Star Wars. All of them. Fantastic stuff.

Also, a lesser-spotted gem of film soundtracks - The Truman Show has a lovely, lovely score.

Dazed & Confused has an awesome soundtrack. However, Withnail & I wins it for me - god, I love that film.

STAR WARS (the originals)

Easily the best blockbuster soundtrack, how many other soundtracks are so universally known and loved?

Also I really like the soundtrack of Jarhead.

There wasn't really much specially written music but watching the film it was apparent that a huge amount of care had been taken in picking the right track for the moment.

To be honest I didn't notice the sound track while I was watching that, some things cannot be unseen....

Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, or Pirates of the Caribbean. All great.

I've said it before, I will say it again:

Le fabuleux Déstin d'Amélie Poulain (or Amélie as the Americans like to call it.)

Hans Zimmer's Piates of the Caribbean 2, The Dark Knight, and Spirit

Howard Shore's The Lord of the Rings

Vangelis's Alexander and 1492: Conquest of Paradise

John Murphy's 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, and and Sunshine.

Okay, that a lot of favorites; sue me.

I have several. The glam rock aficionado in me loves The Velvet Goldmine soundtrack which features a plethora of new songs that sound like they could have been from the 70s and several favorites that actually are. I also adore the Collateral soundtrack for its mix of rock, jazz, and an edgy score. I pop this one into my car quite often and find it makes for a dramatic drive home from work. And rounding out my top three is the collection of indie favorites from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, a movie with songs seemingly picked specifically for me.
