STAR WARS!!!!

Then you watch it again. Then all 1-6 in a row!

Then Star Trek, I suggest first contact. Next First Men in The Moon. Because it's awesome

finally, you buy Twilight Zone episodes and watch them nonstop!

Alien 1-2 are worth watching.

Serenity Movie is good one too.

For television, I liked Babylon 5 and star trek: TNG the best.

Never watched Firefly, it had a short run and what Serenity is based on.
Fixed ;D

Stargate is a good scifi movi. As are starship troopers and judge dredd. Although, the last two are more action/comedy.
If you want a good scifi horror then i would thoroughly recommend event horizon. Its both awesome and scary

Alien and Aliens. Though Alien is much better. Alien is directed by Riddley Scott the same guy from Blade Runner.
I'll contest that, Aliens is superior I feel. They're completely different films, one being horror the other being balls-to-the-walls action so the comparison is pretty moot. Alien is a damn good horror film, and I would argue that Aliens is the pinnacle of sci-fi action films, rivalled only by T2:Judgement Day and District 9.

Moon I can also highly recommend. And A Scanner Darkly. Keanu Reeves actually delivers a good performance, although that's possibly because the main thurst of Scanner is how he's an emotionally crippled hollow shell of a man.

Dune (2000) a mini series created by John Harrison on the sci-fi channel is well worth a watch.

A couple of great movies that I haven't seen mentioned here are:

Appleseed (3D anime)
Vexille (3D anime)
Sky blue (2D-3D anime)
Idiocracy (underrated comedy)
Minority report (I'm surpised no one else listed this one)
Brazil
The Thing (horror!)
Escape from New York (Snake Plissken!)

Both Star Wars Trilogies

Predator (not Predator II, that was sub-par in my opinion)

Alien, Aliens (definitely not the last two either)

Matrix Trilogy (yes, even the last one, though to a lesser degree)

Fifth Element was great

District 9 was amazing

Terminator, Terminator II: Judgment Day

I quite liked "Event Horizon". "Cube", though I don't think this is technically Sci-Fi.

I've been ninja'ed five times by now, so I shall dig in to my obscure locker and say, (okay, well, it's not obscure but it was surprisingly good) Push. Oh, wait, more obscure movie here... Time bandits. Rather weird, but also totally entertaining.

Alien/Aliens/Predator - For being the definitive badass movie aliens. Fun and highly enjoyable. Plus no movies since have given me the same horrified feeling I had when I saw them for the first time when I was 7. Still trying to find that level of terror.

Terminator 2 - Generally one of the greatest movies made. Fact.

Serenity - Just for bringing new life into the genre for me with a witty and unique dialogue.

Total Recall - 3 breasted hooker. Need I say more? No bit I will anyway, it has a great story which leaves you guessing right till the end. Entertaining to boot.

Others worth a watch:
2001: A Space Odyssey
Pitch Black
Starship troopers
Ghost in the Shell

I loved District 9, Star Wars, liked some of the Star Trek movies, and didn't particularly like 2001.

But the absolute best science fiction movie is, without a doubt, Flash Gordon.

The Star Wars movies are a given, but my favorite science fiction movie would go to Dark City. It is sorta like The Matrix, except that it is more gothicy/steampunk rather then cyberpunk. I have yet to meet another person that has seen this movie, so check it out!
