We're all hipsters here. The entire internet is a good 75% hipsters, with weeaboos, nerds, and creepers either filling in the blanks or being part of the aforementioned hipsters. So, we probably all have a movie we like that we think not many people have heard of or have seen.

I know this is true for the escapist. Lot of contrarians. So I figured everyone would have a favorite "unheard of" movie.

Mine is Castle of Cagliostro.

I'm really surprised at how little attention this movie got. It's an old anime movie or OVA based on the series Lupin III, and it's pretty awesome. It has a great story, good overall feeling of adventure and newness that makes me feel all excited, good dubbing, and it was the first movie ever directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It's got that weird, Pre-80's feeling of adventure a lot of road trip films seemed to have. I can't really explain it, but it is awesome.
Today it's remembered for being Miyazaki's first directing role, having a Lupin III character that seemed very unlike the one in the show, and having this quote on the box by Spielberg who called it "One of the best adventure films of all time."

I think that <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.231661>Snow Angels still counts as an "Obscure" movie. Or have I mentioned it too much for that?

If it doesn't count, I pick <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.264833>Just Peck instead. Both are really moving films. :)

... *thinks*

Oh, Tokyo Godfathers. A really great anime movie about homeless people living in New York, who find a baby and they journey to find its mother. The baby has unusually good luck, so good things seem to happen out of thin air for her, and old relationships of the characters are brought our because of them. It's a pretty fun and touching movie.

I think hipsters are attention whores and weeaboos can't appreciate their own culture. What do I know, though, I'm an internet troll.

I don't know if Let The Right One In got much praise, but I enjoyed it.

That's a tough question seeing as most of my favorite movies are generally popular. I guess I'll go with Fantastic Mr. Fox. I don't know if the internet knows about it, but everyone I know doesn't know about it.

I like it because it's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. The humor is extremely dry though, so it's not for everyone.

Awesome movie, the close ups on the faces were creepy though

I guess, most recently, poultrygeist is my favorite obscure movie. I don't know how to explain it, although it is EXTREMELY profane. I wouldn't recommend watching this after eating.

Last year I discovered a movie called Franklyn that I'd never really heard much of, I don't know if it was big or well received, but I really loved it. It was a bit slow at times, but it built up to a fantastic ending.

Honorable mentions go to the films Defendor and How to Be a Serial Killer for being awesome.

Well it'll be pretty obvious on here, but for me Spirited Away, most people I know have never even heard of it

That movie won an Oscar, far from obscure.

I'm a huge huge David Lynch fan.

If you've got a tolerance for movies that don't make immediate sense, go pick up a copy of

Eraserhead

Blue Velvet

Mullholland Dr.

Inland Empire

A fistful of dynamite by Sergio Leone, most people think that his best one of the second trilogy is Once upon a time in America, but to me this film is special.

Very few people I know have ever seen or heard of Pathfinder... Might not be obscure enough for you, but it was an enjoyable enough action-adventure with vikings vs american indians

are we talking internet obscure or general population obscure?

my respective answers depending are Peter Jackson's "Braindead"/"Dead Alive"

and for general population obscure (at least as far as I understand) "Battle Royale"

honorable mentions go to Mortal Kombat (the 1st movie) think of that what you will but it came out when I was 4 and I watched it a few times when I was little so I probably have that nostalgic filter

and also to "The Machine Girl" from the maker of Battle Royale, not anywhere near as thought-provoking but more bat-sh*t insane and a lot of fun

Play Time. Also Mon Oncle and Les Vacances de M. Hulot/Monsieur Hulot's Holiday. I doubt that many people outside France have heard of them, but they're probably quite popular in Europe, so I don't know if they count.

Considering very few people I know have actually seen "Memento" I'm gonna have to go with it. Early Christopher Nolan FTW
