After starting up Dawn of War II's expansion Retribution, it gives you a choice of which faction to play out of six. It didn't even take me a second to decide which, I picked the orks of course. Maybe it's just because I like the playstyle (Haven't play a whole lot of skirmish, but every time I choose orks) or maybe because I just think they have the funniest lines.

Now I'm wondering, what are your guys favorite factions in RTS games? Any RTS will do, and maybe an explanation of why would be nice too.

Protoss: The 'pro' team in Starcraft.

Isis: God powers? I don't think so...

Night Elves: Buildings Attack!!!

Teutons: Fully upgraded Paladins do 1 damage to this 120 health unit.

Chosen: 35 food Villagers lol.

Soviets: Mammoth Tanks much?

(Not RTS) Grit: I love indirect attacking units in Advance wars.

In the Red Alert 3? (I'm not sure now...) I liked being Germany on the Allies side. Each countries had their special unit, and Germany had a special tank I believe... can't seem to remember that well In Starcraft, I love Protoss and Terrans equally, but I really didn't like Zerg. I remember when I was playing Starcraft 1 as zerg, (I was really young at the time) I kept clicking on the hatchery thinking, this game must be broken, it won't allow me to make units! Perhaps the fact that the game was in English, and I couldn't speak/write/read English was a major factor in that failure :/

Hmmm...

DoW 1: Before Soulstorm, Tau were such a kick-ass faction, but for sheer lulz, it's gotta be Da Orks
DoW 2: Eldar, hands down, I play like a noob and just go Warp Spyders

I'm sort of ashamed to admit that I've never knowingly played Starcraft... or unknowingly at that.

Anyway, not strictly speaking RTS, but I love the games anyway:

Total War:
Medieval: Byzantines, their base infantry was cheap and cheerful and kataphraktoi are indescribable
Rome: Greek Cities, Spartan hoplites = TD19 and 2HP of pure close combat goodness
Napoleon: Prussia, I get to command Blucher, awesome! 'But why is he only a 3-star?!' Massed Prussian Fusiliers & 12lbers = win.

Rome: Total War: Carthage (because I can't seem to unlock the Selucid Empire). Phalanxes and elephants, WOOO!

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (shut up): Gungans (shut up again). An awesome navy, great mechs, and the ability to create mobile shield generators to make my tank rush nearly indestructable? I'll put up with the voices.

...I've only played two? Geez.

Red Alert 2 Soviets, specifically with the Yuri's Revenge expansion which gave all the vehicles unique voices. The Apocalypse Tank, Tesla Troopers, Kirov Airships, Desolators, Crazy Ivans... so many cool units.

In Dawn of War 2 I love playing Chaos, specifically with the Plague Champion as my leader. You can really dig in with him at the front, using shrines and worshipping cultists to reinforce your units.

I knew I wasn't the only guy who played those games and liked them. I was far too young to play them properly but I liked being the Republic in the expansion, as you could access every single Jedi technology and one or two unique ones as well.

From a modern to slightly futuristic RTS I am of The Brotherhood of NOD.
Future RTS I'm of The Arm (Total Annihilation).

Shogun 2: Ikko Ikki. Rebelling provinces turn to your side? Awesome. And they've got badass monk and ashigaru units too. Nothing like watching 10 units of Ikko Ikki ashigaru just decimate the enemy because you they cost less and there are more of them in a unit (180 to 160, etc.)

The Scrin from Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath.

When you think about it, it's kind of obvious why. :L

EDIT: I am also saddened at the lack of Scrin love in this thread. NOD nor GDI can withstand a full scale invasion. Earth will fall.

Dawn of War: Necrons.

Never have I had more fun than sending wave after wave of my troops after them just so I can send a pair of Monoliths when my troops are finally wiped out.

Victory tastes like zombie robots.
