And the other is kind of rare. It's the theme to the American version of an anime that was about this kid and his sentient ball & chain (complete with awesome 'stache) that had a group of friends fighting a group of baddies on a wierd alien/medieval world.

If anyone can actually find this one, I'll put in a call to the local otaku office and recommend you for promotion.

I'm 99% the anime you mean is MÄR. I know literally nothing about it but your description reminded me I have the first volume of the manga.

I'd look for the song myself but I have no idea what to look for.

I havfe both the original version and the KH version and I think the KH version is better. The original doesn't have that guitar part half way through, while the intro theme does.
