Dammnit how could I forget to mention the greatest metal band of all time Ten Masked Men, you wouldn't think a death metal cover of Livin La Vida Loca would work but, well, hot DAMN http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boes6osYYU4

It's the drumming that does it for me, insane.

Holy dear sweet science.

Have you people gone insane?

A thread about metal, particularily death and black, and I see...

Trivium?
As I lay Dying?
Pretty much every band mentioned by triggahappyhaza?

My my my. Well, the day metalcore/nu metal gets incorporated to real metal is the day I no longer wish to be associated with it.

So since I wish to stay on topic...

Agalloch
Behemoth
Cryptopsy
Dark Tranquility
Demons & Wizards
My Dying Bride
Necrophagist
Opeth
Suffocation
Tool
Virgin Black

EDIT:
Blind Guardian
Sonata Arctica
Hypocrisy
Novembre
Katatonia (Earlier works = very doom)
Iced Earth
Arch Enemy (Pre-Angela)
Dimmu Borgir
Daath

Sorry if someone said it before, but I didn't see it skimming through the topic. Death [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_(band)] is by far, the best death metal band. (And the only one I listen to)

How could nobody have said this?

I think I saw one person who answered the question for "death metal" and everyone else who answered a mixture between deathcore, metalcore, nu metal, and trendy black metal.

Dying Fetus.
Origin.
Nile.
Suffocation.
Devourment.

Message me for more if you are interested.

Listing and comparing the old Heavy metal with the new "Death" or "Black" metal is almost offensive. kiddies can screech and squawk all they like, just keep it away from me and my classics.

Amon Amarth is my favorite Metal band.

Favorite band in general is Elvenking. It's a weird mix between rock/metal and celtic folk music. I like it a hell of a lot, but it's rather unusual so /shrug.

Amon amarth, Kataklysm, opeth is always good, Kalmah. These are my four favorites and I find COB and LOG to mainstream and boring for my tastes. Oh and if they are too hard you can always start with in flames and the like.

Was listening to some death metal tracks and enjoyed it somewhat.
Anybody in the community have any suggestions for my next metal listen?
If you want, give a short reason why you like metal.

EDIT: best death metal band I've found so far is Heaven Shall Burn, check it out.
HSB is not a Death Metal band. They are a Metalcore band...At least I am fairly certain of the fact. For some other stuff, may I recommend:

- Children of Bodom
- Lamb of God
- Norther
- Bloodbath (their wacken carnage album. don't bother with their other stuff)
- Devildriver
- Amon Amarth
- Unleashed
- Bolt Thrower
- As I Lay Dying
- Dark Tranquility

Why I like metal? Well, my first guess would be because every other genre of music crap, and my reasons are -

A non-metal genre is always one of the following, or several:
- Too slow
- Not intense enough
- Terrible theme (i.e.: Rap and hip-hop, anyone?)
- No talent (hmmm...rap and hip-hop anyone? No?)
- Boring (well...yea, you know what I'm gonna say)
- Bad singing (metal is great because they don't SING, they GROWL!)

And, I'm in a metal band myself.

The guy asks for death/black metal and people give him Metallica and Lordi. Wtf?

Some good death metal bands:
Deicide (Good stuff but can get a little repetitive)
Arsis (Ass kickery in musical form)
Suffocation
Iniquity (Good band, THe BUllet's Breath is a br00tal song)
Necrophagist (So br00tal, yet the solos are some of the most beautiful music you will ever here.)
Carnal Forge
Nile (I would heartily recommend In Their Darkened Shrines its freakin awesome)
Vehemence (not really a fan, but their song Christ, I Fucking Hate You! is one of the best death metal songs I've heard in a long time)
Behemoth (Haven't heard much, but I've liked what I've heard.)
Some good Black Metal bands:

Dimmu Borgir, but only up to Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Thy Serpent
Samael (particularily Ceremony of Opposites)
Burzum
Gorgoroth
Immortal

Some other bands that are neither death nor black metal, but are good nevertheless:

Rhapsody (of Fire) Awesome power metal ballads that show exactly how much ballz Dragonforce sux

Ensiferum (Take Rhapsody and black metal and mash them into one)

Nevermore (Great guitars, great vocals, awesome lyrics)

Iced Earth (Their new stuff shows its age but you can't beat freakin Stormrider)

I'm sure when this thread resurfaces I'll hav emore to add.

In Flames
Cancer Bats
Cradle of Filth
Children of Bodom

As for plain old metal, try:

Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Anthrax
Iron Maiden
Bullet For My Valetine

Children of Bodom, Behemoth, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Mastodon, Meshuggah, God Forbid, August Burns Red, Forever In Terror, Soilwork, Diecast, Rammstein, Sex Machineguns, Early Trivium, Dragonforce, Lamb of God, Symphony X, Dead to Fall, Arch Enemy, Winds of Plague, Chimaira, Dimension Zero, Dethklok
Yes, I am well aware that several of these are "-core" but I really don't know the difference/care.
