Gamecube Wavebird because I've had four of them, with my cord controllers as backup just in case, and they have never needed to be replaced and the batteries get used really slowly. However, my favorite controller of all time, just because, and you'll understand what I mean if you have heard of it, but I love the Nintendo 64 so named "Atomic Controller." Clear purple=Atomic? I don't know, but who cares?

They're aaaaall great controllers for recent generations in my opinion. I use a little bit of everything (Xbox Pad for PC, Wii and PS2), but the Dualshock 2 will forever hold a place in my heart. Not a huge fan of the PS3 iteration's awkwardly curvy R2/L2.

360 is perfectly fine though, and GC is fantastically comfy, although I never liked how much you had to push in the shoulder buttons. Just my two cents.

EDIT: Oh, and Keyboard 'n Mouse for FPS and RTS games.

I like the xbox 360 controller. Honestly, and this is just in my opinion, there has never been a better game controller ever, and I'm not sure how it can actually be improved on. I guess more rumble and less uses up two batteries every five minutes would be nice.

I can't stand the playstation controller. I used to be completely unable to play games on it, but I can actually use it now. My problems with it are the fact that it isn't molded to fit human hands properly, the triggers have no point where there's an abrupt stop if you're pressing them so you never know if you've pushed them in fully, and my biggest complaint, both analog sticks are on the bottom. What the hell is that?
