Was listening to some death metal tracks and enjoyed it somewhat.
Anybody in the community have any suggestions for my next metal listen?
If you want, give a short reason why you like metal.

EDIT: best death metal band I've found so far is Heaven Shall Burn, check it out.

I love Opeth and don't mind a bit of Deathcore (Job, Blood runs black).

I don't listen to it all the time tho, its a sometimes genre

Agalloch, Amesoures, Drudkh, Wolves in the Throne Room, Sculptured, Falls or Rauros, Coldworld, Enslaved, October Tide, Katatonia, Opeth, Bloodbath, Ihsahn.

That's about all the metal that I listen to. I listen to more Post Rock and Shoegaze than anything.

I find that a lot of the more extreme metal acts suffer from Sturgeon's law to a large extent.

Jethro Tull! ha!...

..naw, but actually I'm not sure.. I listen to a lotta metal-influenced stuff but not much Metal Proper. I'd say Goblin Cock, but that's closer to stoner rock. I think. Maybe. I dunno. Genres are weird.

all things considered, I'd prolly have to go with Fantômas.

generally: The Red Chord, Whitechapel, The Melvins, Black Sabbath, or the Dillinger Escape Plan... there's just so much good METAL amidst sooo much bad..

Hell yeah...someone in the last metal thread recommended Protest the Hero, which has some similarly weird guitar work.

Mastodon [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=labytsb3gfI]-I don't know why there are clowns.
Russian Circles [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2-hJtJrXxc]-Postrock/Metal. Excellent live. And recorded.
3 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DVEHbDVpeQ]-Interesting songwriting and a man hitting a crash cymbal with an axe at 1:38
Cynic [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fhVLykF3nU&feature=related]-The proggiest of the prog. Now with screaming.
Firewind [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpwPMY0wY2Y] Cloaks! A fat guy! Greeks with guitars!

And some classics: Amon Amarth [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKtIYdU3uRU]

I'm not bashing your music of choice, but I find every death metal or black metal band to be hilariously bad.

Notable exceptions are Slayer, which I firmly classify as "metal", and pretty much all metal that started pre-1980.
