So what are your favorite games you've played from this year? Obviously, this isn't a top list of all the games that came out this year as the year isn't over but I would like to get a sense of what impressed people this year up to this point. I can also count on one hand the games coming out for the rest of the year that have the potential to crack my list.

So here goes, not in any type of order.

- Alien: Isolation
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
- Bravely Default
- Mario Kart 8
- Child of Light
- Hohokum
- Transistor
- Wolfenstein: The New Order
- Dark Souls 2

Wolfenstein: The New Order for its excellent shooting sections and Skyrim for being in the top 10 over the past several years. Alien: Isolation looks interesting, but I don't think I'll spring the cash for it. I'm also looking forward to the new and colourful instalment in the Dead Island series.

My list is pretty darn small so far, tbh. Partly because there are some games I haven't put enough time into yet to come to a full conclusion (Bravely Default, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, Dark Souls II, Divinity: Original Sin, Freedom Planet), partly because there are still games I'm waiting to get (Shadow of Mordor, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma) and partly because I always tend to go back to games released in previous years, ones I have played or not.

So, as of right now I guess my list is something like this -
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Super Smash Bros. 3DS
Transistor
The Wolf Among Us (I'm going to count it, most of the episodes didn't come out until this year)
Age of Wonders III
Mario Kart 8

I could totally expand on my reasons for each, but I'm feeling lazy so unless somebody asks, I'm just going to be one of those people who drops a list and lols their way out of the thread again.

Pft, you guys know nothing of short lists. I have two games I would call my favorites.

Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate!
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Warriors Orochi showed me the glory that is the Warriors series. Just hours of mindless fun. Shadow of Mordor is just one of my favorite time sinks. Solid, sometimes challenging combat, love the nemesis system, and love the stealth. It's my favorite game of the year so far.

List? Lists are so casual how about just one?

Yeah a bit tragic but the only game I could actually call a favourite would be Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Wolfeinstein was good and all but FPS games ain't my thing and i've barely touched anything that wasn't a Visual Novel originally released in the 2000s or a F2P game like League. Shadow of Mordor might be on here but I don't have the money to spare and i'm not into LoTR much. Mechanics look cool though, the Arkham combat is one of the best combat types out there and emulating it isn't a bad idea.

Haven't played anything new this year :p Didn't even play a single 2013 game last year. But Alien: Isolation looks pretty good, after watching about an hour of gameplay.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is definitely one of my favourites for this year so far, it does borrow a few things from assassin's creed but to be honest it feels much better to play, not to mention the great combat system similar to that of the Batman Arkham series.

Divinity: Original Sin is the other game I have really enjoyed, never got to play much of those kind of games.

Can't really think of any others though. I have only bought a handful of games this year and most of them were not released this year. I'll probably be adding Super Smash Bros to this 'list' once I buy that game.

Upon looking back I think Divinity might be the ONLY 2014 game I've played this year. At least off the top of my head.

WTH I game constantly. What am I even playing?

Given that pretty much two games will contest my current game of the year I think this is the perfect time to have this for comparison. By the way those two games are Sunset Overdrive and Bayonetta 2.

Wolfenstein: The New Order didn't need to be as good as it was to be considered a good game as far as I'm concerned. Why did the level design have to be so good? Ditto the writing, atmosphere and design of the game. Unless SO or Bayonetta 2 really blow me away W: TNO is not being defeated. Admittedly, TNO hasn't had anywhere near the amount of competition my last GOTY, Remember Me, had but TNO I liked more for the actual quality of the game.

Strider 2014 was good fun even if I didn't finish it. Thief 2014 was a load of bollocks but oh well, why did I assume that you would at least steal shit in that game? I'm still getting used to Stronghold Crusader 2 but I guess the improved visuals look alright?

Nothing really, I've been playing games from 2013 backwards since most of 2014 wasn't enticing enough for me, I suppose hopefully getting a Wii U before Xmas will give my games like Smash and Bayonetta but that's really it, 2014 has probably been my worst year for gaming so far with 2008/2011 being my better years, 2015 better be mind blowing for me because facing another year of shit will probably make me wonder why I'm even gaming.

oh I suppose I have a few...

Divinity original sin really put a smile on my face, the story wasn't that great but overall I am really enjoying the game and can't wait to finish it and possibly do another playthrough of it, the gameplay is just phenomenal

Wolfenstein the new order was a big surprise for me, from the soundtrack to the story and to the shooting bits, it was pretty impressive with how I am used to dealing with mediocre fps's in singleplayer.

I've only played a bit of middle earth shadow of mordor, but it's shaping up pretty damn nicely, the nemesis system is VERY cool.

Wasteland 2 is rough around the edges, but I am still thoroughly enjoying it, it's nice to see I'm 2/2 for kickstarters that I backed and am enjoying.

This was a good year for my wallet. I've only played a handful of 2014 releases. Just bought Shadow of Mordor and I'm loving it so far, but I've been concentrating mostly on older titles that I didn't have time for, and hidden gems that have eluded me before. For now it's probably Divinity: Original Sin or South Park: The Game (love it so much), but something tells me I'm gonna sink a lot of time in Borderlands the pre-sequel. I just love Borderlands.

I've been doing a ton of Mobile Gaming on my Vita, so my picks are:

-Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment

The Translation is a bit off, but i'm there for the combat and the Floor clearing, not the multiple love interest arc
Although I did go to the effort of maxing out
Sinon

Combat is awesome and has a definite ebb and flow and requires thinking over brainlessly mashing attack

Other than that, most everything Else I've played has been older.

Definitely BF4 post CTE patch.

As someone else said, BF4 has finally come out of Beta and it's actually good. I know, technically a 2013 game.

After that, Wolfenstein: The New Order.

I'd definitely say Dark Souls 2 is my favourite game of this year, followed by Destiny.

While I'd agree that it's not quite as good as the first game, I still put a lot of time into it, and really enjoyed every minute of Drangleic. A few of the boss fights might be regarded as poor, but so was Pinwheel in the first game.

The only things I've played that came out this year are Wolf Among Us and Walking Dead Season 2, which I really love so yeah they are my top picks, there just hasn't been much that interest me enough this year to warrant a buy, I'm rather curious about Transistor so I may pick it up but I've got a huge backlog of games and I haven't even finished Bastion so it'll probably take a while.

In any case I need more of this interact movie kind of game, I really enjoy it, which is why I've been playing Borderlands 2 so I know what the hell is going on when I play Tales from the Borderlands, I know Quantic Dream exists too but I don't think I'd buy a PS3 just for that, specially considering that people seem to think their writing is awful and well Telltale is at least good at writing, eh... For the most part anyway...

Oh wait no, I played Mario Kart 8 with a friend about a week ago and it's Mario Kart and I like it, so I guess that's my 3rd pick, look guys I really need to catch up on my backlog before I spend more money on games I don't even have time to play.

Hearthstone, Transistor, or The Walking Dead Season 2 (Episode 1 did come out in December, the the majority of the game came out this year so I am counting it.). Everything else that I have played (eg Shadow of Mordor) was just okay, but nothing overly special. These are the games that I think are really something special this year, and are certainly contenders for my GotY.

Hearthstone, for the reason that it's the only game from 2014 I have played.

There hasn't been much this year that I've been actively excited for. Stick of Truth is perhaps my favourite game so far, but Transistor, The Wolf Among Us, and Walking Dead S2 have also been good.

Oddworld: New n' Tasty is currently a PS4 exclusive, so I don't know if I'll play it before year's end (PS3 and/or PC soon, plz). Alien: Isolation is in my sights (I watched the first two Alien movies for the first time a few months ago, love 'em, and I'm certainly in the mood), though I'm not a horror person and I don't know if I can justify the spending. Pokemon's Hoenn remakes are coming in a little over a month too, and while I can't justify saying a remaster deserves a place on a list, I'm super excited to play the Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMix. Dark Souls 2 looks ok, but I've only watched an LP and I've never played a Souls game. I hope for the best for Bayonetta 2 though (no WiiU for me, and I can't justify buying a console where it's predecessor barely works in my room).

To be honest, most of my money has been on 2013 games this year. Sooooo many great games I missed from last year. AC Black Flag and Rogue Legacy most notably are amazing (the former is currently sucking away alllll my time right now).

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls has been my favorite so far this year. Made that game actually playable for me. Looking back, I kinda wish I'd played more games this year.
