Remember the point and click Adventure? 2D wonders that required you to stretch your imagination (and your characters pockets in some cases!!). Which ones were/are your favorites? Am I the only one who wishes that some more companies would bring these back? My all time favorites:

1. Monkey Island
2. Loom
3. Sam and Max (the original!)
4. Full Throttle
5. Space Quest

monkey island was top notch.

But for a point and click game that isn't really an adventure as much as an escape, Hapland 1-4 are great and extremely difficult, plus they are free.

Sam and Max, Ace Ventura and Discworld.

Although I couldn't finish the latter - not only I couldn't run it with sound, but I also didn't like the fact I had to basically either play using a walkthrough, or use everything on everything else to continue the game.

The Kings Quest Series
The Space Quest Series
The Police Quest Series (Before they turned into 'SWAT')
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Curse of Monkey Island (They were all good, but the 3rd is my favourite one)

Full Throttle

Phoenix Wright? Broken Sword? Beneath a Steel Sky? Maniac Mansion? There are plenty of great games that haven't yet been mentioned; which one did you have in mind?

I've only played the Art of Theft, are, the other ones different? Point and click games are awesome, but I don't recall any names.

Yes, the others are all point and click adventure games. Most notable is the Chzo Mythos series, in order (playing order, but not chronological):

5 Days a Stranger
7 Days a Skeptic
Trillby's Notes
6 Days a Sacrifice

The first and third games each feature Trillby (of the Art of Theft) as the main protagonist, I heartily (and liverly and lungly) recommend them all.

1. Grim Fandango - I don't see why anyone should dispute this.
2. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
3. Myst IV - Arguably the best in the series.
4. The Longest Journey
5. Culpa Innata

I haven't played any for ages so its still The Longest Journey. Smart humour is very welcome in these kind of games, but incorporated into a touching, original modern fantasy setting it rises above any others.

I haven't played a lot of the classic adventure games yet so my choice isn't that well informed.

The classics are good and important (and mostly free), but it is important to keep an eye on contemporary adventure games, too. In spite of what reviewers tend to say, while shoving perfectly good games off their desk, adventure gaming is not dead - the Longest Journey is a classic and Culpa Innata, deeply flawed and, equally, deeply brilliant, outmatch the oldies in many respects.

Myst. Riven. All the rest.

Prolly The Last Express if I'd ever managed to find a copy.

CI is two years old isn't it? Are there any new adventure games coming out? It seemed like there was a mini revival from 02-06 of the adventure game with Syberia, Dreamfall and Broken Sword games coming out amongst others (I think). What is there now apart from Sam and Max?
