No, I'm not talking just about super heroes. I mean protagonists of books, movies, video games or whatever (just getting that out of the way).

Personally, my favorite is probably Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities. God, that character is amazing. I ended up sobbing like a baby during the course of the novel because of the guy. I dunno, he's just so different. A breath of fresh air. Not a butt-kicking badass with the emotional diversity of a pea, which is what a lot of protagonists in the media are today (which isn't always bad to be fair).

Anyway, thoughts?

Link, from the Zelda series. Even though he doesn't speak he still portrays courage and an undying will to fight the good fight. I always connected with Link more than any other game character I can think of. I grew up with him, and will always respect him.

Jake Grafton or maybe Craig Lowell. Respectfully from Flight of the Intruder and Brotherhood of War series.

My favorite hero from anything ever is the T-Rex from Jurassic Park. The main characters are just about to become raptor food, then bam Rexy bursts in and saves them. Plus he ate a lawyer, there's no characarter more heroic than him.

As for my favorite protagonist of anything, probably Doctor House. Complex, misanthropic and a genius in his field. Great character that drives a great show.

Solid Motherfucking Snake!

He's just so badass, you can't not love him.

Besides, he's the only guy to ever pull off a mullet. You gotta give him credit for that.

Batman.

He's the stark contrast from what you would expect from a usual hero - he's dark, complex, and in the moral gray.

Raven from the black Company Series. He may not seem to mean well and is not the nicest of people, but he always pulled through for someone he cared about.

Superman. Sorry but I like his stories best so he wins my vote. Not that opinion is some kind of democracy... or is it?
