Shinobi was a sweet game. I very much liked the whole "kill enemies in rapid succession to make your sword really friggin' powerful" thing. Never got to beat the game (only played it when a friend rented it), but man, it was awesome.
Mega Man X8 is awesome, too. I love the tag-team feature, the boss weapons, and also how the levels themselves are difficult (as opposed to the rest of the series where the only real challenge you got was from fighting the bosses.)
Van Helsing is pretty fun, too, but it's pretty much a poor man's Devil May Cry. I do love exploding crossbow bolts, though. Right near the end of the game, you get a Gatling Gun that you can completely own everything, including the last boss with. And you can choose to keep your weapons when you start a new game. Gives you little incentive to use anything else, but if you love being able to rip everything to shreds with a neverending stream of bullets, then you can't go wrong.
