So question is this, in any RPG/JRPG, what is your favorite character class/job/speciality? What game is that class from? And most importantly, why that class over any others?

Me, call me sentimental, but my favorite class is a Geomancer with monk skills in Final Fantasy Tactics. You get all the benefits of heavy armor, the self healing of a monk and the ranged earth controlling, status inflecting, mana-free attacks of the Geomancer. It's awesome.

Mine would have to be a Dragoon or a some type of Gauntlet user. Not really a monk, maybe a Martial Artist.

Ive always loved spears and Dragoons and Spears go together like ham and cheese. It's just something I enjoy.

And Matial Artist type classes because I like punching my enemies into submission.

I will usually use some kind of wizard monk. Or a magic swordsman. Why? Because it's a ***** pounding away on a creature with 99% damage resistance against blunt attacks, and dies in about two hits after covering my fists in fire/blasting the thing with lightning. That being said, if possible, I will always go for fire magic. It just seems to make sense for a primarily rage driven berserker. Or if I'm playing a tank/ agility person, I'll choose ice. Really, it's all about resistances v. RP to me.

I love summoners. Especially the kind like Garnet from FF9 or Yuna from FFX who also double as white mages. Especially the kind like Yuna. It lets me summon in a beast for most any situation which acts as a shield.

Other than that, I love druids from WoW for their versatility and utility.

If I had to make an ideal class for me, it would be a sort of mage thief. Use magic less for combat and more for evasion and misdirection. Spells like teleport, levitation, water breathing, illusions, etc.

Wanderer/Demon's Souls

I love melee based class builds because magic and shields are for complete pussies.

Favorite: Rogue archer

Least favorite: Mage

I think I finally figured out why I don't like being a mage. It's because they were "gifted". I like to think of my rogue characters as having lived a rough life and worked their ass off to learn and hone skills. Mages were just given their power. Makes sense, right? Even if there are some oversights in my thinking (magic making making mages a target, danger of being destroyed or ruled by their own power, etc). And warriors are rich boys from the King's army or witless mercenaries whom I enjoy shooting arrows through their knees.

Thief. I like to play as a Thief, I don't play as rogues I play as Thieves. Thieves are the core of the party, traps, locks, backstabs, purse cutting, climbing stuff, selling stuff. buying stuff, mapping, crafting, a Thief is your man... or woman... or halfling, dwarf, elf, elf, dwarf, gnome...

EDIT: AD&D, 3rd edition, taste my THAC0.

Mages, mang. Unlimited cosmic power > all.

Although I do like playing a thief in those rare situations where it's well-implemented.

Not to say you are wrong, but by at least DnD rules, Wizards worked for their power (Elven ones for +100 years or so), while Sorcerers are the "gifted" ones. Not shockingly, the two don't get along well.

I enjoy Paladins as a Melee class, if I prestiege as a Gray Guard. I tend to play "Lawful Good isn't Lawful Nice". And it's fun to have divine reasons to kick peoples asses.

I also enjoy Sorcerers over wizards. Turning them into Dragon Disciples and Elderich Knights is a nice combo, if you are OK with only 2 9th level spells, and no epic ones.

EDIT: And I don't like Druids due to their "Neutral Only" requirement. I tend to play zelots, such as LG and LE, and even CE at times.

Also, I love Monks. One of the best DnD classes, ever.

I did not know that. It's interesting though. Wizards earn my respect, then. I really need to learn something about D&D. At least so that I won't be so overwhelmed the next time I attempt a playthrough of Baldur's Gate.

I wouldn't say I have one but if I actually look back on my games I tend to play alot as a Shield dwarf/ dwarven defender, and thinking further my highest char in Lotro is a dwarf guardian. Also they are all bearless for some reason and I'm glad I wasn't the only one that liked dwarves bearless(see Varric).

Either the tiger(warrior-y type) from Champions of Norath 2, or druid from WoW.

Any style of rogue. I enjoy the sneaking, and the thievery, and the fun dialog options that usually come along with it. I always stay as far away from anything 'warrior' if I can. Running around and smashing heads gets pretty boring after a while. And when the option of race is presented, I will more than likely choose an elven race.
The opposite of this, basically.
Mage and warrior is where I stand, and the rouge class is almost never well implemented as it needs some kind of "1 Hit Wonder" skill to make up for armor.

Well my favorite WoW character was a Hunter, and I've always liked that kind of agile, bow-wielding kind of style (just never been good as a rogue), but in Dragon Age: Origins I loved playing as a Reaver simply because of the de-buffs and just all-around badassery of the name "Reaver"
