I split metal into 3 categories:

1."Public" metal (stuff you can get away with playing out loud)
2."Very" metal (stuff you could get away with playing out loud, if you're lucky)
3."Dangerous" metal (stuff that makes non-metalist ears bleed)

Favourite from each category:
1. Tie between Another Way to Die, by Disturbed, and Drama by Soulidium
2. A Vampires Lament, by Atreyu.
3. Gilded C***, by Cradle of Filth.

To be fair, I'm not sure if Soulidium can be considered metal or heavy rock. Either way, good songs.

So hard to pick one. Almost anything by Dream Theater (except Pull Me Under), especially The Spirit Carries on, Octavarium, Count of Tuscany and Wither. Also Lost to Apathy by Dark Tranquillity, Lake Bodom by Children of Bodom, Trollhammaren by Finntroll, anything by Eluveitie. Can't decide, I love it all \M/

Either:
Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne for the solos,
Tornado of Souls by Megadeth for the guitar work in general,
Maze of Torment or Chapel of Gouls by Morbid Angel,
Disciples of the Watch by Testament for the motherfucking riffs
or Doomsday for the Deceiver by Flotsam & Jetsam.

That's it off the top of my head really, my favourites change very often like most true Metalheads.

Hard, because I tend to listen to my metal by the album. But a great song from a current favourite album would have to be:

<youtube=s6WGNd8QR-U>

'I flew beyond the sun before it was tiiiiime...'

Absolutely cannot wait to see them in the summer :D :D :D

I got tons, i was musically baptized with Marylin Manson at 7th grade, and i love the 90's era, so there you go.

But currently, every Mars Volta songs. Those guys are just pure geniuses!
It's a shame Tom Pridgen got out of the band, one of the best drummer ive ever seen.

Here's a 13 minute song for you. Can't say it's my favorite, but it's one of my favorites... and damn is it long:
I absolutely adore the live version on Live After Death... I always thought it was the best song on that album. The part where it builds up again after the mellow mid section is so epic... Bruce's vocals and Steve's bass work so well together to slowly build up the dynamic and then BAM! Into the solo... so uplifting!

Y'all are n00bs who wouldn't know true metal if it slapped you in the face. This is the greatest metal song of all time:

Hard decision.
I would have to say either this one:
Or this one:

I can't decide. I love them both!
I'd have to agree about the first one. But Price of a Mile would be tied with it.

E:fixed broken spoilertags.
True, Price of Mile used to be my favourite song by Sabaton but it's probably this or Ghost Divison...and maybe Screaming Eagles.

On a side note April 17th and I get to see them live!

I'm not really a hardcore metal fan (In fact I detest death metal) but I like some classic metal, so here yah go.

Judas Priest: Electric Eye (And pretty much every other song from Screaming for Vengeance, Sin for Sin, and Painkiller. Love Judas Priest.)
Blue Oyster Cult: Veteran of the Psychic Wars
Def Leppard: Rock of Ages

Another Stranger Me, by Blind Guardian.
Almost every blind guardian song has been my favourite song at some point.
Same here. That's just one of two that's been a favorite for an unusually long time!

...the other being Time Stands Still. Another Stranger Me I like because, for whatever reason, the music just really does it for me (and the lyrics are awesome). Time Stands Still I like because it's about frackin' Fingolfin vs. Morgoth (and the music is awesome).

Anything by Daisuke Ishiwatari. Black Onslaught, anyone?
Call me old school, but nothing else he's written yet has ever surpassed <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPA3Y-acjb0>Still in the Dark, for me.

Not that there aren't others very close by. Keep the Flag Flying, anyone?

I admit, I haven't been as exposed to the Blazblue soundtrack, yet, but I've been addicted to the Guilty Gear OSTs for a long time.

No contest. Devin is a genius and a gentleman.

The emotion and energy in this song is just phenomenal. Just, perfect beautiful, soulful music that makes me glad to be alive.

I met him 3 weeks ago at his Glasgow gig - dude spent 2 hours signing things for fans. What a legend (P.S he's a huge nerd)
Devin is the man!!

This has been my favorite metal song for a good couple years, soooo good.
