Esben and the Witch, are a relatively new band who released their debut album (Violet Cries) last year. They're a British group, from Brighton, and are basically indie rock and gothic rock, without being goths. Listening to them is kind of like reading an old fairy tale, but the original versions with the sex and horror and gore and all that, instead of the kid-friendly modern ones. The best way to describe them would be
Warpaint mixed with
Florence and the Machine, then given a massively creepy boost. And I can guarantee that although they're rising stars in the British indie circuit, most people won't have heard of them yet.
