I am going to have to say Demons Souls/Dark Souls. Amazing games but sadly my friends are all either pansie ass little bitches or dont play games.

Plus I think many of us are a bit spoiled at this point. We have much higher expectations for games than we did decades ago. I think it would be a lot harder to enjoy a mediocre new game now than it would have been to play a truly bad game 20 years ago. Plus, back then people rented games a lot where as now a large majority of gamers own the games they play which implies they are throwing down a lot of cash and expect the game to be up to snuff. If the game doesn't deliver than you're just left with a bad taste in your mouth and no one seems to want to take that risk anymore.

This is quickly becoming a pity party about AAA game development isn't it? I will silence myself before I get rolling :X
People just need to learn to not care about money. They need to stop being such prudes and take a risk once in awhile. After all how much is $60 in the end. I mean its what dinner for two or a night at the bar or five minutes at the strip club. People expect to much from games, get dissapointed and end up disliking a perfectly good game.
And you can always just wait for a game to be cheap used or go on sale on Steam if money is an issue for you. Unfortunately people have shown to be far more critical of things when its their money being spent. See: College Students.

Not to take away from the rest of your point, but the economy is really bad right now and $60 is a lot to some people.

You're the first person I've encountered to share this experience with, so it made the whole post worth it for me.
You're welcome =)

Something I particularly liked about MM7 was the Golem. If you completed the quest with the "evil" head, you can still construct him and make him live in your house, but he'll attack you every time you go home! This happened to me on my first successful playthrough, and I found it hilarious. At first I thought it was a glitch, but then I realized I had made a mistake myself. I felt that the option to finish the quest, but in an improper way, contributed to the realism of the game. It's more life-like to say that sometimes you mess up the jobs you do, rather than either not doing them or doing them perfectly each time.
Hey, I did the same! The first time I played I did put the "wrong" head on it. It doesn't help that the right one requires either Fly or you knowing exactly where it is. And fuck exploring Bracada without Fly - it's evil, especially at lower levels. I remember the first time I did this - I ended up running really fast from some griffins with two guys dead and my cleric unconscious. Finally got to the ship and wanted to get out ASAP but it was the evening, so I had to wait until the morning (and I didn't have enough food to rest and heal). The following day, the friggin' ship wasn't travelling at all, so I had to wait for another day, which made my surviving character (I think it was the rogue) mad. Like literally. Damn, that insanity took me by surprise. "Oh, they aren't travelling, eh? I'll just wait...wait, why did he laugh? WHY IS HE FOAMING AT THE MOUTH?! WHAT IS GOING ON?! JUST LET ME LEAVE!". Yes, this happened before I knew the teleporter was just a few metres away from the ship.

But the first time I finished the golem and he attacked me, I just had to run because I couldn't take him. Later on when I finally could, I didn't - he was just so cute. It was just like having a cat that hisses at you and scratches you. Only it's taller than you, made of metal and throws fireballs but all in all it was the same kind of experience.

I also loved the titans in the game. They are huge. Their boots end roughly at your chest level. It really felt like fighting titans as opposed to just some random tough looking dudes.

The game is so good. No wander I've been replaying it every once in a while ever since.

Pfft they are only more critical of things because it means they can save more money to spend on drugs, beer and hookers.
I should have phrased it better. I was trying to imply that many of them don't try in school because their parents are the ones footing the bill for their education... though your analysis is correct as well.

Any of the Koei "Warriors" games. DW 4, 5, 5E, 6, 6E, SW 2, 2E, and WO 1, 2, and 3.

They just can't get past the fact that it's nothing but mindless hack-n-slash.

Indeed it is, but I've always loved the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story line, so I've always loved the games.

Ah yes THOSE kinds of college students. God dam lazy bastards getting their parents to pay for their school.
I mean my parents paid for me but... I like to think I tried my best and will be putting that education to good use. Who am I kidding? I have a BS in Journalism, may as well pissed away several thousand dollars >.>

This thread pops up from time to time in one form or another and I always have the same example I try to give folks of a great game that was /vastly/ underplayed.

Deathrow for the original Xbox If you haven't played it, and can find a copy for a reasonable price, snag it. Youtube has gameplay videos, and it's one of the most inventive sports/action titles ever published.

My friends and I dont share very similar taste in games really most of them wont touch a game if it isnt a FPS although I do have one friend who loves Zelda so I have been telling him for years how he should play Okami but he never listened.

However a few weeks ago his girlfriend bought it (the wii version unfortunately but never mind) and he is really enjoying it.

Right now I am playing a lot of fighting games and my friends dont play fighting games or if they do play me it dosent last very long because of the difference in our skills and they get bored but I cant blame them the same thing happens to me when I play them at FPS my skills are really rusty now after getting burnt out on them and not really playing many since Halo 2.

Fire Emblem, 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors, Katawa Shoujo. Really most games that are really japanese (since it seems Japan doesn't make much for computers).

Meh, game is meh, are you a salesman or representative of Baldur's gate? Cos mate, you peddle it to everyone.
He peddles it to everyone because it's his favourite game.
It's his favourite game because it's awesome.
Don't like it? Then go away.
He also mentions it in this here topic because although it's his favourite game, none of his friends have played it.
So you see, this person is doing nothing wrong and you should go away, unless you have your own contribution to the thread, which I notice you haven't shared.

OT: Mine is Planescape: Torment. It simply boggles the mind. Some of those guys would dig it so much but they simply won't touch it. It just doesn't happen.
Ok so me and Rookie are actually friends, he lent me a copy of the game and I tried it, I did not take favour to it, and we have this banter because he likes it and I don't the reason I haven't contributed with a game is simply because I have none that my friends haven't played before or heard of, so it would be redundant of me to contribute in that regard.

I really enjoyed the sequel, as well, Might and Magic: The Mandate of Heaven, which seems to have scored higher in it's reviews. I suspect it's reviewer guilt for not giving the previous game a more accurate rating.
Mandate of Heaven was the prequel, which was really fun. The sequel was... errrr, I can do this... No I had to look it up. It was Day of the Destroyer. All three are very good shouts. Also, I don't know when I became the sort of pedantic ass that sees a mistake and needs to correct it. Next I'll be on about semicolons.

OT: Well, the M&M games have been said, so I'll have to just go with stuff I bought off steam or XBLA. Cthulhu Saves the World, would it be worth the price of a brand new mainstream release, probably not. Was it worth the £2 it actually cost, definitely. Yet none of my friends will pick it up.

Also, Timesplitters series. Though I do know a lot of people that did play it, there are still people that haven't. In my dystopian future this will be unnacceptable. Psychonauts also goes in this category.

Oh god the list of games my friends never played because they think they will never play it and end up playing months later "Hey this is a great game." and my response is "what happened to when I told you about that three months ago?" Then insert any stupid excuse.
Not joking, happens to me every time.

So far my friends have yet to play dark souls, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, and Shadow of the colossus.

Though i'm glad I got one of them to play Conflict: Vietnam with me. We will never forget what happened in that game.

I think Might and Magic II, III, IV and V were my key favourites - while i still have no clue how to finish MMII at the end of the game (unscramble the puzzle), i'm the only one amongst my friends to make it there.

Another game that only i got to play and nobody else bothered was Fallout 2. Everyone's played the current ones (3 and New Vegas) but many will find it hard pressed to roll back to playing part 1 and 2! But i love how retro it was back in the day and the humor ... was definitely more appealing than it is these days!

Alas, they won't bother to try and won't bother to appreciate the gems of yesterday ...

There are a couple, please don't make me choose just one:
Katawa Shoujo
Disgaea (any of them)
Atelier (also any of them)
BlazBlue (again)
Skullgirls
...And pretty much anything with an anime art style and/or fits into the JRPG niche. Japanese games aren't very popular around where I live.
