Don't know exactly what your friend is in to, but a few of my PS2 favorites that haven't yet been mentioned would be "Shadow Hearts: Covenant" and "Disgaea." SH is mostly for RPGers, but Disgaea is fun for just about anyone. And addictive. Very... very... addictive.
Good point.
Sorry about that.
His favorite games on ps2 are San Andreas (yea, he's played Mercenaries but he IS also thinking about picking up the sequel), Burnout Revenge, and Katamari (we share those as favorites). He also loves the God of War games, Ratchet & Clank, and he's digging God Hand.
If it helps, the games that are inspiring him to save up for a next gen console are Warhawk, Borderlands (as I mentioned before), and Saints Row 2.

You guys are awesome, thanks for all the great suggestions.

I dont remember if it was hyped but Star Wars Battlefront 1 or 2 and Star Wars Bounty Hunter was AWESOME

I also like the godfather 1, Star Wars knights of the old republic 1 and 2 were AMAZING best stop action RPG and best RPG of last gen. Republic Commando was good as well, Tom Clancy series was GREAT, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 was good but not my favorite. Oh and star wars rogue squadron 2

Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Shinobi, Okami, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.

That's all I can remember at the moment

Champions of Norrath.
It had so many things wrong with it, yet it had points which evened it out to an enjoyable mediocre game.

Jak series, obviously.

Sauerbraten sadly doesn't count because it's freeware...

But going by this thread, I WANT TO PLAY BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL

Obscure could be another good one but it always gives me the feeling of referring to something pretentious which can work for modern art paintings (or any other art you only have to observe for several minuets) but I?ve never played a really good game that was also pretentious.

Thanks for the help.
Ironically, one of the best hidden gems is a survival horror called.... *drum roll*

ObsCure

Yes, that's right. And you can play it co-op.

If he has a PS2, get Urban Chaos: Riot Response. It came as a demo when I rented Hitman: Blood Money, and I fell in love with it. Probably the best console FPS of the last generation that I played, underrated as all get out, and it's in a close race for my favorite PS2 game. You play as a police officer against a gang of criminals and vandals called the Burners. Basically guys wearing hockey masks who like shooting people and throwing molotov cocktails. The fun part is that based on the difficulty, and if you decide to kill people, or taser them and arrest them you earn points that unlock new weapons, upgrades, new armor, etc. The riot shield was also interesting, blocks most shots and you can smash people in the face with it, years before CODMW2 did it. The achievements reaching certain goals add a lot to the replay value though, different missions have different criteria, and most of the rewards are useful. Reminded me of GoldenEye.

I liked the first Dark Cloud game, as well as Pikmin and Bloody Roar Primal Fury, and both .hack series for the ps2. The better one was called .hack//G.U. (a set of three games) and the other one had four titles for it's for games starting with .hack//INFECTION and spanning MUTATION, OUTBREAK, and QUARANTINE. the other really (unexpectedly) fun game I loved was Harvest Moon for the Gameboy advanced (I'm playing the older one for the ds now but i consider it a new counsel)

Halo 2...

Ha!

In all seriousness, I really think Tekken 4 didn't get as much recognition as it deserved. Many regard it as one of the worst, yet I find the movements to be a lot more fluid and smooth, and the character set to be the most balanced, despite being a bit small.

I played Dark Cloud on a demo disc from years ago and loved it. It's too obscure though, as I've never seen it in stores. Ever. In around six years.

I'll have to specifically hunt it online...

Brutal legend was great but it gets alot of crap
Under-hyped games from Last Gen.Don't think Brutal Legend counts seeing as it was only released last year.It is a good game though
