The original Silver version for GBC because Lugia is awesome, I liked the color more than gold, and it was back when Zap Cannon was a TM which was badass move.

crystal/silver/gold I haven't played the heart or soul versions, but it was an awesome treat that for after beating the elite four and Johto's gyms you get a free go at the stronger versions of Kanto's gyms and get to fight Red.

Silver on the GBC. I liked that you got to see Red at the end, and indeed that everyone had sorta "grown up" and continued on with their lives while we were away. There was an overall sad tone from the old cast, like they knew that the energy they'd had in the original series was fading away and that they were being replaced by upstarts (this is really felt with Blue and Team Rocket).

Plus, the new Pokemon were all memorable and clever, with the game still introducing unique Pokemon even at the very end of gameplay. It just had more going on (four legendaries? how about six? oh, and three of them are running around and very challenging to capture.) and really worked to enhance the story (caring for your Pokemon helped them evolve specially, moves gained more depth, breeding was complex, shinies were introduced, etc). It even put in a genuine effort to explain how the world worked prior to technology (ie, apricorns and the less effective berries). ]

There were so many more excellent additions that I would name, but think you get the point.

Sapphire came close to being as good with the contests, but I didn't think it added nearly enough. Newer installments just lack that great spark that the Silver set had, and definitely lack memorable Pokemon.

FireRed was my all-time favourite, until I got Emerald for my birthday back in 2006. I played that game even after Diamond and Peral came out. I played Emerald non-stop, playing for hours even after beating the Elite Four and scouring every inch of the map. I never failed to have fun. When I got SoulSilver, I loved that game just as much and realized that as much as I love Hoenn, I wanted to continue my adventure. So I brought all my Emerald Pokemon to SoulSilver to continue my epic quest. Yes, I really get into Pokemon. :D

Sapphire.

It had it all. And it was the only pokemon game I actually felt like completing. Plus I loved playing with the Acro Bike.

Right now, its black and white, cause it shows progress, and if Nintendo continues on this path, we'll finaly get to hear the people who were there with the original pokemon who are like 20+ and outside the target demographic ***** about how a kids game isnt growing up (dont send me the escapist article, I've seen it and disagree) shut up.

But also I liked the fresh start and the story of N and the cahracters in the game. it was... enjoyable.

though my favorite team was on the orignal Gold (that got stolen with my sapphire damnit), but it had Vaporeon, Typhlosion, Ampharos, Noctowl, Tauros and (I think) either a Sunflora or a haunter, dpending on what I wanted to switch out for. And really I only needed my Ampharos, Vaporeon, and Typhlosion to beat the game and wipe the floor with red by the time I got there. But mostly it was cause my Vaporeon was pretty much arceus, in that it took three thunders 9two crits) from a mewtwo's metronome and still won (though I was severely in the red).

However my favorite hands down will be which ever hand held generation lets Flareon FINALLY HAVE FUCKING FLARE BLITZ or an equally powerful physical fire stab move. Come on gamefreak, its a no brainer, you even made his stats perfect for it. That is trolling.

Heartgold/Soulsilver. I want it noted I haven't played either of them, but gen 2 was my favourite lot of games, HG/SS are just the gen 2 games, with the modern Pokemon polish stuff. So yeah, I want those games...
Otherwise, silver because I like Lugia.

Heartgold/Soulsilver are definitely my #1. It featured my favorite pokemon in it (combination of Gen 1 and 2), and had the tweaks in the battle system that makes it so I can't even go back and play the original games without being annoyed by the older battle system, and the added moves, and double battles, and the battle frontier...

I could go on but that game just had everything I needed from a Pokemon game.

Pokemon Emerald, hands down. The story was by far the best and most interesting, the Pokemon all managed to look cool in spite of their massive numbers, and the Battle Frontier was just generally awesome.

Hmmm its a tough one but i have a tie of 3 i prefer:
1. Blue, it was the first pokemon game i ever played so it has to be there
2. Emerald, my favourite story and some intresting new mechanice
3. white, ok it hasnt got the best pokemon in the series but i like the new machanice and the new battle screens make the battles more intresting than they were before

Sapphire/Ruby was good, the story was kinda cool and it was something new, unconnected to the previous two generations there was quite a lot to do like with the new legendaries.Yet Black/White are pretty sweet, however there wasn't much post-game and the level jump was annoying, at the end of the main game the highest thing you fight is a level 54 pokemon, then when you explore the new area BAM! trainer pokemon are now in their mid 60's.

It use to be before Black and white came out, I would say Pokemon Blue was my favourite but now after much thought, I've decided that Pokemon Black is my favourite.

I love the areas and battle systems.

I actually like the new generation well not all of them.

The soundtrack is one of the best pokemon soundtracks I've ever heard.

I enjoyed the villians and overall plot of the game.

Finally I love some of the npc quotes that were said, especially this one.

"Life is a serious battle and we have to use the tools we are given. It is more important to master the cards in your hand, rather than complain about the ones your opponents were given....let us begin, contests like this are proof that your really living."

(Grimsely of the Elite four, before you begin your fight with him.)

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. I feel that it had a really really good plot, I liked all of the starters, and they were the most innovative of all of the games. Double battles, contests, battle frontier, not too many retarded looking pokemon, and I think everyone has to agree here, FREAKING SWEET LEGENDARIES. Actually, you dont have to agree, that was just me being cocky...
I agree with you. I'm sure most people's favorite game is 1st generation, but for some reason my version of Sapphire kept me entertained for way longer than Blue.

Too bad my sister deleted my save when I was 10-ish pokemon short of a complete pokedex :(

yellow. it was possible to actually complete it, and you could catch all pokemon on one system, rather than trading all the time.
No, you couldn't get Raichu, or the poisonous caterpillar guy, and I think there was one other like chansey or something that wasn't in the game.

OT: Red and Blue because special was one stat, and the missingno glitch made it possible for me to have 99 earthquake TM's.
