I loved the Alien series (especially Aliens) as well as Jurrassic Park (the first two anyway) and Terminator (again, first two) Back to the Future and a few others that I can't think of right now.

Also for the record, loved 2009 for all the Science Fiction movies that were given to us, Surrogates, Moon, Avatar and of course District 9.

Well, some of the greats have already been mentioned, so I'll say:
Starship Troopers.
Would you like to know more?
you've beat me to it!

Hahaha nice one !

ok so what that i remember:

Dante 01
La Cité des Enfants Perdus
Strange Days (with Ralph Fiennes)
The Thirteenth Floor (aka Virtual Past in other languages)

others:
Logan's Run
Blade Runner
Avalon
Children of men
Akira
The Truman Show (it's a dystopic movie so yes it's scifi)
Equilibrium
I Robot
Mad Max trilogy
Tron
Total Recall
The fifth element etc...

Good to see some foreign flicks getting onto the list personally loved avalon but that maybe because I was hooked on .hack//sign at the time.
Also if anyone can help me with this one I saw on sbs one day years ago I thank it was called a.li.ce give or take a few full stops

The old doctor who movies are pretty decent for their day but the '96 movie was a bit dodgy with quite a few story errors.

And let us not forget the classical masterpiece the rocky horror picture show

And If I can have some confirmation on this one Is Donnie Darko scifi or not?

The original war of the worlds, not it's sequel and DEFINITELY not the sh*tty tom cruise remake
Finally Both the new and the old day the earth stood still. they are diffferent enough to stand as individual and seperate movies.

Surprised AKIRA has yet to be mentioneed supposed to be one of the classic scifi movies of the anime genre

And If I can have some confirmation on this one Is Donnie Darko scifi or not
Akira is on the list ever since...

I find District 9 has been one of the best movies I've ever seen but anything by James Cameron is a fundamental block for Sci-Fi movies as long as you skip his sea life period (1999-2008)

Plus if you watch them in order you may either see that he copied himself or feel he has lost inspiration as his last one ripped off alot of crap and the one before was an actual historic event.

One last shout out for my friends uncle : if you're into horror watch Cube look for Rennes.
